what's the point of wasting time investing in players that are going to league, Schmidt is a no nonsense calculated type of bloke, to earn a spot in the Green and Golds requires absolute commitment, hes building depth and experience as an ABs supporter im not underestimating the old Fox

Schmidt is Doing exactly what Rugby Australia should’ve been doing all this time, prioritising players that want to stay in union instead of spending big on keeping individuals

How brainless is the journalism in this vid -
“Joe did you realise you’ve only picked 14 from the World Cup squad last year? Are you taking this in a new direction?”
“No we picked on form in super rugby and commitment to Australia”
“Thanks Joe, so there’s 13 uncapped players in the squad, are you taking things in a new direction?”
    Bloody hell.

Now you got a coach that will knock you back even if your attack skills are world class. NRL dominates the landscape in this country other than AFL and that’s were all the resources go.

The problem with Wallabies come from grassroots, if you see how the selection within grassroots is conditioned to keep the status “rich man’s sport” rather than selecting the best talent, is very telling as to why league is favoured over union. No wonder the selection is poor. You can only do so much with coaching when you don’t have real talent within the squad
I mean other than Hooper and Pocock, who else from the Wallabies in the last 10 years can be considered household names in the rugby world. Every other nation has multiple players and Australia really only has 2 from the last 10years, 3 if we include Folau.
I’m hoping Schmidt can influence this which will hopefully push for more of Australia’s talent to commit to union. So much of Australia’s talent choose league because there is more opportunity, because within grassroots they are intentionally NOT getting that opportunity. Australia has the talent to become like the All Blacks but it starts from grassroots
