As far as NEED?.......there are no products for sale anywhere on the planet anyone NEEDS.....only WANT! Someone will want it!
and I can argue this point all day long! So please dont tell me some products are needed to live
Endlessly the answer will be thats a WANT
      you dont need to LIVE.
if you "want" to live....its a WANT but not a need...and the desire is only yours....doesnt affect anyone else on the planet. A vague memory is all to anyone you will ever be...and that memory is only for a half of a century for most friends...and family..then its like you never existed.
Kinda like all the crap everyone in the world ever buys...
Will all turn to dust and rust ....so its all a want!

Wouldn't it have it's own fuel pickup vs tying into the main fuel line? I know each manufacturer kinda does their own thing, but on my rig they use a separate fuel pickup at about the 1/4 tank level such that the generator can never run the tank dry and you have fuel left for the rig's engine if you leave the generator on too long.

    • @barneymerrill3188

He also had to be careful about how many tools he took on their trips. He always changed his own oil along their way. I showed his wife some of the vlogs when you were in Washingdon State. She loved the scenery and it brought back good days for her. Her hub told the kids if they wanted the RV they would always be working on it, just like you said. Hello Sir, we watch you all the time - love the content / videos. On the subject of the Generator, we have a 2007 Tiffin Allegro and a Onan 5500 (I think 5500 or maybe 5000) but non the less, we had a problem with it back in July 2017. It would not start and Camping World charged us over $900 to replace the Carburetor (I will note that it was probably my fault as we sat for several months and I did not run it from time to time). We went on our merry way and it would run then just stop for what seemed no reason. After the Carb replacement I began putting additive in the gas from time to time to make sure it did not gum up again but going down the road or hit a bump - you name it, it would stop (this was before I knew how to do Propane for the Fridge and such).... Fast forward, had a guy out to fix the awning and asked him about the ONAN. It seems there is an adjustment for the ALTITUDE on them. He adjusted mine all the way up for HIGH altitude (as a the time we were there) and I have not had a bit of a problem since then. Something to give a try - cannot hurt to try and may save you a few (or more) DOLLARS. Hope it helps, keep putting those videos out - be yourself and I say that because we all have our good days and bad days (especially this year).

  • @PlaneSaddles
    @PlaneSaddles 3 ปีที่แล้ว

This is what we would have done if this came through our shop:
Get a sample of gas from the hose going to the gen or into the carburetor. See if there is debris or water/bas gas. (Yes it is the same fuel as the main engine but something may happen in between).
Take a container with a gallon of gas and run a hose directly to the generator pump, run it on good gas. To see if it is on the gen or the fuel supply side.
There is very likely a 2nd low pressure (4psi) pump between the fuel tank and generator. It may have an intermittent connection, has problems when it gets hot, or just dead. We would replace. This is where I would place a bet is the problem. 3 weeks ago there was an 800 unit back order for this pump, Orielly's has a unit that is the same (4psi) but mounting is different.
If it is a carb problem then replace it. ONAN has told us before that the carbs do not clean or rebuild well and that if the carb has a problem then replace.

There are several possibilities for when this issue takes place. One possible cause, according to the handbook, is that the airflow is restricted and the engine is not getting cooled fast enough.
The reasons behind this possibility are that there is some debris blocking the inlet or outlet ports. This debris ranges from dirt and leaves to mice nests and other small animals making their home in these outlets.
Another issue that may cause this problem is that dirt and oil are covering the cooling fins. To solve this problem, you need to clean away all the dirt and oil from the cooling fins, including the internal passageways.
Other sources can be a vapor lock, air intake is set at cold weather settings, or the choke is set wrong. There are a variety of things to check before finding the right answer.
Part of your solutions may include adjusting the fuel mixture screws, check the float level, dirt got into your carb and you need to clean it out, and you may have a vacuum leak.
Then one simple source that may be very hard to fix, is that the weather outside is just too hot for the generator to work properly. Sometimes 90 degrees F is just too hot for the unit to handle and it overheats then shuts off.

I noticed you started having generator problems right after you did the last oil change. I would double check and make sure the oil filter isn't plugged or clogged or something causing resistance to the oil flow which is making the engine shut off after certain amount of time. And I also noticed you started having troubles with the slide out shortly after you ripped out the bunk bed framing. My guess is some of that framing for the bunk bed system was needed to help keep the slide out square on on the tracks or even the extra weight of the mattresses and framing for the bunk beds is needed to help keep down Force onto the track so the teeth don't jump off the track as the slide goes in and out. I have done similar modifications to camp trailers and RV's over the years and then come to realize after the fact there was specific engineering behind some of those things that I removed.

Ok... I Have a Mirada as well... Two things it could be... 1. Bad fuel line to tank or clogged intake inside main tank... 2. Vapor lock if fuel line is too close to exhaust... Solution for number 1... Pull fuel tank, inspect intake and clean... replace fuel line... Solution for number 2 reroute fuel line away from heat sources and or insulate the line to avoid vapor lock... Hope these ideas help... Best of luck.. :-)

Eric. I firmly believe there is nothing wrong with the generator itself but something electrical. I had a problem with mine in that it would run my entire coach but the minute that the a.c. compressor turned on it would kill the generator. I put new capacitors x2, fuses and breakers, fuel filters you name it and I replaced it. Even the brushes inside the power head. Turned out it was my control board. A tiny little section had shorted and left a little char mark that everyone missed. One new control board later and it runs like new again.

Considering that it was a DYI install, and at a location of your own choosing I'd say that you've done pretty well with that monster TV. I'm amazed that you were able to go as many miles as you already have without it falling to the floor. If you decide to reinstall it, I would suggest that you put a small ledge / shelf with a lip on it for the TV to rest on when the arm is in the retracted position. Another thing you could add are some clips on hinges on either side of the TV to hold it tight to the wall in transit.

