    Retrologue is an amazing synth! It seems pretty neat and straightforward in a way that even if you are not an expert in subtractive synthesis, you can start learning on it! Nice video Dom as always :)

    Retrologue is great. The synth package in Cubase is my go-to one. I use it in every production.
    It may be me, but I perceive that Retrologue has a darker tone to it than some other synth. It fits well to moody tracks I do these days.
    Informative video. I like when sound design goes with explanations behind it. Thanks, Dom!

      I feel the same way. It has a dark and sometimes slightly muddy tone.

    Stock plugins goes a long way. I was a Logic user, and just starter using Cubase. i haven´t used Retrologue much. That´s about to change. Thank you for this great video.

    Excellent tutorial, Dom! very well explained. I love that this is not one of those videos of "do this and that to copy this sound", but a true explanation of the synth itself!

    I did not know about the Key Follow trick for Moog style, thats cool. I made a livestream last saturday about making EDM Sounds in Retrologue and Halion Sonics Flux, you really can do a lot with the Cubase built in synths. Cool video Dom, thank you

    I did the same thing a couple of months back for the Thriller bass line. I got pretty close to the orginal song in its entirety... without using any vintage synths. It was a challenge but probably one of my best videos on TH-cam. Just a shame not many people found it.
    Anyway, I'll be tuning into this for sure. Looking forward to it. :)

    Hey Dom! Just starting to explore synthesis - specifically, looking to integrate retro synth sounds with classical instrumentation and arrangements. To be honest, synths have always freaked me out a little bit...LFOs, filters, envelopes. It all seemed a little unapproachable. Then there was another of your amazing tutorials! Not only did it peeled back some of the mystique and complexity surrounding synth sounds, it was a hell of a lot of fun!!
    Time to break out Retrologue, start creating some sounds and building some arrangements! Thanks, mate.

      Hey Jeff! i am preparing a full course on sound design. It’s taking a huge amount of time but I hope this will help on this. When I started out creating my own sounds I didn’t know where to begin. I’ll let you know when it’s out :) Glad these videos inspire you to go and creat your own sounds!

      @@DomSigalas That's awesome, mate. I can't wait! (well, I guess technically I have to 😊) I'm slowly learning that when I get the 'how the hell do I do this?' technical stuff out of the way, it makes it a whole lot easier to create the sound that I'm hearing in my head...or at least some version of it.

    There is no need to build this Sound... there are alot VST-Instruments out there (yes also Moog) where you already have finished Patches. So why build the own and lost much time? You always said in your Videos that you like to have more fast workflow with Cubase... but when you build already existing patches.. then you not have a fast workflow.

    • @DomSigalas
      @DomSigalas  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, the whole point is for you to create your own unique sounds. Presets are awesome but if you know your way around a synth you can have more personality to your sounds and you can define yourself as a producer. It’s not a pointless exercise in my opinion , it’s a great skill to learn!

  • @bukkaratsuppa6414
    @bukkaratsuppa6414 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Retrologue sucks btw. It just doesen't have the stuff of a real analogue synth - something even my Nord Rack 2X has (pretty much a VSTi from mid-90ies), let alone a real analog synth like the Neutron. But that's kinda ok, because even the Diva has the same problem.

    • @DomSigalas
      @DomSigalas  4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Hmmm, what is it that you want to do and you can't with Retrologue? I respectfully disagree, I can get killer analogue sounding sounds out of it (and I have analogue synths :)) - but like everything when it comes to music, it's all subjective :)

    • @bukkaratsuppa6414
      @bukkaratsuppa6414 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DomSigalas I dunno it just doesen't sound analog (hint: no VSTi does, and not every hardware synth either). You play those oscillators and you hear it right away. The more complex your patch gets, the more this gets disguised by sound chemistry, but when it comes to rag'n'bone double saw bass, this thing doesen't even try to sound authentic (ie there's not even a osc drift simulation).

    • @nabeshin7741
      @nabeshin7741 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, dude, you just took elitism to a whole new level.
      Whatever the case may be, at the end of the day, what does matter the most is the sound you get in result, doesn't it ?
      Just saying.....

    • @bukkaratsuppa6414
      @bukkaratsuppa6414 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nabeshin7741 Aergh.... This is nothing but good ol pickiness about glossy coating, like in every skill on earth. Attention to detail, essentially. Are you saying, any pickiness to sound means irrelevance about the big picture? Well, you could probably wonder how much rock or metal guitarists worry about what they call guitar tone.

    Here is some background story regarding the creation of the Thriller album sound - starting from 35:15 th-cam.com/video/_poihkLM5Go/w-d-xo.html - the characteristic riff on Billy Jean was Yamaha CS-80 layered with other synths. Interesting story!
