I like having a mage pawn and I use utilitarian, Challenger and mitigator (primary, secondary, third). Seems to be super helpful when she gets sent back with good comments.
Thank you so much for this guide. Makes this part of the game actually make sense. Now if I can just find decent pawns to rent. 95% of the ones on the server are Guardian inclined.
Thanks so much for this. My mage pawn and the fighter and strider pawns I’ve rented have been great since coming across your vid and using your inclination recommendations.
This is so useful. I was trying to fight my first drake and my pawns were just standing there around me and it would aggro towards me because they're all just standing around me.
@@onyxjohnson3098 my main pawn got changed to challenger as main and mitigator as sub, and I made sure to only hire pawns who had the same, they would all be fighting on their own and taking aggro off of me so I could actually cast spells.
@@DualisticDuelist ok what I can't figure out is out I bought the potions for my pawn gave them to her and she's still guarding me standing behind me I gave her Scathers elixir challenger Utilitarians and Pioneer what am I doing wrong?? Just wanna say that medicant is actually really good for support mages so long as it's secondary or tertiary. Any higher and yeah, they'll heal every booboo. Any lower and they'll let you get to almost dead before even trying to heal you. Utilitarian/challenger/medicant is a good setup for a knowledge support mage with an offensive spell or two Also guardian: only good if you match fighting styles with pawn. With both ranged it means they'll stay near you and attack who you do, for example
omfg i dont know what happened to my pawns but my mage healer was suddenly running up to the cyclops to attack...and if i called her back to me (im a magic archer) she would just run back and forth behind me and not heal us. the other mage with us (non healer) was also running back and forth behind me. as if though they could not reach the gorecyclops in BBI (the first one you meet) i had to run out and sit with my pawn and buy her a new potion. she was driving me nuts. now listening to this i think i understand why she was asking like that. i had been climbing monsters a lot.
Okay guys so I saw that I had a few comments on here however for some reason I cannot view them. If you left a comment on here and I didn't answer send me a private message instead I am trying to determine if this is a TH-cam error or if it is something else.
Guardian is maybe the mostly underated especialy when you are not-melee its very helpful as a mage when you fight against many oppenents you can cast your spells freely, well i use always two knights in my group my main pawn with guardian and mitigator and someone who cant engage the big goes first, i myself i go for the ranged foes first as Assassin
Challenger primary all class. Secondary scatter, utilitarian. Basically all attack no worry heal or pickup items. Rusted weapon are king on rangers and strider pawns.
I'm late 😂😂 but this is helpful. I have my fighter pawn at Guardian and Medicant (Probably.) Like you said, its fun having fighter pawn close and just do team ups all the time but dang, they won't engage. Medicant on a fighter is bad. I didn't realize it until now 😂😂
mine always drifts to learn the one for collecting items mid combat... I don't collect items mid combat, but I often get a bug were I get stuck in combat even when everything is dead. The only fix is changing zones or save loading.
So I'm a mage and I created a fighter pawn. I obviously don't want him doing or learning from me. What do I do? I just want him to tank for me and climb etc..... is there a way to keep him from doing what I do besides constantly feeding him these potions?
They don't necessarily do exactly what you do but they follow tactics. For example if you go after ranged first they will follow suit. If you do large enemies first they will as well. It's harder to judge ai for two very different classes. For example my strider when I was an assassin was easy as she could do everything I could. However a fighter learning from a mage is different in that regard.
As cool as teaching your pawn by example is, it’s also the biggest problem, as you correctly point out. If you want your pawn to act differently then you, then you will have to manage the creep over time as your behavior influences theirs. This means keeping inclination elixirs on hand. You can also use commands to keep pushing up an inclination (though I’m no expert on that). There are some behaviors you can’t use elixirs to manage. For instance, you can train your pawn to use specialty arrows.
I tested it with dinput8.dll hooks, a single elixir will immediately set an inclination to 1000 (the max) while lowering all other which are above 500 (the starting value). It will never move them below 500. It's likely that 500 is a neutral value with everything below it being a negative value actively preventing the inclination's behaviors, because affinity (how much others like you) works similarly. The base value is 500, anything above is like, anything below is dislike.
Great video! I see that you got extra potions of each inclination based upon hierarchy of what you want to achieve (rank wise). Was this overkill as you alluded to in your video, or can you just get one potion of each, drink them in descending succession (i.e. 1 Medicant to place in the lowest spot, followed by 1 Mitigator to be 1 spot higher, etc.)? Thanks in advance!
The reason for the multiple is to actually put distance between the tiers so they don't switch as easily. If you just do 1 of each you only get a small gap between 1st, 2nd and so on.
This is 3 years old so don’t expect a reply. But why does my sorcerer keep trying to cast her longest spells every fight? Goblins don’t need Grand Bolide to kill!
IIRC while read on steam forum, Mage and Sorcerer pawn always use the highest level of their spells. So don't expect they'll use Maelstrom when you already upgrade them to High Maelstrom.
Once you upgrade the pawn’s spell to high/grand, they’ll always use that, never the base version. One excellent TH-camr, Nihil0.0, recommends NOT upgrading pawn spells (except very niche situations). He also recommends giving them just a couple spells, not the full 6. And oftentimes, never upgrade their core skills (focused bolt, magic billow). Restricting them can be very effective in managing how their AI inclinations play out.
As much as i love this game i still think as a game dev myself that this game mechanic was badly implemented just seeing the amount of forums filled with people who don't understand how to use it! A game is meant to be play and if some mechanics make players scratch their head for too long then they don't play and often will lost interest for the game.
Can I play the game with just my main pawn? I want it to be healer because i like sword and shield. Is the game scaling depending on how many pawns you have?
You can easily play with one pawn or even none with a proper setup. The only thing that scales with amount of pawns is experience. You will level quicker with only your main pawn for example.
medicant is good for sorcerers with voidspell, since petrification needs to be cured IMMEDIATELY, and stat debuffs are very common thanks to leapworms.
Matthew Steele hmmm never considered voidspell. However I feel it would be easier to carry a couple cockatrice licors instead. However a valid point that needs to be considered none the less. Thank you.
I could see it being an issue. I let my pawns each carry 2 interventives 2 panacea and 2 secret softener. I carry 2 neer do parts for emergencies. 2 panacea 3 liberating brews and 1 cockatrice liquor. Other than that it is situational. I am around 22 but I can also go to 50 with my sinew and greaves currently. Everyone's setup is different though. Never had a sorcerer pawn that had voidspell equiped so never used voidspell. When I played sorcerer i was just mobile artillery lol.
id say these tips are good but the climbing on scather only really happens if u climb a lot im a mystic knight and i spend most of my time spamming great cannon and hacking at legs more often then climbing on people i say this with a scather/mitigatior pawn
Yea the cool thing is pawns learn based on the player. However scather does promote climbing however if you sit in the back and use magic cannon the pawn is far less likely to climb since you don't. They learn enemy weaknesses and tactics based on you. The inclinations play more of an effect when summoned to another players world I believe. When I was a mystic knight and had a warrior pawn I rarely climbed as well. My warrior followed this suit most of the time. However when I was an assassin with a strider pawn my first move was to climb and my pawn followed suit. The AI learning pattern is a very complex and impressive mechanic. Thanks for watching though. I love the feedback.

Hey Dart, started to play Dogma again, your video was a great help, like you in this game you're pretty much thrown in at the deep end
if your pawn doesnt solely fight by throwing anything small enough to pick up off a cliff you need to rethink your training regimen
