Pro tip: when using driveway alarms, get two that are setup one before the other a ways. The reason is 1 chime going off on one could be a moose, cat, or bird. 1 chime going then the other means someone is intentionally coming down the driveway.
We learned in the military, when setting up a perimeter you should place your trips far enough away to give yourself ample response time... if you are in a wooded area etc. using 4 different string lines (NSEW) will give you an indication of what direction your intruder is coming from... beverage cans with pebbles on the primary, then claymore mines, for a secondary perimeter...
I have a few of the 12 gauge alarms wired up & I hot glued an OC powder paintball round on top of the shells. When they go off it makes a huge inescapable pepper dust cloud. I currently live in NYC so I have 2 of them set up to go off if the door to my back gate is opened. 🤙🏼🇺🇸

We used to cut through a farmers field to go fishing. The old guy had alarms too, mainly Granada tops with timers. We’d find them too and just step over the wire. One day he was waiting for us…..having to hide the pain and wounds from rock salt in my leg from my parents was the next challenge lol that stuff HURT!

I'm just impressed that your woman can drive in reverse without hitting something. My wife has hit three things while backing out. She hit a tree, a pole, and a classic triumph motorcycle. Two of those times were in vehicles that I restored.
These devices accomplish a couple things: A) They notify you that the boogeyman has arrived. B) They also notify the boogeyman that YOU are now aware of their presence, YOU are now taking cover, YOU now have a gun and YOU now have the advantage. Properly utilized, you have a serious force multiplier. These tools should be installed out at the further perimeter line. Use a different type at each level or zone. This will allow you to place their distance without exposing yourself. And remember...during an event, all inside lighting is OFF while all exterior lighting is ON. This process paints the perp with light while you remain concealed in the darkness behind the windows. Blessings...and dial 911 if possible.
Dial 911 afterwards: so they can do the paperwork and cleanup, which is the only thing they can do right half the time. They will never arrive in time to help anyway.
I have one one of those 12 gauge alarms. I have mine pointed towards the ground, just to be extra safe. Having said that, it just occurred to me that one can use multiple alarms on the same trip wire; lots of different surprising but harmless flashes and bangs. Make the bad guys think they're being fired at from all sides while making sure all the good guys wake up.
You can honestly go to a dollar store and grab some confetti poppers as well. It would be pretty funny seeing someone try to run away covered in confetti and glitter
When I was a child I set up a ton of these with party poppers all over my house to scare my family whenever they walked into different rooms. I can still hear them cursing from the hallway at me while I laughed.

Great info. I have a couple homemade devises using motion lights and a radio to scare critters out of garden. I take out one of the two bulbs. Screw in a light socket plugin adapter. Hook radio to plugin adapter make sure it's on a good station and turned up loud. I have radio inside a box on post to protect it from weather. As they come into garden area the motion sensor sees them and turns on light and radio. Scares the hell out of critters. And with a good motion light you can set it to stay on for short time or longer time. And have it only work after dusk. I have been working out trying to make a scarecrow move by the same idea. Just need to figure out the mechanics of it so it looks like a person moving in garden when activated. You could also use this idea to alert you of someone arriving. Omit the light and run an extension cord from motion light plugin adapter to inside your house. It could turn on a radio or a light in the house to inform you of their presence and will not alert them that you know they are there. Hope this helps someone keep garden safe or your home.
Harbor Freight sells driveway alarms cheap and they work a long way and through buildings. I have one set up to the rear entrance of my shop, other side of the building and about 175ft distant, works like a charm.
I just found a use for all my Aguila Mini hulls, I load BP shotshells for fun, I could load a light charge and over shot card. It should make a nice bang.. 😎
I'm watching your video right now and it is some great information I truly appreciate you teaching this. My go to poor Man's way is a door or window security device that beeps whenever you open them I put a magnet on the large core and the metal strip sticks to it that is tied with 30 lb test fishing line and I can cover large area. When the string is tripped it pulls the magnet away from the washer and sets off the device with a loud beeping I set these around my camp so I know which way has been tripped. Go to your local police station. Tell them what you want the tops for. Perimeter alarms. Flash bangs have the same tops as grenades. After a training session those just go in the trash.
Great alarms, I live in Colombia for 298 years in my fa I use a hand made alarm using a 12 GA. Round taking out the lead pellets firing device standard rat trap, drilled block of wood to fit the round, very loud effective. Firing pin, nail in rat trap to set off primer.
A suggestion:. On the alarm that sounds off when the light stream is interrupted, have different sounds. If one has multiple installations of this product, use different chimes for each location. Memorize each one. This will indicate the direction of the intrusion. Also be nice to your cat.
The video shows these selling for $79, but Walmart has them for $39. But my question is: What is the purpose of the 120v wall plug? Does the indoor alarm require constant voltage, or does it have a battery that can be charged up and then hung without being plugged into the wall? Thanks for any help.
There is an electronics company in Australia called Jaycar, they sell heaps of electronic kits aimed at hobbyists so you only need a soldering iron to assemble yourself. I bought a laser trip kit that only cost $20 AUD, an alarm goes off if the laser is broken and runs off a 9v battery. I'm sure you could find something similar on eBay.
Rabbits are amazing creatures you can litter train them and they will sleep curled up in your belly and can hear better than dogs they will wake you up and not make a sound doing it And their litter box contents makes excellent fertilizer.
You missed the classic version of this type of alarm. It has four legs and barks when intruders come near. It can see very well in the dark, can inflict damage if the threat doesn't leave, and is nice to have around. Woof!

