I have been an Eric fan for many years. He is my #1 musician. There may me many faster and even better guitar players but no other can pick the perfect notes like him. There is such a sweetness in his lead, always blending majors with relative minor scales. He is simply like no other.
I lost my husband just a year ago and this song resonates in my heart. Every person's pain is their own and this song makes the loneliness just a bit more bearable.
I lost my angel curt novak 23 years ago to brain cancer and eric clapton made this song when his 2 year old boy cralled out that penthouse in ny to his death and eric went sober after that god bless you eric clapton
An absolute Masterpiece Songs like this dont just come from thought. It comes from experiencing the pain he is expressing and he has had lots of it. Great song
it rips me up every time I hear it. He did his whole Pilgrim album a decade or so back... the tour was Reptile..the man was DOWN. He had a fairly big orchestra in the middle floor (circle stage, unusual..) LIKE IT SOUNDS HERE..DEVASTATINGLY BEAUTIFUL. Now that's when Chicago fans had the same respect that Eric is most charmed by in Japan.
Damn this song is too sad! My hearts go out to anyone who's lost a child, I can't imagine. Thank you E. Clapton, putting yourself out there, you've touched and help so many who have lost their everything.
I have seen you, Eric, three wonderful, memorable times. Once you were terribly sick, but still performed amazingly. That was back in the early '80's in Montana. You are like none other, and this song is one of my favorites. Thanks for the memories and I truly hope you are blessed with many more talented years and that you continue to share your gift with us.
In the years when I lived in Dortmund, Eric Clapton three times gave a concert in the Westfalenhallen. So I rang up the telephonnumber which was undersigned at the advertisement. Everytime someone laughed loud at me, two times I heard the question what I would be thinking of when I had to phone. No tickets had been available the weeks before the concert happened.
It`s three miles to the river That would carry me away, And two miles to the dusty street That I saw you on today It`s four miles to my lonely room Where I will hide my face, And about half a mile to the downtown bar That I ran from in disgrace Lord, how long have I got to keep on running, Seven hours, seven days or seven years? All I know is, since you`ve been gone I feel like I`m drowning in a river, Drowning in a river of tears Drowning in a river Feel like I`m drowning, Drowning in a river In three more days, I`ll leave this town And disappear without a trace A year from now, maybe settle down Where no one knows my face I wish that I could hold you One more time to ease the pain But my time`s run out and I got to go Got to run away again Still I catch myself thinking, One day I`ll find my way back here You`ll save me from drowning, Drowning in a river, Drowning in a river of tears Drowning in a river Feels like I`m drowning, Drowning in the river. Lord, how long must this go on?
Between that sound from the guitar along with the pain in his incredible voice, who can deny the man knows what pain from loss can do. The solos alone are wrenching. Man can play blues for me anytime.
The best musician ever. He sings with his heart, soul and his feelings. Sometimes, especially in 'Tears in heaven', I can feel his pain. I don't know many musicians who can do that. Thank you Eric Clapton!
Eric Clapton has been my favorite guitar player for 40 years and he hs had so many amazing performances, there is no way to pick out which is better than another.....but this one tears at my heart in such a way that I keep watching it marveling that even in his simplicity he can bring me to pure love
They only wanna hear Crossroads or Sunshine over and over again! Too many of the 'he was only good with Mayall and Cream' brigade, I'm afraid....they can't move on!
from his heart I wish that I could hold you...one more time to ease the pain from the heart he has been there ..this song was written after he lost his little boy so its heartfelt
Midwest Hot Rods & Muscle Cars some of the sweetest notes he plays is when he cups the pic in his hand and plays finger to string. it's like his heart & soul is right in each of his fingers
It is the lace pickups....that is my favorite EC sound, after his Gibson Les Paul & 335 years. You can tell lace pickups anytime, they are not used a lot for some reason.....
I have listened to Eric Clapton for more years than I can count; with John Mayall, with the Yardbirds, Cream, Delanie, Bonnie and Friends, the Layla sessions and solo - I truly believe this is probably the best song he ever did. Excuse the spelling and such, I'm a bit drunk right now!
Great performance, I also liked how Nathan East (who's one of the best bass players in the business) gave Eric respect at the end of the tune. Class act.
Oh Mr Clapton I thought nothing could beat Moon River but I must say that a River of tears is oh...... right up there both give the shivers touches my soul. Just wanted to say thank you for sharing your music and your passion. I'm a recovering person when I hear your music I'm working my program. Now not all your music hehe. Prayers 🙏 to you and yours.
As long as I’ve been a fan and never heard this… WOW!!!!!! Eric started my journey with guitar. “Like a fool I fell in love with you, you turned my whole world upside down”! Edit… I can’t get enough of this song now!
Weather a pond surrounded by Lillies, maybe just a creek outlined by pebbles, or a river filled with Salt Water and Tears. that's the Music my tears would sing,,
One of my favorite songs in concert..I remember when I first saw him perform this song.. He was really getting into the vocals; Joe Cocker type of hand movements..He was definitely feeling it that night..This is a fine version..
Eric is a very special musician, you can feel the power and meaning in all of his music,no matter who he plays with,Mr. Slow hand is just great,we must all enjoy his music as well as many musician of his time, for us it's later than we think Eric, and his friends ,music is going to be very very hard to replace so let's all enjoy what we grew up with in the music he supplied us with, one of the greatest guitar players of all time ,Thank you Mr.Clapton
I have a lot of Eric Clapton music in my iPod and iPhone. I have really been a fan since the days of Cream and Derek and the Dominos. This coming Wednesday I get to attend my first Eric Clapton concert. This concert has been on (bucket) list of things I want to accomplish in my life time. Up until this coming week, I have only seen him in You Tube videos and DVD concerts. So I will be in the crowd at OKC's Chesapeake Energy Arena enjoying and soaking in the beautiful music of Eric Clapton.
While it's about a relationship ending...the line..."since you've been gone, I feel like I'm drowning in a river of tears" hit me real hard as I listened to this in the days after my father died...Thanks EC, for your music...it's healing for me.
By hearing tis sad and beautiful song I just read Isaiah 57, 15. This remembers me to the vers my pastor gave to me after being baptized 38 years in a lake ago: 'The Lord is near to them who have a broken heart and saves such who have a contrite spirit.' Psalm 34, 18 🌿📖⚘️🙏
Eric, it is impossible for me to hold it together EVERY time I hear this song. From that very first cord, the tears begin, how in God's name can you perform it? Im in pain and I dont even know why. God bless you man.

