In Sword/Shield (base game) there was another method known as the "ko method" in which after you battle (faint or capture) 500 of a specific species, you would get both an increase chance to get brilliant pokemon which have the yellow aura (up to 3%) and an increase chance that said brilliant pokemon would be shiny
The SOS method in Sun and Moon (not the Ultras) are quite bad because you only reach the max boosted odds at 70 KO and the odds would reset in at 250 KO but the Ultra games fix those issues
To add to the Let’s GO Catch Combo, the next Pokémon that spawns with the increased odds will be of the species you’re combo-ing, not any species in the area. What’s crazy is I’ve had several instances I’m CC-ing a Pokémon and another species spawns shiny, with the implication that it’s full odds. That means I’ve found several full odds shiny non-target Pokémon before the reduced odds one I’m targeting 😐. Just my luck.
Only thing I'd change is that I consider PLA S-tier just because of how enjoyable it is hearing the chime and seeing the stars pop up. Instant dopamine hit every time.
The one singular thing that messes with me is that I have to keep my headphones on at all times while playing PLA, in SV I can kinda put on music while I hunt but PLA I gotta lock in if sparkles could appear-
Yes gamefreak needs to consider people’s feeling when theyre playing the game, like PLA is not even the easiest to shiny hunt but its the funnest! Gamefreak should make fun to play game features, not making it easier or harder
In Let’s Go, you actually do have to keep continually catching Pokémon in your chain to get the boosted odds, they only apply to the next spawn of that species in the overworld. It’s a common misconception that the odds are permanently applied as long as you have a 31+ chain.
Was painful to find out that I just full odds hunted a snorlax, and I didn’t find out until I had been hunting for a porygon for 3 hours and was getting annoyed and looked it up
Gen 6 was truly the best generation to shiny hunt imo. Between XY and ORAS, you had SO many methods and so many different mons to get Thanks again for including my DexNav Skitty
The ending made me cry! One of my best shiny moments was hatching a shiny noibat the same day my dog passed away in pokemon go, I named it after my dog.
Legends should be S+ ranking. Not only does it have MMO, MO, and Shiny Charm, but the sound makes it easier to spot the shiny, and the sound itself is as exciting as the sparkling itself.
Great and informative! I had no idea about Gen 2 with the shiny ditto method! My personal favorite shiny hunting method is Mass outbreaks in scarlet and violet with shiny charm! It’s helped me get several shinies
My favorite will forever be Gen 7's new method. SOS chaining increased the IV odds as well as shiny odds so it made both competitive and shiny mon a lot closer to obtaining in one go. It might take the same amount of time as other methods to find a shiny but you could also do it all in one encounter! I still use a lot of my Gen 7 favorites for breeding and battle
You didn't mention the Odd Egg in Crystal, which has a 14% chance of hatching a shiny Baby Pokemon. So if you wanted a specific one you could save before obtaining the Odd Egg, hatch it and soft reset if you didn't get the one you wanted and keep trying. I specifically hunted for shiny Tyrogue and got it after about 100 hatches.
Hey man, love your videos. Keep them up. You and Austinjohn do a lot of research and experiments. I really appreciate that you put all the work into them. Thank you!
Pokémon Let's GO Pikachu was a blast to shiny hunt in. However! One of my best shiny Pokémon finds of all time was the gift Squirtle in Vermillion in those games. I was NOT shiny hunting it. I just wanted it for my team. Lo and behold that Squirtle was a shiny! Full odds, completely random, first encounter! I was SHOOK!!
Thank you for your comment! You're absolutely right; the Poke Radar was indeed introduced in Generation 4 with Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, as well as in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Many players have a strong preference for the Gen 4 Radar due to its unique mechanics and nostalgia. It's great to see different opinions on shiny hunting methods!
This is an amazing video and exactly what I am looking for. My personal favourite is SOS battle as it gives potential high IVs, hidden abilities and Sync can work. Shame it only appeared in the 7th Gen. Dex Nav is awesome as well but it requires a bit more attention. As of shiny hunting legendaries I find ultra wormhole or ORAS a lot more effective than Dynamax Adventures.