My proffesional opinion on your generator Eric, Check the fuel connectons, It should mount directly to the tank, Not a t off on the other feul lines, so tank, filter, fuel pump generator. )if a over the top suction line is used, check for air leaks in the riser! It looks like it works fine for a wile, and then starving out off feul, Check the carb bowl after it just shutted off, if there is no fuel you know what is wrong. )Also , by priming it, prime it a little longer, then it will start easier. You mentioned the change in running after a while, Thats the engine running leaner, so it looks like a feul problem, or even the electric feul pump quitting. )Check iff it stays running when the engine runs, if it stops after a while it might be one of the things that can cause this problem, Check out , and change all the relays in the system, they were out. to, that can get the pump running out off power after a while.. And be sure that pump is a good one, that does not overheats and stop after a while... it wil not be the first one....use a electric pump they use in the old VW beetle, it should be a very low pressure one... ,carb use' remember these pumps are not cooled by the fuel flow! like by modern injected engines.

Eric , on an rv generator there is a internal fuel shut off in the carburetor that is electromagnetic that shuts the fuel off when you turn off your generator to prevent dieasaling . It is a safety function or i call it an rvers nightmare . Now on the carb there is a single wire , it is easy to spot its the only wire that attaches to the carb . Now disconnect it and tape the end so that it can not short out on anything . Then get some spare wire out of the tool box and hook one end on the power side of your starter solenoid and the other to where you disconnected on the carb , you should here a click . Next step run generator

Hey, what's your opinion of having on demand water instead of the little pump and 6 gallon tank? Don't have too much fun. I'll get jealous. Happy trails.

Hey Eric, when the generator dies, you need to check for spark, if no spark, that will get you going in the right direction, if you have spark, 99% chance you don't have fuel, and you can use a shot of starter fluid in the carb to see if it fires. It's simple, you need fuel, compression, and spark. Compression won't be an issue I'm sure, so it's fuel or spark. It's a process of elimination. Myself, since it was surging before it shut down, I'm going with fuel.

Remember Eric if it has tatas or tires it’s going to be trouble. You can handle this. Take your time and spend more time trouble shooting and less time throwing parts at it. And I agree with the Televator idea that is what I thought about when you originally mounted the tv. Love your channel.

This is a late suggestion but MORryde builds a TV Lift assembly. I used one to relocate my TV in an earlier Class A that I owned. In yours, the TV could be behind the dresser when not in use and rise for when you want to watch. That would give you your window back when not watching TV.

I’ve owned several RV’s over the years and all had inside access to the water pump. I assume you checked behind panels near where it’s located to see if there’s inside access? Maybe save yourself some aggravation and time the next time you have to change it?

Long time subscriber here and I have gained so much info about rv items and issues in the 6 years.. I have a suggestion on the generator (I did this with my Onan in a 1993 Itasca ). Run a fuel line from a 5 gallon gas can see if it continues to run until out of fuel... sounds strange but give it a try...
Thanks for the years of fun, entertainment and knowledge.

The joys of RV ownership. I can't remember all the parts you changed on generator but that almost sounds like the coil, once it gets heat soaked it shuts off. A good check would be to pull the plug wire and see if there's spark. Wouldn't think it would be a sensor since the control panel would have to shut it off.

I have had mine for three years and no problems. Also had a good review on the Generator Power channel. At my base camp cabin I also have the Westinghouse 9500 watt peak, 7500 watt run gas generator there. Another great machine and very happy with it too.

Eric, I know you may have had the fuel lines ,pump, and filter replaced.. The code 36 means the motor stopped without a command from the control board. With that being said fuel or air is what will shut it off. The last few times I have ran across this issue, I have found the pump will run for a while then stopped. It will not start back till the pump cools. Replace the pump. I know it may be a new pump but I have gotten several that were bad. Good luck with the rest of the repairs. Wish I was close so I could help.

Eric unless you are willing to stay by the gen for when it dies to try and diagnose you are whistling dixie. When it quits right away does it turn over and start again, if not does it have spark, if yes take some either and see if it will start if it will start checking fuel lines all the way back to the tank if nec jury rig a tank beside the gen and see if it will run. You have to do these things right after it quits to know what circuit is giving you the problem.

  • @CarlJones14

You could have a TV that goes up and down behind the unit. I think the gen shuts down because of your advanced battery system. It has something to do with current flow. Maybe turn on as much as you can with half charged batteries and then run the generator. You said it cuts out at a selection of times. This looks like your advanced battery system/inverter is shuting down the generator.
Maybe talk to someone who knows this stuff and see if they also think the system is shuting the gen down. Stay positive. Bigger bed storage for your prepping supplies... TP a-plenty.😂😂😂👍

Hi Eric, the generator is air cooled. You should not run it without the cover or it will overheat. I would try again with the cover on. The cover actually helps “channel” the aire the cool the engine.

#75 Good morning, Eric. I like that you are showing all U-Tubers about problems when trying to repair certain Motorhomes. That may assist the U-Tuber in their choice decision about what brand of Motorhome to buy! Also, "Onan" is now Cummins-Bridgeway. Your unit may still be a true "Onan". Good Luck with that?

  • @tossmein
    @tossmein 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Eric, Not sure if you have looked into this, but one of the site I found said if the generator shuts off when warm, it could be an airflow restrictions causing the engine not to cool fast enough. Debris maybe blocking the inlet or outlet ports or there maybe dirt or oil in the cooling fins.

Get a Harbor Freight Predictor 2000 Generator. They are actually really good generators, made by Powerhorse. Northern Tool sells the same generator under the Powerhorse brand, but Harbor Freight is usually a little cheaper.
