Thank you for sharing. Very informative video. I had leminectomy some 50 years ago. S 1 fusion now in August it has been off and on due to head cold then had Cov test negative recently Ambulance to Hospital butt numbness severe groin pain both thighs right gate dropped. Both sides back of thigh s painfull. Need walker to walk been falling over over 5 times since bad fall 1 year ago. Didn’t want operation at my age 73 however I have no life now as I am. I have a believe I have a very good excellent Neurosurgeon who I have faith in. Just Very worried now as getting close now 19 th operation prayer all time now.
Can synovial cysts reabsorb? 2 years ago it was determined I had a cyst, but the pain somewhat subsided. Today’s MRI doesn’t indicate a cyst and my surgeon can’t seem to find anything but a slightly herniated disc. My pain is not manageable at this point and often the right butt cheek “gives out” causing me to nearly fall. Am considering seeking a second opinion but thought I’d revisit the synovial cyst possibility via TH-cam first. Thanks so very much! Wish you were located in AR, you’d have a new patient! God bless!
Thank you for your excellent question. The size of the synovial cyst can fluctuate. If you are not sure about the assessment/recommendation of the first surgeon, I recommend getting a second opinion. Wishing you good luck and good health.
May I ask the following questions, 1. was this considered minimally invasive surgery? 2. What was the recovery experience of the patient and 3. What was the age of the patient. I am in Canada but am considering getting my synovial disc at 4/5 treated in the US. I want to thank you because your video’s are superb and extremely helpful.
It is minimally-invasive in the sense that the incision was about 1.5-inch long, with minimal blood loss. The patient (mid-50s) recovered quickly, within a few weeks. As an aside, I made a video comparing the healthcare systems of US/Canada, and I am wondering what you would think about it: th-cam.com/video/1KRRttIkpGE/w-d-xo.html Thank you for your kind words, appreciate it 👍 Good luck!
I have a cyst on my L3 L4. I do have degenerative disc disease. I’ve also had two back surgeries where I have a cage and some hardware also to neck surgeries. I am finding with this cyst the inner of my lower legs are numb, and I have pain on my left and right side they’re finding the cyst on my left side but it’s affecting everything I want it removed because I hear that is the best thing to do especially with my age I’m 62 and I just don’t want it reoccurring do you agree with this?
Do over-stretched nerves in the back ever heal? Can a 72 year old correct kyphosis through exercise? Thank you, I enjoy the information on your channel.
Thank you for watching, appreciate the compliment. Compressed nerves usually recover substantially after surgery, but may not recover completely. Usually kyphosis is fixed, surgery is needed to correct it. 👍
I had synovial cyst removed back in April. Severe pain in my buttocks and down left leg(surgery was on right side). Was put on high dose of gabby. Now I’m being told I need a fusion where the cyst was removed. What are your thoughts please.
Thank you for reaching out. Obviously I cannot diagnose your condition or give you recommendations because you are not my patient. Having said that, yes, sometimes a fusion is needed to treat this condition, especially if the facet joints are degenerated and need to be removed to achieve adequate decompression. I made a video about such a patient case: th-cam.com/video/0SNfBFuLGcI/w-d-xo.html Wishing you good luck and the best of health 👍
I’m scheduled to have an ALIF and PLIF in 4 weeks to fix my L4/5-S1 discs. I have spondylitis, spondylolisthesis, and spondylolysis. Neurosurgeons, all 3 of them confirmed this. I’m in my late 40s and concerned about recovery. But also having second thoughts if I should go for it.
I have this issue right now. I can’t sleep on my sides or stomach. I can’t sit. I have to stand to eat and work. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. It hurts to breathe. Pain in my buttock, radiates down the leg with burning, tingling, and numbness. Specialty appointments are so long to wait for.
Good question. Standing MRIs are indeed available, but very few MRI facilities have them installed. They do give additional information compared to normal (supine) MRIs, especially when it comes to alignment.
Excellent video ……superb explanation and treatment
Thank you for your kind words, much appreciated.

Sorry, I meant to say synovial cyst rather than disc.

I have pain in my bottom when I sit down
Why aren't MRI' done when the person in pain is standing up.