@@PhillyBeatzU I am doing my double shiny legendaries hunts right now. Dynamax Adventure I am 44/47 now, with the 1st one showed up back in January. I am also doing the ultra wormhole hunt now, I am exactly a month in and currently hunting my 11th. Hopefully I can get all I need before Z-A comes out
Watching this after scoring Shiny Tapu Lele in a Dynamax Adventure justifies that I'll be suffering for a while fushing for both the Swords of Justice & whatever Sword version provides as a final boss at the end of a Dynamax Adventure.
Great video my dude! Just one note. Sadly Let's go you have to continue the chain. The increased shiny odds only apply to that very first spawn right after your previous catch. Everything after that is back to full odds. Anubis did a whole breakdown of how everyone had this keep it at 31 catch combo around the release of PLA. I'm currently at over 600 chain on a Venonat on a Shiny Badge quest in those games due to this.
This is not exactly true. While any Shiny Pokémon gives a massive shiny boost, only certain cases will be truly 1/64. The chances applies only to the offspring that has the shiny parent's opposite gender, making it a 1/128 chance because of the 50/50 gender ratio of most Pokémon, or a 1/85 with a 75% male species, and a 1/256 with a 25% female species. Then there's the heavily male skewed gender ratios which can get a bit wonky, but basically Pokémon that are 87.5% to be male also get the true 1/64 if the female partner has a "shiny gene" (stats that the game picks which can make an egg shiny), since for some reason shiny females are impossible to get on a Pokémon that's 12.5% to be female... it is a bit of a mess. The easiest way to get a completely 1/64 chance across the board is Ditto, like the video states, which is also easy to obtain with a glitch on Gen 1 and the Red Gyarados.
This was an absolutely amazing video!! Loved watching these hunts happen dude! I’m doing a Sapphire DTQ rn and this got me sooo excited to go through it! Only on the hunt for my second target so far but I’m pumped!!
Legends arceus is rated too low and swsh is rated too high. Outside of masuda and dynamax asventure (which usually takes about 20 minutes) its a slow way to hunt
I’ve shiny hunted mostly in SV and yeah I won’t lie I don’t even get excited when I get a shiny I just kind of expect it. If I have to remake the sand which I just get annoyed
I’ve never understood the whole “this method devalues shiny Pokémon” argument. What one considered valuable is up to the individual. One may find value in doing it full odds in older games, one with XY odds, Masada method shiny Pokémon, etc. For me personally I’ve only gone out of my way to shiny hunt two Pokémon in SV, those being Dratini (which I got within the first few encounters) and Clefairy (which took forever). Though I definitely prefer just random shiny Pokémon I don’t even hunt for. There’s always a thrill to wandering thru the worlds and just seeing one pop up
I totally get where you’re coming from! The value of shiny Pokémon really is subjective, and it’s all about what makes the hunt fun for you. Those random encounters can definitely bring a thrill that’s hard to beat! Congrats on snagging that Dratini so quickly and good luck with the Clefairy grind-sounds like quite the adventure! Happy hunting!
You can still add friends with your 3ds so you can get your friend safari ! (yes online not only local) but now that people can't go online, you will only get 2 pokemon and not the third one, but still work !
the problem with shiny hunting in S/V is not just the lack of a sound cue. it's that even if you do find a shiny, none of the IV's are guaranteed to be good or maxed. so sadly the masuda method is the only real way for it to be guaranteed.
Chaining is actually a shiny odd method in Gen 8 but it's a lot more subtle. I've never tried this myself but as your "number encountered" raises for a given mon your odds of getting a brilliant Pokémon increase, which have a significantly higher chance to be shiny. How significant? I forgot, I didn't really play Gen 8 😂😂
Full odds shiny hunting is still the best. The thrill I get after hunting days, weeks, months, and/or even years is amazing. Also some of these games have better shiny forms such as when you upload a shiny Espeon into Stadium 2 where it becomes mint colored. Not intentionally, but in SV, I was trying to find a female Salandit to evolve and after defeating 300 males, I found a shiny at full odds and it was female with a speed benefiting nature.
Totally agree! The Masuda method in Sword and Shield is super fun, especially with all the breeding mechanics they’ve added. It definitely makes shiny hunting a blast! What’s your favorite shiny you’ve gotten using that method?