Good info, thanks. I did install one of the driveway sensor alarms. My driveway is 600' long and 400' of it can't be seen from my house. It does work well and I mounted it waste high so cats don't trip it, but we have deer tripping sometimes at night. I did go ahead and order some of those trip alarms. I'll set those up, but not arm them until they are needed.
Haven't seen your whole vid yet, but before I forget, When out in the woods, we used to use fishing string around the camp perimeter, then single strands radiating in to the center of camp, and clip on a fishing bell.. Much like a spider web.
perfect timing. We were just probed Sunday 4am. Got it all on video. Now with one of these primer type devices let them know that I know. We do have the door bell thing on the back lot. Works well. Even the dog knows ~ true.
In the army we used a FAL bolt with a blank clipped into the extractor, and hung it hooked over door or a branch with the back of a firing pin towards the ground, rigged so it will drop when the wire is disturbed. When it dropped, it fell on the firing pin and set off the blank. Fun and games during training.
You guys had FALs? We only had m4a1 with acogs and peq15. What kinda leader lets a rifle be taken apart for parts to use as a tripwire? Thats asking for at minimum a good yelling at by the CSM. I think thats called a force divider iirc.

We would be caught sometimes loafing under a tree, when questioned wtf we are doing there? It often sufficed to mention "they" said we must wait here. I use the string poppers with 50 lb Spider Wire fishing line. Note that you can tape the popper to a balloon for extra effect. Take all the shot and wad out of a shotgun shell and fill it with powdered red pepper. Makes a nice little cloud.
These are good for home entry alarms but keep in mind that they will be set off very often causing false alarms if you live in the country from deer and other critters tripping them. If this were in a SHTF situation these false alarms would bring unwanted attention to your location, if it were a secluded location you were in that would essentially blow your cover alerting others that something is there.
Well if SHTF I’m going to assume you’re smart enough to make some kind of fence around your property to keep out said critters AND unwanted intruders in unison with the trip alarms

I have those driveway alarms and put one on the driveway and one on the actual road that I own both sides of. That way I know if I am getting a visitor or if it's a potential trespasser. Used to get treaspassers all the time after a few weeks of checking every time it goes off treaspassers are no longer a problem.