As a self proclaimed "guitar player" I have found his music to be soulful, & sometimes just magic. Most of my earliest learned songs were "wonderful tonight" "House of the rising son" (I did NOT even know was Clapton till recently). The fact that he is still gracing us w/ this beautiful music is a gift. I find that too much will lead to my sound leaning in that direction. YES, a good thing, yet very hard to find my own groove and style if I over do it. Same w/ David Gilmour. maybe the clarity?
❤ Eric through my life you are my emotional blood. My go to when times are good my pick me up when times are bad. Your music and especially your guitar playing affects my soul in a way no other artist can do you are simply amazing.
I think the lyrics of this song are beautiful. The important thing is to know that the time has come. and know how to go..... Go ahead and wish me well I'll cry a wish well I will fly before I fail I'll set sail and get away
@marinepurple I salute you for you and your brothers in arms for doing the dirty job overseas And the falling and lost Brothers in Gods hands cheers Keep upp the good work
my other half. .her father was very fond of this song, he was about his business, and had a heart attack, that finished his life. this is a reminder that life is short, don't forget that.
This is such a beautiful song but I know the heartbreak he must have gone through with his son I lost my brother by someone not watching where they were driving I have the same feelings at time's this song came from his heart & soul thank you for the upload I have tickets to see him in March he did a gig in London a friend of mine was there said he put on a good show but was not the same Eric life is a bitch at times
my opinion is the "One More Car" version is more powerful. Billy Preston on organ really stirred Clapton's juices that night. I was fortunate to be at Staples Center during the recording. It was such a great concert we were numb for hours after it was over. Even a dozen years later, it rings in my ears.
The Greatest Guitarist of all time. Mr. Eric Clapton. Thank You....