@PhillyBeatzU oh man favorite is a hard choice! Probably one of the first that I got. I had a Larvitar breeject in a safari ball traded to me over wonder trade so I masuda hunted a shiny safari ball Larvitar! Now they are a Tyranitar! One of my favorites!
Im not sure if I'm remembering this correctly, but I'm pretty sure Anubis revealed a little while ago that the shiny charm actually DOES affect the Friend Safari
Pokemon x is the game i fully dived into it properly i completed the dex and shiny hunted a lot (i really thought 3 boxes full of shinies was a lot im now on 8 boxes in violet about to start a 9th) i cant wait for za to hopefully relice some of the found memories
@@PhillyBeatzU It's funny, I went back to my 3DS to play something recently and I still have a ton of friends that added me to hunt for shiny Eevee in my Safari lol
Putting Let’s Go in C tier is delusional! It’s the best shiny hunting game. Also you are wrong on two counts. You had to keep catching the pokemon you wanted to hunt. The odds only applied to the very next one of that species that spawned and if you didn’t catch it, the odds would simply not apply further. Though the chain remains, so every subsequent catch would apply the boosted odds to a pokemon. Also when you keep catching a pokemon, they become easier to catch, meaning they wouldn’t break the chain anymore. Plus every pokemon has a specific animation before fleeing, so you can run from the encounter yourself, guaranteeing that you would not break your catch combo.
Personally USUM are my favorite game to shiny hunt. Solely because shining hunting legendary is the best. And RNG Manip is easier in this game as well 😅. I’ll use ScVi for normal Pokémon.
There's also the dark grass in Gen 5 that has double spawns and the double hunting in Gen 4 with certain trainers you escort. I also think BDSP improved the PokeRadar by making the shaking grass permanent, but that's my opinion.
Btw: 1:100 in SwSh is not thaaaaat great as it sounds. If you are unlucky, you can do 300 raids and (besides "small" shinys) you still don't get the legendary. (im right now on Tapu-Fini still after 248 raids.) Doesn't Sound much, but if you compare the time itself: 4000 resets a 20sec ~ 22h 100 Raids a 15min ~ 25h
The dex nav in OrAs is not bad, but I do get startled by the shadow and the noise if I put it on normal volume. I like it tho because of different pokemon of different regions get to be in those areas after the main game
i just started my first ever pokemon game todday in sword and shield, do yall think it is worth going through violet to shiny hunt in there? ( i have the game ) or buying the DLC for sword and shield and shiny hunt there?
It's Scarlet Violet S+ tier and it's not even close. There's a reason shiny hunting exploded in popularity. Hardcore shiny hunters are frankly desensitized to bad game mechanics that the avg player is not. Almost no one is willing to sit and press a button for hours or days with no sense of progression for a prize that isnt guaranteed. And with the exception of SV, thats what shiny hunting is. But in SV, theres for the first time something that resembles a valid gameplay loop in a reasonable amount of time that yields shinies. It's no wonder it has broad appeal.
ORAS dex nav Provides Bonuses at 50 and100 only and the chance of a shiny is retroactive based on lifetime encounters of a species at maxed out at 999 skitty seen in lifetime with shiny charm you have a 1/173 chance of seeing a shiny and at 50 you have 1/99 for one encounter at 100 you have 1/56 chance for one encounter I am an expert shiny hunter not a youtuber just giving my knowledge
I have been finding shiny pokemon in pokemon violet easier. But I hardly ever use a sandwich. Yes I use outbreaks, I don't count to 60. I do knock out so many and then set up a picnic. No sandwich. Sometimes I find a shiny at the start of an outbreak. I find making sandwiches reduces my chances.