I used to install Optex PEC beam alarms. Great for your home alarm system. They make them to cover several distances up to 800 ft. I believe. Great for arming a yard or property perimeter.
Something to consider to add to your perimeter defense are some pulleys, so that can configure the trip wire so that the flash goes off in front of the adversary thus taking advantage of the disorientation of the flash especially at night, the flash bag typically will take away the adversaries night vision for a few seconds, especially if untrained. Might buy you enough time to get the upper hand.
I agree. I have the fith ops 12 gauge unit with the 209 adapter. I have it set up at ear level to disorient anybody that happens to trip it. Including myself, Once. It works great.......
I would add that I used a screw in stainless steel eyelet thingy for a lack of a better term. A simple nail would work too, but I had the eyelet screw available.
Cans line your perimeter with cans so they clank together. A few pebbles inside each can will make them louder. Learn how to make small rabbit traps to start: Snare, deadfall, pit and bow: advance to making them larger. With time and practice, practice, practice, there will be nothing you can't make. Edit: also learn how to use your terrain to your advantage. Be creative yet practical. For the long haul, something like planting blackberries around your perimeter, with a maze entrance, could stop even the unlikely zombie hoard. This will also provide a source of food. The advantage of using natural materials can also make your post invisible to potential threats passing by.
Decided to go with FITHOPS 12ga alarm, simple and sturdy design and love you can go from a 209 primer all the way to a 12ga flare,blank or oc round.For long term deployment a squirt of wd40 down the firing pin housing keeps it all good
You can use those hilti shots in the rat traps instead of pistol primers. The primers are center fire while the hilti shot is rim fire, perfect for rat traps
i have devices similar to the Sentry Alarm Mine attached to the windows and doors inside my home. Mine are home-made, and also use those rimfire nail driver blanks.
They would also mean setting them up late at night & taking them down early in the morning. At that point just get some security cameras like Arlo or something. It'll alert your phone. These are moreso meant for WROL/SHTF

I have one of the 12ga blanks on my back door with a loop around the door knob. Whenever I take the trash out, I just pull the loop off the knob, and reset when I come inside.
@@Aglai76 These have their place, my friend. They can be effective as far out as 1/4 mile and they can launch secondary measures such as signal flares or exposure flares. Aaaaand...there are no batteries to go bad. Best of all, these alarms will wake the pooch up while the perp is still a good distance away. The bottom line is this: Do whatever works best for you and your family. Alarms don't work if they are neither installed...nor set to function. Protecting one's family should be the overriding priority for every man...always.

30-pound black "spider wire" type fishing line is nearly invisible located near the ground and has virtually no stretch. Wire is great but a bit easier to see and the paint will often reflect direct light. Monofilament line does not work well with the smoke caps and is also easier to see than the "Spider Wire"...day or night. I might add that the heavier weight line is HIGHLY recommended. Those cotter pins do not come nearly as easy as one might think, even with grease. Some stainless finish nails actually work better in that regard.
Don't forget the simple lightweight, cheap and resettable pull pin rape alarm. As they have no explosives in them, so they can be purchased, carried and deployed legally anywhere in the world. Not only can they be used for trip wires but with the aid of a short length of fishing line and a couple of thumbtacks, I've also used then to alarm doors and set them to go off if anyone moves a backpack that I've left in a room.
Not sure if there a big thing in the states but in Aus i used too gut string pull party poppers of their streamers and attach it to a tent peg and use fishing wire to another tent peg and carry about 6 with me when i would do cadets. occasionally I would set them up in blind spots in our picket line so if we were tested in the middle of the night we had some warning. very cheap to make and set up.
Good alert for bears, 4 legged and 2 legged ones that have no business violating your rights in order to perform their so called duties.Also good for scaring the crap out of trespassers and potential no good vermin criminals.would be good if it would also discharge a paint or pepper spray so you could identify the guilty party.Also go to your local dollar store and pick up some of those cheap electronic alarms with the magnets. Glue your trip wire onto the magnet so that if it gets separated the alarm will go off. Easy cheap and noisy. The batteries can get expensive over time.and as always trail cameras and proximity sensors and motion detectors