Just tugs at my heart strings
❤🎉🎉🎉😢
I lost my husband just a year ago and this song resonates in my heart. Every person's pain is their own and this song makes the loneliness just a bit more bearable.
Sorry for your loss 🤟🙏😇
I understand what you saying... Feel your pain and know mine all too well. Sure is a wonderful song.
I lost my angel curt novak 23 years ago to brain cancer and eric clapton made this song when his 2 year old boy cralled out that penthouse in ny to his death and eric went sober after that god bless you eric clapton
Thank you Eric for this beautiful song
This is one of the most amazing songs ever written...
An absolute Masterpiece
Songs like this dont just come from thought. It comes from experiencing the pain he is expressing and he has had lots of it. Great song
R.I.P. Conor ... Dear Eric, you are a big man, you are my hero. I feel your loss, you stayed so strong and grieft so bravely. God bless you.
❤😢 THANK YOU ERIC, THIS IS DEDICATED TO MY MOM AND DAD IN HEAVEN ❤❤😢😢😢
MISSED SO VERY MUCH ❤❤ YOU AND YOUR MUSIC 🎶 EASIES MY PAIN. THANK YOU
it rips me up every time I hear it. He did his whole Pilgrim album a decade or so back... the tour was Reptile..the man was DOWN.

The only artist out here that can make a guitar talk and cry at the same time.
The late Gary Moore too
I don’t know about that lol. David Gilmour is right there with him . Definitely 2 of the greatest ever.
I love his blues guitar. You feel the emotion from his music.
Well, this could be true but maybe you should listen to Jeff Beck. It is true he may be the only living guitarist in this category.
Still, quite a statement.
I have seen you, Eric, three wonderful, memorable times. Once you were terribly sick, but still performed amazingly. That was back in the early '80's in Montana. This song captures your soul instantly!!! So moving beyond words, Extraordinary!!!!!
I've seen alot of performers in my life, but EC has got it all. What a wonderful, talented genius and gentleman you are sir!
This is a sad song, Eric's saddest and one of the saddest of all time, yes...
I always loved EC when he used to play river of tears live....
I was at this concert and I remember this song brought tears to my eyes. So cool to have been there and that it was a release. Love ya Eric!
I sat about 10 rows in front of him in Orlando, had lost my sister a few years earlier and not ashamed to saw I wept openly this entire song

Where ?
One of the most underated songs EVER.
I don't really know if I'd consider this underrated, since it's on best of compilations, and there are lots of live versions.
I agree 100%
No it’s not ! I’m rating it a 100% awesome 👏🥳
How can you love somebody you never even met more than all the people you've known all your life? I do. I love him more than my own life.
It`s three miles to the river
That would carry me away,
And two miles to the dusty street
That I saw you on today
It`s four miles to my lonely room
Where I will hide my face,
And about half a mile to the downtown bar
That I ran from in disgrace
Lord, how long have I got to keep on running,
Seven hours, seven days or seven years?
All I know is, since you`ve been gone
I feel like I`m drowning in a river,
Drowning in a river of tears
Drowning in a river
Feel like I`m drowning,
Drowning in a river
In three more days, I`ll leave this town
And disappear without a trace
A year from now, maybe settle down
Where no one knows my face
I wish that I could hold you
One more time to ease the pain
But my time`s run out and I got to go
Got to run away again
Still I catch myself thinking,
One day I`ll find my way back here
You`ll save me from drowning,
Drowning in a river,
Drowning in a river of tears
Drowning in a river
Feels like I`m drowning,
Drowning in the river.
Lord, how long must this go on?
I never witnessed Clapton perform this live...every time I hear him, I am "drowning in a river of tears "...
Less than a million views? Cuz, I know I’ve viewed this masterpiece at least a billion times 🤔❤️❤️❤️
Eric Clapton has been my favorite guitar player for 40 years and he hs had so many amazing performances, there is no way to pick out which is better than another.....but this one tears at my heart in such a way that I keep watching it marveling that even in his simplicity he can bring me to pure love
Amazing emotion conveyed in his playing style... Gary Moore was good at that as well.. But clapton is the master for sure..
Gary was better
the most beautiful song I have ever heard, Eric is number 1 for me. love that man and the music he has brought to my life
This song gets me every time... It's just damn beautiful. The 16 people that hit the dislike button must be deaf or something
Jaded Star: their river is deNile
Theyl be drowning in a river of tears when they see ur comment!
They only wanna hear Crossroads or Sunshine over and over again! Too many of the 'he was only good with Mayall and Cream' brigade, I'm afraid....they can't move on!
Not sad...so necessary for Clapton. From one parent to another.
E' bellissima !!!! Eric ha scritto questa canzone dopo avere superato tutti i suoi dolori.
Amazing video...
Beautiful. Thank you for the release. Eric your music all means so much to me and thousands of others.
Thank you for this lovely cathartic release. Tonight, many grateful people are hearing this.
Eric Clapton will go down as one of the Top 10 in music of our age hundred years from now! He clearly re-invents even his own stuff! Amazing!
Isplaces rijeku suza kad izgubis nekog vaznog sebi...........predivna stvar......hvala Eric
Really made me cry. This song is epic
from his heart I wish that I could hold you...one more time to ease the pain from the heart he has been there ..this song was written after he lost his little boy so its heartfelt
Such A Beautiful song... The pain Eric has gone through makes 🎵 we all can relate too..
I'm not sure how he does it, but that stratocaster actually cries.
Midwest Hot Rods & Muscle Cars Eric has always said what he cannot do with his voice he knows he can do with his guitar.
Midwest Hot Rods & Muscle Cars 9
He’s been known to make a guitar gently weep
Just marvellous! Great song, Great touch on guitar.....thankyou Eric
My favorite Clapton song. He's got lots other great songs but this 1 is just extra special to me.
Jesus, that's beautiful.
What are you doing to us, Eric?!!! It's so incomprehensible and so magnificent! You turn our souls inside out, make us cry, and we love you for it!
Great performance, I also liked how Nathan East (who's one of the best bass players in the business) gave Eric respect at the end of the tune. Class act.

