  • In this video, Henry Martin, one of the best fishing guides in the south, and I, are fishing in a somewhat clear water creek for giant fish!
We are using whopper ploppers and swimbaits, and the coolest part about this video, is we see EVERY FISH that strikes! The craziest part was the biggest fish were hiding in trees, looking just like big logs!
THANK YOU FOR WATCHING, PLEASE LIKE, COMMENT, AND SUBSCRIBE!

If you will take a Booyah Toadrunner and remove the paddle tail, then slip the eye of a big enough treble hook over each existing hook, that hook-up ratio will increase significantly. Kinda like using the trebles as trailer hooks if you catch my drift.

I used to have 2x Florida Gars in my aquarium for like 10 years. They really like to smell things before they bite. My suggestion is to get some fish scent on your lures next time, when he follows it up, just slightly twitch it and I could almost guarantee he’ll grab it at the surface like a dead minnow. Mine used to come up and grab my fingers so I wouldn’t go dangling anything in that water that you don’t want bitten.

You shouldn't do that with the alligator gar especially the monster ones like we have in Texas. At one time alligator gars were everywhere they were considered trash fish and almost fished to Extinction one of the few places where they still grow this large is the Trinity River it's important as a fisherman and a Texan to preserve these fish finding them this large is impossible anywhere else catch and release.

Love seeing monsters. About 20 years ago I lived on a small brackish lake in N.Miami Beach. Would do night fishing in my 18’ deep v with my dad. Floating live mullet. Caught a log, or so I thought. Dead weight for an hour on 25 lb test. Got it alongside the boat and it was a massive gar, as long as the boat, beak about 2’ long and 2” scales! There are hidden giants out there for sure. Oh, released the old dud unharmed.

Eastern Texas is an alluvial plain, so this is typical of east Texas rivers. Since the terrain is so flat, the rivers, especially in the eastern half of the state, have extremely little current unless there had been a recent rain, and are therefore often quite muddy. However, these rivers are home to some impressive fish.

I think its the absence of the "right" smell that prevents them from striking..they swim behind and sniff and then break off but glad to see that the gar is far from extinct..the thought of people (reportedly) going after them with bow and arrow and do away with large numbers of these fish just for sport....well, fishing is also "just for sport" but it is not lethal and leads to understanding this unique habitat which leads to ..hopefully... protecting it You KNOW this world needs to turn a corner in this lifetime.

You’re consistently crossing over to the other side when you set the hook. This is giving enough slack for the fish to spit. You could have set the hook with a 6 inch pull every time. But you keep crossing over 2 feet or more before you set on the opposite side. That’s why you lose so many fish.

Need some nylon rope gar baits. No hook, they get their teeth hung in it. Not hard to make. Use a large wire nut, burn a hole through the center. Unravel and double over, about 8 inches of white nylon rope. Use 100# to use as leader material. Once you pull the line up fill the inside of the rest of the nut, with super glue. Can add split shot for weight.

I've got 6 foot long nose on just frayed rope. But the best method. Is to hook a 2 inch bluegill with a worm hook. And tie a shitload of white rope to your hook. Put it about 10 inches below a big float. It works great

Watching this just pissed me off lol you coulda caught so many of those if you knew how to catch gar.. Gar take their time eating so when they bite just let them eat it for a minute before setting the hook. Quickly setting the hook only works with stuff like rope not lures

I have like 50 videos catching gar over 100 lbs and many over 200 lbs and over 8 foot. we are trying to get them on lures so the only way is a quick hookset.

Dude you're missing all these fish because you are setting wayyyyy too soon? Let him take it for about 1-2 seconds, then set that hook! I promise you that you will catch way more fish.

Why is your trace so highly visible? What's it made out of? When we fish for pike in the UK we use a much thinner trace that's hard to see in the water. Might be why a lot of them were hitting the lure but not properly biting it in my opinion.

When ur going after gar like that, take a piece of frayed string or carpet and tie it to ur bait. Gar teeth are slightly serrated causing them to get hung up on the string. It doesn't hurt them, but you'll more hook ups.

That's the definition of a gar hole. Most people, myself included, wouldn't even bother tossing a line in there

You should try a Musky rubber Tiger Tube for those. Something they can grab onto and hold onto might work better.
