    No roots, boulders or old irrigation pipe. Nice Job!

    I didn't even mix my concrete I put it in the ground dry and let nature harden it. I did this about 10 years ago and my fence is still standing strong.

      fate7623 , We usually dig the hole put the post in then dump a bag of post haste and a bucket of water.
      Then fill it in
      We’ve done that with heavy 6x8 posts for heavy wooden city signs and they stay up for decades.

      Yup depends on the soil. It should work just fine

    Two 80 pounds bags of concrete is a ridiculous amount of concrete for one 5”X5” fence post.

    Ryan, it's not necessary to use a sonotube for this application. The entire footing will be above the frost line in most climates where heaving is a problem so having a smooth column won't really make a difference.

    I would pour the concrete first in the hole then put the pole in but do one at a time. The concrete will definitely be inside of Pole.

      Your still gonna need the post diggers to pull out the excessive dirt so it's not a piece of junk fyi

    Utility lines are marked with many colors, but not white. Make sure to use WHITE paint to mark for fence posts.

      What’s the point of having a fence if it’s gonna be 3 feet above ground? It defeats the whole purpose of having a fence.

      How does setting a plastic post in concrete work? Shouldn’t it be steel post than the plastic post?

    • @davidmatute7830
      @davidmatute7830 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@surgefiggy7571 you can purchase aluminum inserts in post to make them sturdier but that's an extra $60-$90 a post but most vinly post can be set with no inserts and concrete adheres to the post no issues at all

    • @anthonyguilianoii8836
      @anthonyguilianoii8836 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@surgefiggy7571 The plastic holds up quite well. The metal insert is mainly used for a gate attachment. The metal slips inside of the plastic post so the fence looks the same but in reality it is much stronger.

    One thing they are doing wrong, is you never poor concrete into a hole without the use of a sonotube. Because if you just pour concrete into a hole, all that ruff surface area on the concrete allows the earth to move the pour. Therefor in time your pour will lift out of the earth due to freezing.

    • @edbtzkhud
      @edbtzkhud 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ryan Smith that’s good advice but if the standard depth of each post is 24-30”, you’re gonna do a lot of cutting to fit. Not only that, you’re gonna have a heard time filling the tube with the post inside of it considering the right fit.

    My neighbor had one of your fences installed recently. The contractor did NOT follow your guidelines! Very few of the posts reach 3!0". The cement was dry poured so they could install the entire fence in 1-1/2 days (approx 160 LF of fence along 3 elevations!).. One of the 5" gate posts only reached a depth of 11".!!!!! Which happened to be mine as i wished to have the area between houses look the same. Only 11" down and a dry pour ? Are you kidding me? For a 4' x 6' gate? I'm a contractor and I plan on holding these people to the same standards I'm held to!

      Robert, I just watched a video by Home Depot in which they dry pour. I am thinking about installing a fence myself. I am new to this. Any recommendations? Why are you against the dry pour?

    • @edbtzkhud
      @edbtzkhud 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Dustin Deweerd there’s nothing wrong with a dry pour. Matter of fact it’s cleaner and easier to level. This guy you’re replying to is just showing off his contractor skills. It’s people like him that make people like me and you put up our own fence.