Those laser driveway laser things are a great idea. I had an idea for something similar didn't know it existed already. Something you could put in every corner of your yard. Each pair with a different alarm sound, so you know which alarm laser has been crossed. Wonder if they make them already.. Basically like the driveway thingy he had but different.
Not really SHTF stuff, but solar powered motion activated lights are great. They are relatively inexpensive and serve the purpose of lighting up pieces where you walk and alerting you if something is in that area. Add security cameras and DIY equipment to the mix as you see fit. There are so many options for security cameras with them starting under $40, there's not really an excuse not to have them surrounding your property. In these SHTF videos, I'm always expecting pungi traps or some medieval looking stuff. I'm picturing all the stuff from Predator and First Blood.
I usually see the motion lights set facing away from the "house". I was considering setting some up on stakes at a distance with the sensor facing inward. This would allow the perimeter to be set further away and avoid them being triggered if someone/animals aren't trespassing, for instance when camping. Hopefully, the outer perimeter would deter the intruder at that distance. The other nice camping advantages are, if they are staked near the ground, neighbors won't have light shining in their direction, you won't have them shining in your face, and you can use them instead of flashlights if you need to move around after dark. A secondary ring, set higher and nearer the entry points could be facing outward. The outer perimeter could be set far enough away that it isn't making your tent/house visible while interfering with the intruder 's night vision. Also, stakes would allow the lights to be repositioned so they aren't predictable.
I don't know for sure but I think a deep brass 12 gauge cut off at the top of the brass. Put in primer and a small charge and some cardboard wadding. Can be reloaded and reused. Shouldn't be a problem if you have the setup for reloaded 12 gauge shells. Not sure but I don't think it can be done without the press. I would Not put a primer in the shell without the press.
I like the idea of a whistling firework instead of a shooting sound. For many reasons. Like: You wake up and you dont know if someone is already shooting or it's an animal setting your alarm. In the middle of shooting you could miss it. It's too loud for common use. On the other hand in SHTF world an option of adding a can with black powder to a primer to cause some damage or a flash or to release gas or smoke seems alright
I wish you would make a general video on home protection. Here are a few of my ideas. A $1.50 wooden stick could save your life. One of the easiest ways for an intruder to get into your home is through your sliding glass door. Most people place a wooden stick at the bottom of the stationary side but this will do nothing to stop an experienced intruder. The door that slides open has a one-inch space on the top. The intruder will simply place their hands on the glass and lift it up. This causes the door to come off the track. They then kick in the bottom of the door making a triangle space through which to climb in through. This happened to me when I was not at home. Fortunately, my Husky met him at the door and he took off. The police came and showed me the intruder's handprints on the glass and explained how he did it. To prevent this, slide a 1/2 inch by 1 to 3 ft wooden stick in the top space of the sliding door to prevent the door from moving. I also place large solar lights high up and out of reach, secured with Gorilla tape on my porch and deck facing my doors. Lowe's sells them for 20 bucks. Third, when my dog is finished chewing his foot-long bone I leave it on my front porch to let them know my dog has big teeth. : ) Lastly, keep your car keys at your bedside at night. When you hear an intruder hit the car alarm on your fob. He likely will run away.
All you need is a cute, small dog for security. That little floof will provide alarm, love and comfort, and occasional annoyance for a small fee of: bag of dog food /per month.
My Brother in law used to go on about what great security his dogs were. I stayed at his house and found out the stupid mutts barked all day and night. I asked him if they had worked out a system, did they stop barking if there was an intruder?
I live in the country and someone keeps messing with my garage keypad. Twice they’ve left water bottles at my garage. The police said they can’t do anything unless I catch someone on camera. I’ve been trying to figure out what to do. This is helpful.
Maybe try motion activated game cameras. I work on new custom homes from the ground up. The contractor puts them in the trees around the property. Catches all activity coming and going.
Then there trying to get in. I would leave it up about a foot and pull a all nighter in side they will have a hell of a suprise when they crawl in. Stakeouts arent just in the movies lol
Motion activated lights up above the door and along the approaches will probably resolve the issue.Theyre much cheaper than cameras at 4/$25 on Amazon and Ebay. Can't afford it or don't have the skills to install a video camera? Buy a fake one for $10. It will get same result from the perp.
I was burglarized twice and figured they would come back so I ran my line out of my Bate caster across the gate walk and nailed it to the inside of my garage where I slept for three nights waiting. He was tangled up in fishing line when I "subdued" the perp 😅