Sword and Shield has to be the worst since the odds improved. Dynamax adventures is great for legendaries but if you want to hunt a specific normal Pokémon the literal best choice is masuda method which takes forever. The brilliant Pokémon method takes so much longer
Him: Shiny methods! This that blah blah blah! Me: 25 shinies, all natural encounters (all but shiny vaporeon traded from my dad, and shiny rayquaza from an event)
false information here: only the third slot in the friend safari in x&y isnt available anymore if your system has access to the internet (the local mode also works but i doubt you know enough ppl that still have a 3ds nearby) you can just add ppl like before since you cant connect to the servers ingame tho the 3rd slot is locked but the 1st and 2nd are still available for me this is even more useful since my targets are mainly in the 1st and 2nd slot so i have a 50% chance of not phasing for my target while you would have a 33% chance of not phasing w 3 slots available also nice to note: oras also had chainfishing :)
Oops, you made the tier list upsidedown! 😏 For me, its about the journey to find my shiny target. If you get the shiny too fast, you have no story to tell! 1/8192 best odds 💖 Great vid, man!
Sv is the fastest and easiest to hunt in all mine are done without sandwiches all just outbreak and random it is nice going back to older games I am hunting legendary in swsh
Totally get what you mean! Legends Arceus has some awesome shiny hunting mechanics, and X & Y definitely brought some fun methods to the table too. It's cool to see how different games offer unique experiences for shiny hunters! What’s your favorite shiny you’ve caught in those games?
You could technically consider RNG Manipulation as a “method” for the older games, but that’s definitely a daunting challenge for new players to learn.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus is my shiny farm 😂. there's more to the odds it is easier than most of all no doubt if y'ask me it is better than Scarlet/Violet shiny methods as fighting 6-7 tera raids just for the herba mystica is really hard for a guy without NSOnline and friends to play with like me.
I still play it everyday since I bought right after launching. It even made me hooked on to online battles and shiny hunting which I never thought of doing in the previous games ❤️
Before watching I would predict that for regular Pokémon I would say PLA and S/V have to be the top. It is absolutely stupid how easy it is to get a full shiny pokédex. But of course both of those games suck for legendaries (aside from paradoxes). For legendaries I would say US/UM because the wormholes have good odds and the reset time to soft reset on the 3DS is waaaaaay lower than any of the switch games. Now let's see if I was right!
Ok and now some comments: Dynamax Adventures seem great at first glance, but are perhaps the most miserable experience of all shiny hunting methods. Something a lot of people do not consider heavily enough when shiny hunting is 'time to reset.' They take an eternity compared to other methods (like 20-30 minutes with animations turned off) for one shot at a legendary, and then you do it again. AND there is no guarantee during that that you will even be successful, especially if you play with the AI who are literally the most frustratingly programmed decision makers I have ever seen, spamming speed swap or electric terrain every SINGLE turn and effectively doing nothing. Hunting shiny Zygarde in that game is worse than most forms of medieval torture. This is why it is ALWAYS better to play a game with a quick reset method like S/V where you can swap out spawns by running away and running back. It doesn't matter if the odds were 20x worse, it would still be faster because of how many encounters you can get in. Egg hatch timing is important as well because sometimes Masuda method becomes a good option. S/V MM is not too bad because of how quickly you can swap in new eggs to hatch from a box and get to running around again. Efficient shiny hunting is always a combination of odds versus the time you need to put in to get those odds, and it's why it's kinda hard to beat S/V. Also it was discovered a while back that the Let's Go P+E consecutive catch method didn't work like that. The shinies people encountered at that specific number were coincidental, as it only affected the first singular spawn on the map, and the idea was to keep going with the chain.
How do you just breeze past Poke Radar chaining in BDSP????? That is literally the best shiny hunting method in the entire Pokemon franchise, and you didn't even mention it?? This guide is trash. Dislike.
@PhillyBeatzU Poke Radar chaining in BDSP was made significantly easier compared to the version of Poke Radar chaining in DPP and XY. Add to that the sheer number of different species that could be hunted, AND the amount of shinies you could get from just one successful chain, AND the fact that you don't need the Shiny Charm makes it the best shiny hunting method in the entire franchise. I got over 60 shiny Dunsparces over several chains, including 20 in one chain alone. I then transferred all of them to Violet and evolved them until I got a Three-Segment Dudunsparce. Compare how long it would take to get 60+ shinies of a single species using literally any other method. There you go. Doesn't matter if it's new, all that matters is efficiency and effectiveness.
