12"x12" Background from 5"x7" Gel plate

- I wanted to prove to myself that I could create a 12"x12" background using a 5"x7" gel plate, which I did, then I had the idea that I should doodle on it.
The results were okay however the doodle process was not without its issues.
This video was originally 1.48hrs long so I've heavily edited it taking out any unnecessary footage, I even sped up one section which everyone knows I don't like to do.
I hope the end result is helpful for those with a small gel plate or are going to doddle for the first time on video.
Happy Crafting

I really appreciate videos like this, where you go out of your comfort zone to try something new. And especially because we are so similar in having anxiety over it " not being " perfect, but loving the imperfect look all at the same time.❤
Thank you
“OMG. I doodled.”
OMG. I love the result.
Lol…….thank you
You are one of the only artists that can make even clean up sheets look fabulous
Lol….thank you Barbara.
That's it!!! That is exactly right when you said "you're not caring what happens on the page". I think you've got it!!!
Thanks so much 😊
I’m almost 60 and I remember when I was in middle school learning how to do this type of art. I always wanted to do it again. Now I can learn what to buy. And start crafting again in this way.
Have fun
Excellent! Your doodling is fantastic! The more you do it the more relaxed you will become. If your work becomes perfect it will no longer be doodling. It is the imperfections that make it perfect! "I don't want perfection, I just don't want my art to annoy me" ~Jane Davenport ❤
Thank you so much!
I believe this art needs to hang up in your studio. It is beautiful and will remind you of what you can accomplish even when so very uncomfortable. Proud of you Ceri! Awesomeness ❤
Thank you, I’m considering glueing it into my doodling art journal.
We are our own worst critics. Ceri it is awesome. I loved it. Imperfect is the goal. Send your OCD on a vacation and have a blast. The song from frozen let it go comes to mind. Lol
Oh I constantly sing that to myself.
Ceri, thank you for setting an example and stepping out of your comfort zone. You did a great job so don't beat yourself up. You gave me courage to try more of what I want to do with my "art". Thank you❤
Have fun with your creativity.
Ceri this is fantastic! I’ve never seen someone do that with a gel plate where you make straight edge blocks of color! I need to dust off my gel plates and make some papers❤️ Thank you for sharing this with us!
Thank you Nicole.
Honestly I was thinking what a bunch of hodge podge wild looking junk. But wow! You won me over with the final product! Thanks for doodling! ❤
You are so welcome!
For somebody who can't doodle, you did a great job. TFS
Thank you so much!
I haven’t watched it yet and I’m already happy. Ceri the Crafter is just what I need with my dinner tonight,
Fabulous.
My goodness Ceri, that is stunning. perfection is in the eye of the beholder. To me what you have done is perfect. Thank you for all your work
Thank you so much!
Don’t be so hard on yourself, this is wonderful! We’re our own worst critic - tell that inner voice to be quiet! ☺️
I’m trying
@@CeriGriffiths 🥰
This turned out great. I especially like the different styles of leaves. You make me want to dig my acrylics out!
How wonderful, I love color. Hang it on your wall so you can see it often then one day it will tell you what it wants to be.
Exactly Nancy
20th Century Piet Mondrian meets 21st Century doodle technique! Success!!!
Lol……thank you Lorraine
I LOVE it. I am a doodler and didn't cringe once! Now I am inspired to do the jelly plate part with it! Now YOU can cringe....
Lol…..never going to cringe at someone being creative.
I love this! You’re way too hard on yourself, this turned out fantastic. And yes, none of us were born able to do many things until we first tried, and then practiced. This was also a good reminder for me to try more things like this. I don’t have a steady hand for precise drawing but I need to get more comfortable doodling and embracing however it turns out, and you’ve inspired me!
Have fun creating.
Ceri, your doodling is amazing! I know how hard it is when you have OCD, but the whole point of doodling is that it ISN'T perfect! Well done, you,! X
Thank you I need to help reminding myself of that Anne.
Fantastic job! Looks great! Really like the gold - I need to get me some gold.
Just have fun and relax doodling.
If it starts to get to you walk away for a bit or a few days and if you still don't like it - collage can come to the rescue.
Thank you for sharing.
Thank you! Cheers!
Now that is a properly doodled background, Ceri. Bravo!
Thank you
Red and gold are perfect together
I love the colors and style of this cover. Wow, so fun and pretty and colorful. Thanks for all this inspiration. The white really adds a lot. I love your finished flowers. Very pretty.
Thank you so much!
Love when you this Ceri, it calms me down, I don't think you are aware how talented you are, love that background, take care.
Thank you so much! Nicky.
I think you have done a fantastic job Ceri. You certainly know how to make it tough on yourself by choosing such a large surface to doodle on. Fellow doodlers have said they often walk away from their project to have a break or to get on with other things and it can take them several sittings to complete. Doing this on camera must of been so nerve wracking for you and hopefully you are a lot more relaxed without us watching on. You are brave enough to step out of your comfort zone and the end results are amazing. Well done Ceri.
Thank you Anita
I have watched several of your videos and am always inspired to make things but never actually do! I have discovered that just how creating art helps your anxiety, even though I don't have anxiety issues, just listening to you is calming. Maybe it's the positivity you exude. This isn't always great at 3 am on a work night but can't help watching an hour plus video of you showcasing an ocean canvas I will never attempt but there's just something about you I enjoy. At any rate, I'm commenting on this video because I took the plunge on doodling because of you and have found I enjoyed it a lot even if I'm not great at it (yet). I also purchased gel plates even though I never had an interest in it before. You make it look like so much fun! Lastly and more excitedly, I purchased some of your products from PM and CAN'T wait to get them! Thank you for your videos. Even if I never make anything, you're a joy to watch! ❤❤❤
Thank you so much, enjoy your new found creativity
Ceri, I heard Mariah say how proud she was of you for this video! That warmed my heart because I thought your 12x12 looked fantastic but the way you overcame your insecurities about doodling with an audience, well, that was stunning. Your result was so beautiful, you are a great talent in so many ways and now you’ve added top doodler to them. Congratulations, it was a wonderful video.
Thank you, I feel I’ve a long way to go yet but I’ve started my doodling journey and with the encouragement I’ve received it won’t seem so daunting in the future. Thank you again for your lovely comment.
You are such a fantastic teacher and a superb sharer! ❤ Thank you Ceri for another lovely video!
You are so welcome!
Congratulations Ceri, you did a great job, and sharing your thoughts the way you have is likely to be very encouraging for viewers with low confidence.
In my judgement, wonky circles are far more interesting than perfect circles - especially when doodling. Don't bother replying to this comment, as I am highly unlikely to look back at it. ❤
Oh, Ceri, your 12 x 12 is FABULOUS!!!!!!!! Well done!!!!!!
Thanks so much! 😊 Jamie.
Congratulations. I struggle with OCD and perfection so good on you for having a go! I love it.
Thank you Karen
It came out great. And kudos to you for making a video doing something you are not comfortable with. It is incredibly brave. And I thoroughly enjoyed watching you doodle.
Thank you so much!
As stressed as you may have felt, you did a fantastic job! There is nothing wrong with your brain or the way you are. None of us is perfect or will ever be, but you are an example to us all to keep stretching our comfort zones and turn our apprehension into motivation.
Well done!
Thank you so much! Lydia
I love this! I think you did an excellent job, especially for your first time! I love the vibrancy of the colors. Can't wait to see more of your doodles.
Thank you so much!!
I just discovered you Ceri and I am thoroughly enjoying you! I have not been into your type of art but I’m beginning to think, why not? I’ve also started using a gelli plate and so you have been VERY informative on this topic, You are so pleasant and enjoyable to listen too! Being originally from the western suburbs of Chicago, your accent and use and description of things I find so delightful! You are definitely been an inspiration for me!!!!
Ceri, you are an overcomer! You are also a confidence builder. ❤ I love how this turned out! Kudos to you for forging ahead despite being unsure of the result. 🎉
Thank you so much, I’m going to keep going as I feel I’ll only get better through practice.
You are always an inspiration Ceri but especially when you are willing to share your adventures in going out of your comfort zone -- how you make art is *utterly* *unique* probably precisely because of the ways in which you are challenged by the process and you are an encouragement to us more than you know ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Thank you so much!
I thought your work had a very Mondrian look to it - then you added your very own special touch to it!
Thank you Julie
Just seeing your videos. I think this video really will help people who are just starting doodling, especially in a mixed media. As Melinda Barlow says, "Thede are n I mistakes in Zentangle."
Looks great! I didn’t know you could clean a gel plate with tissue. Brilliant!
I use water resistant tissue for repetitive pulls but I’ve not done long pulls with gift wrap tissue, for me gift wrap tissue is for quick pulls.
You are a wild crazy guy! How cool is that! 😂 amazing you haven’t been doodling for long. You have a gift. Thank you for showing us it is possible. 😊
Thank you so much 😀
I think you did a great job! I enjoyed watching the process, and the final result is very pleasing to the eyes.
Thank you so much!
all your lines are perfect! along the box edges, around the flower petals, defining the leaves, because they were drawn by someone we love!! we want, the world wants Cari lines, and you are the only source for them!! yay! they"re perfect!!! : D
Thank you so much! Judith
Ceri, this was a great video, I learned so much and enjoyed watching you create. Thank you.
Blessings

