    A lot of people here criticizing how he signs it are clearly unaware of how the voice works. You sing with the voice you have. Trying to make your voice fit in a mold it's not meant for is inviting trouble. I am a spinto tenor myself and can attest how annoying it is if people try to make me sing "their" version of leggerio. My leggerio is their medium volume. Deal with it. And Pavarotti or anyone can sing whatever they want. This was beautiful!

      Totally agree! The obsession with so-called historical authenticity is infuriating. We’d all basically trample one another to hear Pav sing Ferrando if he were still with us. I absolutely love hearing big lyric voices in lighter rep. Have you heard Vickers sing Messiah? It’s absolutely glorious.

    • @mhertenore
      @mhertenore 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Olivier De Ridder i agree! Grew up with the version of the young Alfredo Kraus. More than decade ago, before my 20’s, I can sing it really light and floating. But as the voice matured, the concept was not suitable to my voice. took some time and a really amazing teacher for me to get off that concept of leggero singing. Am happy singing the aria now, moving it, just like how Pava sings it here.

      @@spencerdarby4696 well, there are arias that were composed for a kind of voice specifically for that role. If weren't the case, we would see baritone Nemorinos and contra-alto Violettas
      In this case, his tessitura and colour go well; but his breathing technique and tempo aren't: this piece is so uncomfortably slow that some tenors have to speed up the tempo just to keep going. I prefer this are sang by Francisco Araiza.

    This is my very favourite version of this beautiful aria, and I’ve heard very many, in very many opera houses and on recordings. What a great shame Pavarotti did not sing more of this repertoire. I do greatly appreciate those arie antiche which he did perform in concert and commit to record.

    Contrary to what people in the comments section are saying about the piece. I think that the maestro sang this brilliantly. The again it may be me having good headphones. Jokes aside this is a really difficult piece to even start singing, to sing it with such class and dignity just show us how much of a heck of a bel canto singer he is. Reason being he sings beautifully.

    HDF ! Pavarotti's acoustic color is higher than for example Caruso's. Caruso's is more like an heroic tenor you can see that at the end of Caruso's career, when he toned down his sound to be more an authentic heroic tenor. With Pavarotti's acoustic color it's easier to sing in passaggio !

  • @jhernandez16

    Does anyone know if a singer needs to be amplified for this LARGE hall?

    • @Startsingingnow
      @Startsingingnow 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Opera singers don't use amplification unless they are in open big places. Theaters usually have great acoustics and that with good vocal technique helps the singer to sing without microphones.

    • @jhernandez16
      @jhernandez16 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nevertheless, this theater looks way to big for his voice to carry. For example, the Metropolitan opera house seats 3,800 people and that already is a stretch for professionally trained singers. This looks to seat 10,000+ or more. The reason I asked is because it seems like there are several mics near the Master Pavarotti.

    • @Startsingingnow
      @Startsingingnow 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you saw microphones, (I didn't see any), those are usually used to record in stereo so they can remaster the sound of the video or create CD's for sale. Also when a concert is broadcast live they have to use microphones for that purpose. Now if the singer has microphones in front, is usually to amplify their sound.

    • @TheTamakl
      @TheTamakl 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think this is actually the Met Opera. You can read Lincoln Center recital, and the biggest hall there is the Met Opera. Either way the design is really recognizable.

    On the contrary, I happen to enjoy Pavarotti and Mozart very much, but not together. At least not this Mozart.
    And anyway, if someone had no musical taste, why would they dislike any opera video? They wouldn't even be here. If anything, someone with no musical taste would simply insist this performance is good BECAUSE it's Pavarotti, without allowing objective criticism (like the constant mezzo forte square phrasing that I don't think works for Un'aura amorosa)

      it'obvious that pavarotti is dead, just an hironic direct speech, and it's obvious that verdi is different from puccini. i just meant the similar "melodramatic" way they can be sung. but mozart in my opinion is different. less heavy, more fresh

    Golden tone but musically wooden and shapeless (despite Levin dropping several hints in his sensitive accompaniment), like something to be "got through". Strange almost omission of "un" - but it must be idiomatic Italian. Not sure it is idiomatic Mozart!. But most versions on TH-cam bring us closer to Mozart and Ferrando.

    he sings all the same way, bombastic, relying only on his natural capacity, no feeling, no charm, just through out notes. please go to learn what Mozart is or remain all the time with Nessun dorma. just errible! comercial. Is embarassing

    Totalmente fuera de estilo. Pavarotti tenía una voz hermosa, pero le faltaba el refinamiento y la técnica adecuada para este repertorio.
