Thanks for watching this video with me and Ty The weird "strange rock" was a iron concretion with Boytroydal limonite Can see allot more of the fish underwater than i figured you would be able too
If you will take a Booyah Toadrunner and remove the paddle tail, then slip the eye of a big enough treble hook over each existing hook, that hook-up ratio will increase significantly. Kinda like using the trebles as trailer hooks if you catch my drift.
I used to have 2x Florida Gars in my aquarium for like 10 years. They really like to smell things before they bite. My suggestion is to get some fish scent on your lures next time, when he follows it up, just slightly twitch it and I could almost guarantee he’ll grab it at the surface like a dead minnow. Mine used to come up and grab my fingers so I wouldn’t go dangling anything in that water that you don’t want bitten.
Yeah me too. Too nervous, too quick. Guy needs more calm. And several times, the way they set hooks, I thought, ok this one will end up in the other bloke's eye. Just too hasty these guys.
These are long nose gar Remeber they said hope to hook one Its obvious with the top water baits they are just having gun with them And its very cool to watch

Old world way of fishing! Incredible how they just get their teeth stuck in the rope! You have to be careful though just a little slack and the rope falls out
You shouldn't do that with the alligator gar especially the monster ones like we have in Texas. At one time alligator gars were everywhere they were considered trash fish and almost fished to Extinction one of the few places where they still grow this large is the Trinity River it's important as a fisherman and a Texan to preserve these fish finding them this large is impossible anywhere else catch and release.
Geologist here (also like to fish), the fossil tree with rings would be nice slab at about 1 inch thick and polished. But that will definitely take a stone saw with water because it formed when molecules of quartz substituted for the wood to make the hard fossil. So it is harder than most granite. So it is very hard stuff. Before I would buy any of that equipment (if u don't already have) you can buy polished slabs on ebay. For me this video was awesome mix of fossil trees and 2 species of living fossil fish.
We spent a night trying to catch long-nose that way. It is a blast to have them striking and following all night long, even if you don't get them in. When I was wading in coves as a kid, I used to catch gar on prop baits on Lake Fort Phantom. Great memories.

Dead weight for an hour on 25 lb test. Got it alongside the boat and it was a massive gar, as long as the boat, beak about 2’ long and 2” scales! There are hidden giants out there for sure.