Ceri, your doodling is wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing ❤❤❤
You are so welcome!
This was great! I loved seeing the entire transitions to the final result. It looks fabulous. Keep going with it, plan the next one...practice makes perfect! Great job.
Thank you! Will do!
Beautiful!
Ceri, Thank you for being so open about your anxiety and art. You and the results of all of your efforts warm my heart! You are an inspiration in many ways!
Thank you that’s so kind of you to say so.
I think it came out quite well. The doodles are just great, not to worry about that. I would frame 🖼️ it for a wall if it were mine ❤😊🌼
Thanks so much! 😊
Stunning. TFS
Thank you! 😊
I love it! Reminds me of a Victorian crazy quilt!❤️
I can see that
What a great outcome. That is fantastic art work. Embrace your talent!
Thank you, I will
I love it. I think i am inspired.
Fabulous
Ceri! Another wonderful piece of art!!! I will be trying this on my Sunday morning craft and chat!!!
Ceri I think you are being too hard on yourself. I think you did a great job and it is your style and no one else’s. If someone is critical they should be ashamed. I 👏👏👏👏👏 you for being so brave and doodling on video. Vicky in FL
Thank you Vicky.
Absolutely beautiful!
Thank you so much!
Congrats... you did it! 🎉🎉🎉 I love it all 😍 I find when outlining circles that if I go around them at least twice I like the wonkyness so much more. ❤❤❤
Great idea Melissa, funny that I do that with ephemera but never thought of doing it with doodling.
It looks great!
Thank you
This looks amazing Ceri. I love what you do. Thank you.

You are so welcome!
Absolutely gorgeous, Ceri!!
Thank you so much!
If you put a piece of paper under your hand it stops it sticking. You were born to doodle love the leaves pushed back just by thinner pen.
Great idea thank you
Superbe!j'adore !❤❤❤