Sv is the fastest and easiest to hunt in all mine are done without sandwiches all just outbreak and random it is nice going back to older games I am hunting legendary in swsh

Soft reset hunts too
Im not sure if I'm remembering this correctly, but I'm pretty sure Anubis revealed a little while ago that the shiny charm actually DOES affect the Friend Safari
Pokemon x is the game i fully dived into it properly i completed the dex and shiny hunted a lot (i really thought 3 boxes full of shinies was a lot im now on 8 boxes in violet about to start a 9th) i cant wait for za to hopefully relice some of the found memories
Shiny charm + sandwich is the best! lol love this gens method and odds
I know, its the easiest way to shiny hunt so far!
I really miss Friend Safari!
Yes me too!
Nostalgic video! Enjoyed it a lot :) Also curious what song was used 8:14 for the omega ruby section?
The Dexnav from omega ruby is my favorite feature in all of pokemon simple and so satisfying to use
1 in 64?! Are you kidding me?! Im dropping what im doing to replay gen 2 so i can give this a try.
Have you gotten it yet
Personally USUM are my favorite game to shiny hunt. Solely because shining hunting legendary is the best. And RNG Manip is easier in this game as well 😅. I’ll use ScVi for normal Pokémon.
I've always loved hunting legendaries! 😁
There's also the dark grass in Gen 5 that has double spawns and the double hunting in Gen 4 with certain trainers you escort. I also think BDSP improved the PokeRadar by making the shaking grass permanent, but that's my opinion.
I totally forgot about the Dark Grass! It's a real game changer
@@PhillyBeatzU Yeah, it was.
Btw: 1:100 in SwSh is not thaaaaat great as it sounds. If you are unlucky, you can do 300 raids and (besides "small" shinys) you still don't get the legendary.
(im right now on Tapu-Fini still after 248 raids.)
Doesn't Sound much, but if you compare the time itself:
4000 resets a 20sec ~ 22h
100 Raids a 15min ~ 25h
I put about 100 hours into dynamax adventures and never pulled a shiny. I am calling it there.
Wow! Not 1 shiny??
@ not even a sprinkle!
The dex nav in OrAs is not bad, but I do get startled by the shadow and the noise if I put it on normal volume. I like it tho because of different pokemon of different regions get to be in those areas after the main game
Thankyou ✌🏼
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Do the same ranking but for breeding mechanics
mimikyu on the thumbnail is criminal
100% shiny location videos for Indigo Disk any time soon? 😬
Your profile pic makes me wanna do it
i just started my first ever pokemon game todday in sword and shield, do yall think it is worth going through violet to shiny hunt in there? ( i have the game ) or buying the DLC for sword and shield and shiny hunt there?
I had a dark type safari with pawniard, Absol and Sandile
It's Scarlet Violet S+ tier and it's not even close. There's a reason shiny hunting exploded in popularity. Hardcore shiny hunters are frankly desensitized to bad game mechanics that the avg player is not. Almost no one is willing to sit and press a button for hours or days with no sense of progression for a prize that isnt guaranteed. And with the exception of SV, thats what shiny hunting is. But in SV, theres for the first time something that resembles a valid gameplay loop in a reasonable amount of time that yields shinies. It's no wonder it has broad appeal.
Also got shiny deoxys in leaf green 8 Sr the day before I got the rayquaza
ORAS dex nav Provides Bonuses at 50 and100 only and the chance of a shiny is retroactive based on lifetime encounters of a species at maxed out
at 999 skitty seen in lifetime with shiny charm you have a 1/173 chance of seeing a shiny and
at 50 you have 1/99 for one encounter
at 100 you have 1/56 chance for one encounter
I am an expert shiny hunter not a youtuber just giving my knowledge
If you don’t know how ranking works then don’t rank
9:16 So that's why it took 530 encounters for a ralts LOL
Lmfao
@@PhillyBeatzU Yeah I'm not a smart guy I guess
For pokemon scarlet and violet made easier i have over 200 pokemon. Arceus and scarlet and violet are the best for me. Im enjoying them😂
Easy ways to honestly fill the shiny dex
scrlet and violet is the best game to shiny hunt in
Easy shiny!!!
