I think it's a process of involving both parts of the brain, patterns, colors, emotions and being able to tell a story with the image. This is not easy, if you not constantly practice it, if you don't do this, often you fall back into the pattern stage. In my case its the lack of time that make me rush a picture and also a lack of knowing the deviations in the camera and lens combination. I you are not able to make good photoghraps were you live, then its no use to travel to fantastic places, the pictures will not be better.
