Powerful Handheld Rocket Rifle (AK-47 style)

  • Here's how to take everyday sprinkler parts and convert them into a portable, hand-held rocket launcher! It's cheap to make, easy to use, and will send a paper rocket over 300 feet!!
Because of multiple requests for rocket launcher build plans, I spent 3 days putting together a detailed 12 page packet with instructions, part lists, SKU#'s, pictures, schematics, expanded view diagrams, and assembly instructions. I'm selling for $20 to help compensate for my time. You can buy them here if you're interested: bit.ly/RocketRifleParts

    WARNING:
This project should not be attempted without adult supervision and adequate training. Misuse, or careless use, of tools or projects may result in serious injury or death. Do not point rocket launcher at any living thing. Be aware of any risks posed by your environment before launching any projectile. Use of this video content is at your own risk.
Music By: Jason Shaw (TU-FatCats) www.audionautix.com
    Project Inspired By:
A friend in a previous neighborhood who had built a ground based launcher for shooting foam and paper rockets.
    Project History & More Info:
For this project, I've based my design on the style of an AK-47 assault rifle.
The parts are basically the same as what I used in my Candy Cannon project, but assembled slightly differently.
The system is charged to 135 PSI and includes a manual ball-valve that can be closed, trapping the air in the chambers so the air hose can be disconnected and the unit can go portable. I've been able to get 3 shots off before having to recharge, however each successive shot is less powerful.
When the trigger (momentary switch) is pushed, the 9 volt battery sends a current to the sprinkler valve allowing it to open and release the air. The blast of air is powerful enough to send these rockets out of sight.

Thanks for your concern. This PVC is schedule 40 and is pressure rated to 400 PSI. The valve would fail at 150PSI before the gun ever blew up .. unless you made bad connections, in which case it would be a defect in assembly. Be safe :)

Be very careful with this project, PVC pipe is only rated for 15 pounds of pressure. If dropped or if it has a hair line crack it could blow up into fragments that will cause serious injury. Check out plastic pipe made for air pressure, PVC is rated for water.

Where the hell do you buy your pvc at? My butthole is rated for more than 15 psi and every stick of pvc I've seen is rated for at least 120psi but most is 300 to 600 psi.

Jared, I'm very happy For your rear end orifice but the figure you quote is for liquid only, I plead with you to look it up before more injuries happen. I am a retired plumbing Inspector with all certifications. Check out the link from Anthony don.

Thomas Wenzler I'm unaware of all the injuries I guess. I have eyes, I can read, any pvc at every hardware store whether it's cpvc, or regular pvc has the pressure rating listed right on it. I dont care what your link says, I dont care what you did for a living pvc or cpvc is both rated for waaaaaaaaaaaay more than 15 psi. period. in every case. dont argue go to the store and read for yourself.

I guess I need to quote the warnings, you can look them up at Charlotte pipe, go to the warning site.
W-4: Use of compressed air or gas in PVC/ ABS / CPVC pipe or fittings can result in explosive failures and cause severe injury or death.
W-5: Do not use for SPUD GUNS, FLAMETHROWERS, or COMPRESSED AIR GUNS. May result in property damage, injury or death. Use only for fluid handling / plumbing applications.
I personally don't care if you build this or not but do so with proper knowledge. This information is available at the manufacturers web site, there is a history of injury and death as a result of ignoring safety practices. I have no problem with building the Rocket Rifle, I might build one myself, just not with PVC.
For the sake of public safety I made this info available, if you build this with PVC, please take proper precautions, it's just not worth the risk.
Sorry if anyone is offended, I am not wanting to argue just be careful.
For more info, go to Charlottepipe.com and read it for yourself.
      Happy Hunting

+ScreamingGoat43 He never said it did. He was basing the design of the launcher off of an assault rifle. Its not supposed to be an ak47 that shoots paper rockets, its supposed to be a regular tube-launched air cannon that is shaped like a rifle, rather than the typical fixed straight PVC tube.

Thats not how you use primer and pvc cement... You apply both at the same time, the primer "melts" the pvc pipe and so when you connect two connections with wet primer and wet cement on both connections, then the two connections "melt" to each other.
If you see this comment PLEASE edit your video, that is a very wrong way on installing a connection.

    • @ryanclaus2629
      @ryanclaus2629 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

Except that is how you use primer >.>
You completely clean the PVC surface you are attempting to cement. You apply primer. You wait until it dries, which should take 10-20 seconds or so, then you apply cement and immediately fasten after cement application. You can pretty much prime the entire project before you cement, which is much easier. Although, you also probably shouldn't allow the parts to sit around forever after being primed as the PVC needs to be chemically active in the specific spot you are cementing and rather unfortunately the primer will just continue to diffuse and no longer be "working" where you want it to.
Now for the science behind WHY this is the case. The primer is made of ketones and partially of cyclohexanone. The ketones loosen up the long polymer chains of PVC and softens it via swelling and partially via dissolving, which also makes a rough surface and more surface area. The cyclohexanone acts as a lubricating solvent. The primer is supposed to diffuse through the surface layers of the PVC and make the surface ready for the cement. The cement then takes these now loosely packed polymer chains and dissolves them further with the same ketones and more cyclohexaonone. Once the ketones dissolve what you applied it on, the PVC fractional content of the cement starts to cure alongside the dissolved PVC content. The two parts mix together and , after curing, you now have a fully bonded PVC piece that, in theory if everything was done perfectly, is only ONE solid continuous PVC piece rather than the two or more pieces that you had originally.
The way you describe what is happening makes it sound like you think primer and cement are the two parts of epoxy, which is a VERY wrong way of thinking about how this reaction works. You might as well not even apply primer as you aren't giving it enough time to work its way through the PVC. If the primer is still wet to touch, then the PVC isn't actually chemically "wet" yet as the primer hasn't saturated anything yet.
      TL;DR;
You are wrong Robert Karas. He is right. You might want to actually read the instructions next time.

Ryan Claus He stated "purple primer goes on first, and when its dry, apply the cement"
      So no, you are wrong.
I know how primer works, which is why stated it "melts" the plastic.
And if your going to be a bitch about your favorite howto builder is wrong on something, then here are some sources. But all I am doing is helping people, so learn how to do it fucktard.

Uhm wtf? Way to go 180 from your original stance. First you said he is wrong and you do both while still wet now you are quoting him saying he did it right and give links describing exactly what I just said yet say I'm wrong.
