I love the point that Frodo, et al did not have agonizing discussions on Romans 13.

Hallelujah for a fantasy novel. I needed this encouragement badly. My wife and I faithfully lead worship at our church and driving to church Sunday morning I had just had tears flowing silently because all I could think is how many Christians dont get whats going on and I'm heartbroken how shattered their reality and possibly faith will become. But after this podcast I thought of Corrie Ten Boom and her sister - their joy was their weapon, their hope was real. It cannot be taken away and everyone still hungers for faith and hope and joy in the Lord. They need a few to show the way.
This is my favorite blog post of yours, Doug. The applicable lessons continue to ring true as things get weirder.

You are absolutely correct, Mr. Wilson. We, like the hobbits, have been content to enjoy our quiet Shire without understanding why we had the peace we had and now we are generally befuddled and unable to figure out how to properly wake and respond now that all the rules have been slammed down on us. And I joyfully remain in the Control Group. There is great peace and loveliness in the word “No”. I have been saying it since I drew the line in the sand over being commanded to cover my face for no discernible real reason and told I could not visit my family because we would constitute a gathering of more than ten people. I am listening for the horn and I have the matches to light that fire just to enliven things and break the rules.
I recently read The Lord of the Rings and this chapter was so good! Like Pastor Wilson said, a tremendous amount of parallels!
Many are discouraged and are fighting at windmills. Appreciate the focused rally.
The trick to fighting windmills is you have to wait until the fan blade is pointed downward before you take a strike. Or you could just yuse tnt.

I too had to learn to separate myself from my own native nations current state and in fact, understand that I am in the Kingdom of God now and that my people are also those in the Kingdom of God, irrespective of nationality, ethnicity or tribe - we are all one on Christ Jesus our Lord. The more of us that have this outlook, the fewer confrontations there will be between nations and especially from within. The body of Christ takes 1st place over any flag of a nation.
If only the nation's said "What would our Lord Jesus do? What does He command? And we shall obey".
That time is coming... I don't want to see the United States of America, United Kingdom, Europe, China, Russia or whoever continue on with wicked leaders, with wicked lower authorities and with wickedness on the streets because the people are wicked. I want my King Jesus on the throne ruling the entire world and I want Him with all my heart. Because only then shall we ever truly see justice, peace, truth and love in all its glory and in all its perfection. Then the nations will bow and then the nation's will know the way, the truth and the life.
America is going to get blown away into the dust, just like every other nation via the word of the Lord Jesus Himself. I wouldn't get too caught up in MAGA or any other movement that is not centrally focused on the advancement of the Kingdom of God via the Gospel. All things must be brought into captivity under Christ and brought into His service or else it is discarded.

Great word. My boys just finished the Hobbit and asked me to watch the movie with them. Slaying the dragon might prove to be difficult but doable. Just think if the invisible church comes together, sets aside for the moment the non essentials, and forms a mighty band to make a good war. I hope I live long enough to see that. Don't watch the movies, it EXTRACTS all the Biblical teachings from the story and replaces it with WOKE content. Especially The Hobbit's ending. Is garbage. There's a reason why Tolkien's son DETESTS Peter Jackson. Don't give in.

Man, I may finally have to go read LOTR.
It's glorious. It took me a while to get into the rhythm of it, the language & such. But once it clicked, it was wonderful.
Like Mr. Wilson, I have also read The Return of the King many times, and I agree with him that the chapter, The Scouring of the Shire, is THE chapter in all 6 books. My takeaway in "placing" the hobbits of the Shire into our Earth and during the current world-wide pandemic is that the hobbits, everyone of them, would choose to get the shots on their own, and based upon "good hobbit sense", to steal from the canon. The Scouring of the Shire is about individual hobbits coming together to defend their homes and homeland, and they would not shirk at choosing to receive the Covid shots for one moment.

Oh my goodness!!! I knew that Tolkein was inspired by C.S.Lewis, but I never put it all together until now. And now I know why Gandalf (the grey) appeared to die, but returned to the story as Gandalf the White! Thank you for this video. Yes, I definitely need to do some re-reading.
Tolkien (among others) inspired Lewis, at age 32, to return to the Christianity he'd been raised with (Anglicanism) but had left behind. Tolkien was a committed Catholic which led to a number of discussions of theology between them.

It was a travesty that this was left out of the movies. The writers did not understand the underlying theme of nobility of normal people and the necessity for them to stand wisely and act.

See, the Tolkien Society’s Seminar this year should’ve been about this and not “Transgender Realities in Tolkien” lol.
We seriously do need it to decline in seeming like such a painfully irrational waste of time to watch lord of the rings in the USA there is only one God some games can be fine for both adults and children needs to be remembered we shouldn’t have any kind of general self righteous opposition to ever playing any kind of games for sure but the innocent blood and pornography games need to end definitely there is only one God.
The God of a Blake, a Shakespeare, or an Einstein, does not differ from the God housed in you, as there is only one human imagination. There cannot be two. He is not a dual God. You and your imagination are not less than anyone, but you must learn to be persistent.
I was following along until "there are about 100 million Americans who haven't taken the vaccine. With any luck, will be able to keep it that way." I thought taking the vaccine was a matter of choice. Do you mean to say that it's bad to take the vaccine? or that not taking the vaccine is a good form of protest?
I think he means that it isn't Caeser's job to force or coerce the citizenry to take the shot.

Romans 13 is to post-millennialists, what Romans 9 is to Arminians.
I would rather each of us assess our medical needs and decide as individuals whether to get the vaccine or not. I resist both the government and other individuals like you making that decision for me. Risk analysis is different for each of us and ought to be left to individuals to decide their fate.

For someone to speak so confidently as Doug Wilson has (and does here) on vaccine info/statistics, its quite jarring to watch him teach such basic misconceptions about the science of vaccines incorrectly (encouraging the 100 million unvaccinated Americans to hold steady and act as a useful control group, [a nearly incoherent thought])
Only a sheep that wants entire government control would say something about that. The 100 million unvaccinated are unvaccinated for a reason, and have the right to stay that way and make decisions about their own bodies.