LOVE LOVE LOVE EC! Thank you for sharing your music with us.
I love his way to play that Strat.... I’ll cry because it’s so beautiful....
i started listening to this man back in high school....42 years later still am.....EC is the most amazing musician of our time ( at least for me)
Weather a pond surrounded by Lillies, maybe just a creek outlined by pebbles, or a river filled with Salt Water and Tears. that's the Music my tears would sing,,
So very, very beautiful.
I tear up thinking of the day that this man leaves us to play for his son.......
I love how he puts his heart and soul into his strumming then wen he sings he puts in no effort but it still sounds damn good!!
One of my favorite songs in concert..I remember when I first saw him perform this song.. He was really getting into the vocals; Joe Cocker type of hand movements..He was definitely feeling it that night..This is a fine version..
Where ?
Idk how he holds back from crying singing this song thinking about his son.
That's Tears In Heaven that is about his son.
The ONLY 3 time inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ..that about says it all really.
Rock and Roll hall of fame says nothing. The playing says it all.
Awesome; the guitar weeps feeling the hearts weeping pains. What a performance...!

Another Man with A GOLDEN VOICE!!! As Leonard Cohen so has Eric Clapton gotten better and more relevant to the world

Clapton is a ICON!

Each time I'm listening to this song and its solo, that's the same emotion, it sounds really so great, thank you Mister Éric ! :-)
O solo jamais ousado de imitação..Perfeito!
hell of a songwriter,no need to comment on his playing. He's simply the best!
One word.. Beatifull.... and Clapton is guitar God... his solos are so nice, so beautifull, but also professional... I love him :)
It shivers down my spine. It makes my blood run cold.
OMG!!!!!! the biggest shiver i've ever had in my life
i touched my hair to see if it has gone up
A unique ability to make that guitar sing and cry...
Beautiful. Always love this song ...Thanks
Muito Muito bom!!! Thanks for live, Sir Clapton.
love this song it is one of my favorites. the solo is just music to my ears, love it
Jesus, my heart aches, I know the pain.
simply the best live ever.
omg at his solo
my opinion is the "One More Car" version is more powerful. Billy Preston on organ really stirred Clapton's juices that night. I was fortunate to be at Staples Center during the recording. It was such a great concert we were numb for hours after it was over. Even a dozen years later, it rings in my ears.
Legend.
The man can express like no other.
He's the consummate professional. Can learn a lot from Eric.
Most soulful guitar playing ever.
so much emotion into this song. such a beautiful ballad
Un des meilleurs lives de Clapton et un de ses plus beau solo !