I was an artillery officer and have slept through 155 Howitzers blasting 50 ft. away. I'm not sure a little cap would wake me from a dead sleep. I've seen some cool motion detection alarms for campsite on Amazon for about $30. Sorry, I don't have the link handy. Emits an alarm loud enough to scare away intruders and wake you.
I was a small arms and artillery repairman in the army and I've slept through m777s going off, but I'll wake up from someone trying to open my door or my dog getting off the bed.
Next time you put spiderwire on your baitcaster make sure you get the moss colored that stuff makes really good trip wires just so you know what's left over after you finish.
Exactly what I was thinking might be covered in the video. Something a little more stealthy and that doesn't let the detected know that you are aware of their presence.
I have that with my security cam system pieced together for less than 400 bucks. 8 cams and all inform me of movement day/night I then look at it wherever I have cel service. People,,, Get off your lazy butts and learn something. Mine was all self taught.
You know baby monitors with battery backup is a very good way for monitoring areas like your garage or anywhere in between thereof if you get the baby monitors with a 1000' range on them, I have one in my garage and one day it payed off 2 little boys saw my garage door open and decided to explore in my garage and I heard them from inside my house I scared the crap out of them but they did not take anything so that was good, but it works great.
I've used dune of those fireworks poppers that have a string and when it's pulled they pop. Very cheap too. Also some really cheap door/window alarms on eBay that is place a magnetic part to something that moves or a string with the main part being the base or parent unit with built-in high decible audible alarm when separated. These let you know, but they also let the intruder know that you likely are aware of their presence now.
Those "break circuit" alarms at Harbor Freight are about $5 for a pair. I have used those for years in apartments and houses to supplement security systems. They are loud and difficult to defeat as there is only one way to open a door. The vibration sensor version are great for windows.

I have a couple homemade devises using motion lights and a radio to scare critters out of garden. I take out one of the two bulbs. Screw in a light socket plugin adapter. Hook radio to plugin adapter make sure it's on a good station and turned up loud. I have radio inside a box on post to protect it from weather.
As they come into garden area the motion sensor sees them and turns on light and radio. Scares the hell out of critters.
And with a good motion light you can set it to stay on for short time or longer time. And have it only work after dusk.
I have been working out trying to make a scarecrow move by the same idea. Just need to figure out the mechanics of it so it looks like a person moving in garden when activated.
You could also use this idea to alert you of someone arriving. Omit the light and run an extension cord from motion light plugin adapter to inside your house. It could turn on a radio or a light in the house to inform you of their presence and will not alert them that you know they are there.

Harbor Freight sells driveway alarms cheap and they work a long way and through buildings. I have one set up to the rear entrance of my shop, other side of the building and about 175ft distant, works like a charm.

My go to poor Man's way is a door or window security device that beeps whenever you open them I put a magnet on the large core and the metal strip sticks to it that is tied with 30 lb test fishing line and I can cover large area.
When the string is tripped it pulls the magnet away from the washer and sets off the device with a loud beeping I set these around my camp so I know which way has been tripped. Thank you for letting me share this with you

Go to your local police station. Tell them what you want the tops for. Perimeter alarms. Flash bangs have the same tops as grenades. After a training session those just go in the trash.
Great alarms, I live in Colombia for 298 years in my fa I use a hand made alarm using a 12 GA. Round taking out the lead pellets firing device standard rat trap, drilled block of wood to fit the round, very loud effective. Firing pin, nail in rat trap to set off primer.
A suggestion:. On the alarm that sounds off when the light stream is interrupted, have different sounds. If one has multiple installations of this product, use different chimes for each location. Memorize each one. This will indicate the direction of the intrusion.

The video shows these selling for $79, but Walmart has them for $39. But my question is: What is the purpose of the 120v wall plug? Does the indoor alarm require constant voltage, or does it have a battery that can be charged up and then hung without being plugged into the wall? Thanks for any help.
There is an electronics company in Australia called Jaycar, they sell heaps of electronic kits aimed at hobbyists so you only need a soldering iron to assemble yourself. I bought a laser trip kit that only cost $20 AUD, an alarm goes off if the laser is broken and runs off a 9v battery. I'm sure you could find something similar on eBay.
Rabbits are amazing creatures you can litter train them and they will sleep curled up in your belly and can hear better than dogs they will wake you up and not make a sound doing it And their litter box contents makes excellent fertilizer.
Like that option, too bad I am allergic to rabbits.😕

You missed the classic version of this type of alarm. It has four legs and barks when intruders come near. It can see very well in the dark, can inflict damage if the threat doesn't leave, and is nice to have around. Woof!