Just got shiny rayquaza in shield new game 6th random raid no charm and now it's coming in sv 5star raid soon
How is 1/64 chance of hatching a shiny D tier?
its take a long time
false information here:
only the third slot in the friend safari in x&y isnt available anymore
if your system has access to the internet (the local mode also works but i doubt you know enough ppl that still have a 3ds nearby) you can just add ppl like before
since you cant connect to the servers ingame tho the 3rd slot is locked but the 1st and 2nd are still available
for me this is even more useful since my targets are mainly in the 1st and 2nd slot so i have a 50% chance of not phasing for my target while you would have a 33% chance of not phasing w 3 slots available
also nice to note: oras also had chainfishing :)
Thanks! I'll add the correction!
Oops, you made the tier list upsidedown! 😏
For me, its about the journey to find my shiny target. If you get the shiny too fast, you have no story to tell! 1/8192 best odds 💖
Great vid, man!
I respect it, but I just want to find those shinies fast! lol
16:01 or if you are colourblind.
Sv is the fastest and easiest to hunt in all mine are done without sandwiches all just outbreak and random it is nice going back to older games I am hunting legendary in swsh
BDSP in C? Nokimon says otherwise
Woah woah woah slow down, Legends is easily the best for shiny hunts, then x & y.
Totally get what you mean! Legends Arceus has some awesome shiny hunting mechanics, and X & Y definitely brought some fun methods to the table too. It's cool to see how different games offer unique experiences for shiny hunters! What’s your favorite shiny you’ve caught in those games?
I thought shiny charm was added in gen 5 though
It was
You could technically consider RNG Manipulation as a “method” for the older games, but that’s definitely a daunting challenge for new players to learn.
Yeah it's a lot haha
Pokemon Legends: Arceus is my shiny farm 😂. there's more to the odds it is easier than most of all no doubt if y'ask me it is better than Scarlet/Violet shiny methods as fighting 6-7 tera raids just for the herba mystica is really hard for a guy without NSOnline and friends to play with like me.
Totally agree, Legends Arceus is a shiny hunter's dream!
I think Kiloude is pronounced like cloud
can you do the same video but for legendaires pls ?! No one did it actually thx u
We all know what the #1 preferred shiny hunting method is
lol pkhex?
PLA = S Tier
Violet = A Tier
Thats not how catch combo works in lets go
Shiny pity boost? 😔
Putting all gen 2-5 in f was sloppy and lazy, you didn't talk about the radar and chaining they introduced in gen 4
Pokémon scarlet and violet is a good game
If its optimization were better I'd say it's far and away my favorite
I don’t hate it haha
I still play it everyday since I bought right after launching. It even made me hooked on to online battles and shiny hunting which I never thought of doing in the previous games ❤️
bro yk thats not how catch chains work is lets go P/E
check pinned commentes
Before watching I would predict that for regular Pokémon I would say PLA and S/V have to be the top. It is absolutely stupid how easy it is to get a full shiny pokédex. But of course both of those games suck for legendaries (aside from paradoxes). For legendaries I would say US/UM because the wormholes have good odds and the reset time to soft reset on the 3DS is waaaaaay lower than any of the switch games.
Now let's see if I was right!
Ok and now some comments:
Dynamax Adventures seem great at first glance, but are perhaps the most miserable experience of all shiny hunting methods.
Thanks for sharing this Zynnix! Reading everything you wrote is insane to see about shiny hunting
Spanish speaking viewer here, just to point the spanish dub is really bad
🔥
Shiny hunting woooo
Wow
How do you just breeze past Poke Radar chaining in BDSP????? That is literally the best shiny hunting method in the entire Pokemon franchise, and you didn't even mention it?? This guide is trash. Dislike.
Poke Radar is mehhhhhhhhh. It didn’t really do anything new
@PhillyBeatzU Poke Radar chaining in BDSP was made significantly easier compared to the version of Poke Radar chaining in DPP and XY.

It's great to hear that you've had success with shiny hunting in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet! The outbreak method can indeed make it much easier to find shinies, and it's always fun to revisit older games for legendary hunts. Best of luck with your shiny adventures in Sword and Shield!
@PhillyBeatzU just got shiny deoxys last week sat down turned ds on and 8 Sr shiny and it took me over 2 hours trying to catch it
