13 players of the Wallabies 23 to play Wales were in Dave Rennie’s squad on the northern hemisphere spring tour 2022. Not exactly unknowns. That team lost to France 30-29 and Ireland 13-10. And then Eddie came along and wreaked havoc.
Dave Rennie? the guy who had a 36% win rate with Australia over 3 full seasons of coaching?
They legit lost twice as much as they won with that playing group. Eddie gambled and eddie lost but it was clear he had to try something different.
I’m heading down to Melbourne with my two sons to watch this. I hope a crowd shows up.

Jealous. Durban doesn’t get winter. Cape Town is cold, wet and windy. South Africa had plenty of snow in some regions over the last several days
As a Welshman I find this squad incredibly frustrating. There are some very talented players in this squad but our gameplan is so restrictive, some of our inform players are left at home and the coaching staff are ignoring issues at the set piece. Not to mention just 8 out of the 15 players are starting in the position they play most their rugby
When you get the magnifying glass out and take a closer look at what's going, it really is criminal, as you have suggested, and it just doesn't make sense.
@@robday3968 WRU have made mistakes over the past decade but those mistakes are not the sole reason this team is as bad it is. A great deal of responsibility needs to be put on the coaching staff

To allow Aus to get better rugby union needs to incentivize speeding the game up and less false injury breaks and group meetings so that they can compete with league, which is much less interesting in the details, but to your average crowd they don't watch for that but the speed o game

How often have the Wobs put out a nearly identical XV more than once in a row in the last 5 years? 10 years? I can remember it happening maybe 2 times?
My one wish for the Schmidt era is to see the Wobs build on facets of their game without having other facets going backwards in exchange.

Wales probably deserve their ranking of 11th in the World, but it is sad to see how far they have fallen, and expect them to lose badly again this weekend
Wales are in a terrible state, this from a nation that gave us many of the greatest players ever to have played the game. It is so sad, would a copy of the Irish model work in Wales? Is it simply a question of money, or a deeper problem plagueing the school and age grade levels? I would appreciate an answer from a Welshman as I genuinely want to see Wales come back.
Firstly we aren’t as bad as it seems from our recent results. Gatlands squad and team selections have been awful and are really hurting us. Could probably put together a side of fit players at the regions who didn’t make the squad that would beat this welsh side. Secondly, the new CEO at the WRU hasn’t done an awful job and I do think things are moving in the right direction. Her only mistake was not accepting Gatlands resignation after the Italy game
In my opinion I’m happy with this rebuilding stage. We are literally building from the bottom up so I’ll judge them when the next World Cup starts. Anything in between will be a good bonus along the way but I think this team will be firing by then considering their ages.
Gatland is not picking inform players and the players he does pick are playing in the right positions.
@@kennethjames9416 yes I agree I think this has always been gatlands problem. I understand the building process and it will give us plenty of options going forward but for now it’s not looking good. How do you think it’s going to go tomorrow?

@@EggchasersRugby He actually did play one game for Wales at full back due to a last minute injury to Lee Byrne;played mostly on the wing for Cardiff
@@EggchasersRugby big difference between Roberts and Grady is that Grady won’t be playing 12 for Cardiff. Ben Thomas has been the best back in wales this season and as a result Cardiff have built an attack around him at 12

Very disappointed in W.Gatlands selection for this match He is persisting with things that just didn't work and he won't be using in the autumn Where i suspect he will really start selecting his real squad to go forward with to the RWC in 2027 Wales do have a chance of victory but to my ind it is a very slim chance my prediction is Australia by 12 minimum [ 22-10]
I have never even heard the names of 11 out of 23 Australians. In 1995 I could have named every member of the squad in my sleep. Is it me or them?
Wales were far too conservative bringing gatland back. Dont have the same quality of players to recreate their glory days...
Tim what do you think of rugby league. I am involved wit SA Rhinos league team. There is talks of a world cup to be play in 2026. Your thoughts on it. SA tops in rugby union but rugby leaque we are somewhere in he 20s in the world. Dos not ad up to me.
Garland has passed it, sorry to say. Trying to do things the way he did 10 years ago. Moving Grady to 12 like Roberts is a prime example. Leaving players at home who deserve a place in the team. He is a dictator and has the WRU by the balls with his contract. Shame to see him fail like this after all the good he did for Wales first time around. #NeverGoBack

My issue with Mason Grady at 12 isn’t as much about it not being right for him (but he should be a 13), and more to do with the other 12s not being picked. Hawkins (albeit for our ridiculous eligibility rules), Llewelyn, and Eddie James are all great potential 12s being overlooked. Even Ben Thomas would be a better choice, but I’m willing to stick with the Gatland #10 experiment.

Wales actually have nothing to lose, so have a bit of confidence in them they were rebuild. Im sick of people writing teams off. There are plenty of All Blacks already writing England for a loss. No faith, yet super high expectations

It is just me or did the Welsh players look quite small (slim) compared to teams before?
I thought the Aussies were gonna smoke them, especially after the first 20-30 where they looked quite impressive but after the Welsh came back, which shouldn't have happened really, the Aussies looked a bit average.
Good game but hard to judge. The English, Irish and Kiwi squads look like they could be really good teams in the future, the Aussies too if Schmiddy can put some backbone in them, they have the skills for sure but seem to lack the commitment.

There’s some very talented players in this welsh squad who are being mismanaged and told to play a gameplan that doesn’t suit them. Whenever we comeback into games it’s often because our halfbacks have decided to throw our gameplan out the window for 5/10 minutes

Im actually a tad insulted calling this the Basketcase Bowl. Every team goes through what any team cycles through in World Rugby, including England when they panicked about England losing. So maybe lay off and enjoyg some good rugby. Seems you really only have a love affair for the Boks and All Blacks.
I’m a kiwi and I’m insulted by the title Basketcase Bowl that he gave to Australia and Wales. It seems as subscriber numbers goes up, the disrespect goes down.

And in any case - it's clear he's not familiar with most Au players. Not as across the details as say Two Cents Rugby (yet tries to pretend to be).