Good info, thanks. I did install one of the driveway sensor alarms. My driveway is 600' long and 400' of it can't be seen from my house. It does work well and I mounted it waste high so cats don't trip it, but we have deer tripping sometimes at night. I did go ahead and order some of those trip alarms. I'll set those up, but not arm them until they are needed.
Haven't seen your whole vid yet, but before I forget, When out in the woods, we used to use fishing string around the camp perimeter, then single strands radiating in to the center of camp, and clip on a fishing bell.. Much like a spider web.

Braided fishing line works great in many applications where a strong string is needed.
I've used carpet thread and find that it's perfect as well as being inexpensive. That stuff is strong as most fishing lines.

In the army we used a FAL bolt with a blank clipped into the extractor, and hung it hooked over door or a branch with the back of a firing pin towards the ground, rigged so it will drop when the wire is disturbed. When it dropped, it fell on the firing pin and set off the blank. Fun and games during training.
You guys had FALs? We only had m4a1 with acogs and peq15. What kinda leader lets a rifle be taken apart for parts to use as a tripwire? Thats asking for at minimum a good yelling at by the CSM. I think thats called a force divider iirc.

I use the string poppers with 50 lb Spider Wire fishing line. Note that you can tape the popper to a balloon for extra effect. Take all the shot and wad out of a shotgun shell and fill it with powdered red pepper. Makes a nice little cloud.
These are good for home entry alarms but keep in mind that they will be set off very often causing false alarms if you live in the country from deer and other critters tripping them. If this were in a SHTF situation these false alarms would bring unwanted attention to your location, if it were a secluded location you were in that would essentially blow your cover alerting others that something is there.
Well if SHTF I’m going to assume you’re smart enough to make some kind of fence around your property to keep out said critters AND unwanted intruders in unison with the trip alarms

You’re not under deep cover there. So this is just somebody trying to sound smart, but are telling us something we already know, and therefore are not telling us anything at all.
Modify them to activate a switch that will turn on an interior light or alarm so as not to alert the threat. Many options if ya get yur macgyver on.
I have those driveway alarms and put one on the driveway and one on the actual road that I own both sides of. That way I know if I am getting a visitor or if it's a potential trespasser. Used to get treaspassers all the time after a few weeks of checking every time it goes off treaspassers are no longer a problem.

I used to install Optex PEC beam alarms. Great for your home alarm system. They make them to cover several distances up to 800 ft. I believe. Great for arming a yard or property perimeter.
Something to consider to add to your perimeter defense are some pulleys, so that can configure the trip wire so that the flash goes off in front of the adversary thus taking advantage of the disorientation of the flash especially at night, the flash bag typically will take away the adversaries night vision for a few seconds, especially if untrained. Might buy you enough time to get the upper hand.
I agree. I have the fith ops 12 gauge unit with the 209 adapter. I have it set up at ear level to disorient anybody that happens to trip it. Including myself, Once. It works great.......
I would add that I used a screw in stainless steel eyelet thingy for a lack of a better term. A simple nail would work too, but I had the eyelet screw available.
Especially in a true shtf situation where you can adapt the shotgun blank alarm to fire actual shotgun rounds
Cans line your perimeter with cans so they clank together. A few pebbles inside each can will make them louder.
Learn how to make small rabbit traps to start: Snare, deadfall, pit and bow: advance to making them larger. With time and practice, practice, practice, there will be nothing you can't make.
Edit: also learn how to use your terrain to your advantage. Be creative yet practical. For the long haul, something like planting blackberries around your perimeter, with a maze entrance, could stop even the unlikely zombie hoard. This will also provide a source of food.
The advantage of using natural materials can also make your post invisible to potential threats passing by.
Or just hire ninja's to live up in the tree tops with pictures of who is allowed to pass and who is not. Would be much simpler.
Decided to go with FITHOPS 12ga alarm, simple and sturdy design and love you can go from a 209 primer all the way to a 12ga flare,blank or oc round.For long term deployment a squirt of wd40 down the firing pin housing keeps it all good

You can use those hilti shots in the rat traps instead of pistol primers. The primers are center fire while the hilti shot is rim fire, perfect for rat traps
i have devices similar to the Sentry Alarm Mine attached to the windows and doors inside my home. Mine are home-made, and also use those rimfire nail driver blanks.

The bottom line is this: Do whatever works best for you and your family. Alarms don't work if they are neither installed...nor set to function.

If you’re using fishing line you high test braid or maybe even fluorocarbon. Regular mono has a lot of stretch.

