Not really guns, but bullying and retaliatory violence yes.
Peacemaker in the original run of Trigun is better for guns, this is more just a broad cycle of violent revenge that probably would have been better represented with a metahuman ability that acted like a gun. Axes, knives, bombs, fire, and vehicular homicides are all about as common in teens but don't seem to get the same reaction. The character writing was still pretty great. This show knows what character motivation is and I still can't get enough.
Personally I get suspicious when the attack against arms in the name of some fictious and unattainable concept of safety starts to include passive systems like level 3 soft armor. Thing can't be swung like a shield and is still easily defeated by law enforcement so why are we outlawing it rather than sowing it into backpacks and jackets? Robbing a lethal instrument of its lethality seems like it should be a no brainer that everyone pro and anti gun would agree on. You wouldn't even know it's present in a backpack. The option should at least be on the table and not outlawed anywhere anyways. This contributes greatly to my pissitivity since I simply can't fathom a reason not to do it. You can make your own level 3 plates at home for $30 to $50. Now those I get since they're hard, but still inexpensive protection and in that case the plates would also work against everything else that isn't phosgene/mustard gas or fire.
It should be as normal as keeping a rescue inhaler, defibrillator, insulin, trauma kit, and fire extinguisher. All those thing are for scary situations that shouldn't happen but do in a broken and chaotic world. 😵‍💫😵‍💫🤯😵

This Episode calls into consideration Everything that could lead up to a School Shooting. Easy access to a Pistol, Bullying without anyone willing to stop it(Student or Teacher), and a Desire for the Conflict to Just End one way or the other.
If Schools just sat down and Watched this, they would learn how to Stop it by REMOVING all the the ways this COULD HAPPEN... if they Prevented Bullying, then no one would have a Reason to Resort to this. Talked with parents who owned Fire arms to teach the children to Respect them, or Sought Councling for the Bullies and their Victims before it got bad enough that the VICTIM didnt care how it ended, as long as it Ended.

Bullying alone doesn't make a school shooter. What makes a school shooter is disenfranchisement. Getting bullied wouldn't be as bad if the teachers/system were willing to stand up for the kids getting bullied and they felt like they had someone on their side or at their back. It's when they feel like everyone is against them, the students, the teachers, their family, that you get a school shooter.

I like how it shows a way a person could get a gun illegally due to irresponsible gun storage by the owner. To get your LTC you have to take a test and it discusses proper storage to keep it out of reach of people who shouldn't have access to it

    Spoiler for the short:
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
Jimmy brings the gun to school to shoot the bully. The bully says sorry and didn't mean to hurt him. The common bully response (other than blaming the victim).
His two friends convince him to not shoot. And Jimmy backs away and puts the gun down. Then two of the bullies tried to jump and tackle Jimmy. The gun discharges and hits his friend. Jimmy begins to cry and scrunch into a ball.
    Lessons.
    1. Don't bully people.
    2. Don't ever surprise a person that's holding a gun.
    3. If you want to stop a person with a gun, grab the gun (or the hand holding it) and point it to somewhere nobody is. (Non-lethal).
    4. Don't bully a person. Please.

also dont let ur head get to close to the gun, ppl at shooting ranges where hearing protection for a reason. u get a gun right beside ur ear and it shoots ur likely to lose ur hearing for a while. might even start bleeding from that ear. tho ik this from tv and mayb the bleeding is exaggerated a loud enough sound will cause ruptured bleeding and permanent hearing loss.

Should have had one of the metahumans use a telekinetic power to the same effect to have a broader message since axes, knives, blunt instruments, poison, bombs, fire, and even hands and feet are all still used today to take lives in revenge of past hurt and in many instances to a more horrific extent.
Well done for tackling the bullying issue, but the anti-2A thing makes no sense for a world where super powered rampages and alien invasions happen every other week. If anything the dakka available to the average citizen should be on the borderline ridiculous. James Madison said you can have 10 to 40 cannons (technically as many as you can afford and fit) with an army of privateers to man them. Thomas Jefferson loved the .46 cal repeating Giradoni rifle with a tube magazine that held 22 lead balls so much, that he'd hand them out to potential enemies and sovereign peoples occupying the same territory as the union for the sake of fostering mutually beneficial relations (debate the rest of his character all day, but he did this too so good luck with any box) through the Lewis and Clarke expedition.
Frankly, if they wouldn't agree that it might have gone too far, then you're still basically defenseless during a braniac invasion while the heroes are taking on the big bad directly.
Makes more sense to address retalitory violence in general, and the writers and source material absolutely could have done this in an amazing way.
Used to love this episode, but once I wised up it really doesn't hold a candle to the Trigun Episode Peacemaker. Realized my crippled butt is at the mercy of any 3 young men or person with a rock, and that when seconds count for survival help is only minutes away and after looking through the bloodiest century in human history, the last one, where more civilians were tortured and murdered by their governments than had ever been lost in war before I've realized just how correct the founding fathers and JESUS were. You need to keep the machaira on hand and be responsible for your own safety as well as that of your family and community when no one else is around.
I'd personally draw the line before rhomphaia, but I consider that modern classification to be something to threaten a tank with enough sustained fire, so we're probably perfect on stopping at 50 bmg and stopping rifles, but if you want to be safe battle rifles might be the real stopping point if we're going to use level 4 plates as the modern equivalent of a reinforced 1st century Roman helmet rather than a tank, which is probably fair, and at that caliber range full auto and burst are more detrimental than anything.
That's my personal understanding and drawn conclusions after witnessing a lot of innocents being betrayed anyways 😅
Hate for anything uses what's available or even drives to make something new to inflict suffering on others, and sometimes in the guise of justice

When a gun is involved you know it's never about the bully. That's why I hate gun episodes. Because the bully was the reason for all of this and they did nothing to punish him. When someone gets pushed too far that person is always blamed for it. The whole "you didn't know that kid" bullshit comes up. I don't have to know someone to see a man that was left with other no options. When people want to be left alone it's a lot safer to just give'em what they want.