Jorge O I don’t have as much experience with fluro but I don’t believe it has the stretch mono has
30-pound black "spider wire" type fishing line is nearly invisible located near the ground and has virtually no stretch. Wire is great but a bit easier to see and the paint will often reflect direct light. Monofilament line does not work well with the smoke caps and is also easier to see than the "Spider Wire"...day or night.
I might add that the heavier weight line is HIGHLY recommended. Those cotter pins do not come nearly as easy as one might think, even with grease. Some stainless finish nails actually work better in that regard.
Don't forget the simple lightweight, cheap and resettable pull pin rape alarm.
As they have no explosives in them, so they can be purchased, carried and deployed legally anywhere in the world.
Not only can they be used for trip wires but with the aid of a short length of fishing line and a couple of thumbtacks, I've also used then to alarm doors and set them to go off if anyone moves a backpack that I've left in a room.

Not sure if there a big thing in the states but in Aus i used too gut string pull party poppers of their streamers and attach it to a tent peg and use fishing wire to another tent peg and carry about 6 with me when i would do cadets. occasionally I would set them up in blind spots in our picket line so if we were tested in the middle of the night we had some warning. very cheap to make and set up.
In medieval Europe, geese were often used as a living perimeter alarm ( which has the advantage that they can also be eaten )

Good alert for bears, 4 legged and 2 legged ones that have no business violating your rights in order to perform their so called duties.Also good for scaring the crap out of trespassers and potential no good vermin criminals.would be good if it would also discharge a paint or pepper spray so you could identify the guilty party.Also go to your local dollar store and pick up some of those cheap electronic alarms with the magnets. Glue your trip wire onto the magnet so that if it gets separated the alarm will go off. Easy cheap and noisy. The batteries can get expensive over time.and as always trail cameras and proximity sensors and motion detectors

I had an idea for something similar didn't know it existed already. Something you could put in every corner of your yard. Each pair with a different alarm sound, so you know which alarm laser has been crossed.

Not really SHTF stuff, but solar powered motion activated lights are great. They are relatively inexpensive and serve the purpose of lighting up pieces where you walk and alerting you if something is in that area. Add security cameras and DIY equipment to the mix as you see fit. There are so many options for security cameras with them starting under $40, there's not really an excuse not to have them surrounding your property.
In these SHTF videos, I'm always expecting pungi traps or some medieval looking stuff. I'm picturing all the stuff from Predator and First Blood.
I usually see the motion lights set facing away from the "house". I was considering setting some up on stakes at a distance with the sensor facing inward. This would allow the perimeter to be set further away and avoid them being triggered if someone/animals aren't trespassing, for instance when camping. Hopefully, the outer perimeter would deter the intruder at that distance. The other nice camping advantages are, if they are staked near the ground, neighbors won't have light shining in their direction, you won't have them shining in your face, and you can use them instead of flashlights if you need to move around after dark. A secondary ring, set higher and nearer the entry points could be facing outward. The outer perimeter could be set far enough away that it isn't making your tent/house visible while interfering with the intruder 's night vision. Also, stakes would allow the lights to be repositioned so they aren't predictable.
That's the 2nd line of defence

I don't know for sure but I think a deep brass 12 gauge cut off at the top of the brass. Put in primer and a small charge and some cardboard wadding. Can be reloaded and reused. Shouldn't be a problem if you have the setup for reloaded 12 gauge shells. Not sure but I don't think it can be done without the press. I would Not put a primer in the shell without the press.
I like the idea of a whistling firework instead of a shooting sound.
For many reasons. Like: You wake up and you dont know if someone is already shooting or it's an animal setting your alarm. In the middle of shooting you could miss it. It's too loud for common use.
On the other hand in SHTF world an option of adding a can with black powder to a primer to cause some damage or a flash or to release gas or smoke seems alright

I wish you would make a general video on home protection. Here are a few of my ideas. A $1.50 wooden stick could save your life. One of the easiest ways for an intruder to get into your home is through your sliding glass door. Most people place a wooden stick at the bottom of the stationary side but this will do nothing to stop an experienced intruder. The door that slides open has a one-inch space on the top. The intruder will simply place their hands on the glass and lift it up. This causes the door to come off the track. They then kick in the bottom of the door making a triangle space through which to climb in through. This happened to me when I was not at home. Fortunately, my Husky met him at the door and he took off. The police came and showed me the intruder's handprints on the glass and explained how he did it. To prevent this, slide a 1/2 inch by 1 to 3 ft wooden stick in the top space of the sliding door to prevent the door from moving.
I also place large solar lights high up and out of reach, secured with Gorilla tape on my porch and deck facing my doors. Lowe's sells them for 20 bucks.
Third, when my dog is finished chewing his foot-long bone I leave it on my front porch to let them know my dog has big teeth. : )
Lastly, keep your car keys at your bedside at night. When you hear an intruder hit the car alarm on your fob. He likely will run away.
All you need is a cute, small dog for security. That little floof will provide alarm, love and comfort, and occasional annoyance for a small fee of: bag of dog food /per month.
My dog was murdered. Be careful. Pretty easy to take out any dog if planned right.
My Brother in law used to go on about what great security his dogs were.
I stayed at his house and found out the stupid mutts barked all day and night.
I asked him if they had worked out a system, did they stop barking if there was an intruder?

I live in the country and someone keeps messing with my garage keypad. Twice they’ve left water bottles at my garage. The police said they can’t do anything unless I catch someone on camera. I’ve been trying to figure out what to do. This is helpful.

Maybe try motion activated game cameras. I work on new custom homes from the ground up. The contractor puts them in the trees around the property. Catches all activity coming and going.
Get a IP camera, you stream it 7/24 to a DVR.
Then there trying to get in. I would leave it up about a foot and pull a all nighter in side they will have a hell of a suprise when they crawl in. Stakeouts arent just in the movies lol
Motion activated lights up above the door and along the approaches will probably resolve the issue.Theyre much cheaper than cameras at 4/$25 on Amazon and Ebay. Can't afford it or don't have the skills to install a video camera? Buy a fake one for $10. It will get same result from the perp.
The primer going off could cause an intruder to develop hearing loss and they could sue you. Lol
I was burglarized twice and figured they would come back so I ran my line out of my Bate caster across the gate walk and nailed it to the inside of my garage where I slept for three nights waiting. He was tangled up in fishing line when I "subdued" the perp 😅

I was an artillery officer and have slept through 155 Howitzers blasting 50 ft. away. I'm not sure a little cap would wake me from a dead sleep. I've seen some cool motion detection alarms for campsite on Amazon for about $30. Sorry, I don't have the link handy. Emits an alarm loud enough to scare away intruders and wake you.
I was a small arms and artillery repairman in the army and I've slept through m777s going off, but I'll wake up from someone trying to open my door or my dog getting off the bed.

I picked up a couple of hospital bed alarms. They only cost about $22.00 apiece and work very well.
The shotgun shell and primer.Alarms are my favorites.
Adding the audible alarm with a glow stick would be excellent for waking you and showing you which alarm went off
Next time you put spiderwire on your baitcaster make sure you get the moss colored that stuff makes really good trip wires just so you know what's left over after you finish.
I like how creative old ideas are. Now we can just setup prox sensors that will notify us on an app.

I have that with my security cam system pieced together for less than 400 bucks. 8 cams and all inform me of movement day/night I then look at it wherever I have cel service.

You know baby monitors with battery backup is a very good way for monitoring areas like your garage or anywhere in between thereof if you get the baby monitors with a 1000' range on them, I have one in my garage and one day it payed off 2 little boys saw my garage door open and decided to explore in my garage and I heard them from inside my house I scared the crap out of them but they did not take anything so that was good, but it works great.

Can't find 209 primers anywhere locally. Not paying $35 for shipping a single tray of primers.
I've used dune of those fireworks poppers that have a string and when it's pulled they pop. Very cheap too.
Also some really cheap door/window alarms on eBay that is place a magnetic part to something that moves or a string with the main part being the base or parent unit with built-in high decible audible alarm when separated. These let you know, but they also let the intruder know that you likely are aware of their presence now.
Those "break circuit" alarms at Harbor Freight are about $5 for a pair. I have used those for years in apartments and houses to supplement security systems. They are loud and difficult to defeat as there is only one way to open a door. The vibration sensor version are great for windows.
