I went for a ride in the local woods right before this event in similarly sloppy conditions and the roots/rocks are so slippery and unforgiving if you put your wheel wrong. I’m only doing half the speed these riders are doing too. Amaury’s run looked scary fast even with the GoPro effect.
His ability to read the track miles in front of him is staggering, super precise. He makes it hard to understand how it’s possible to ride so fast. What a rider 👏

But now it's absolutely insane to me the way these guys carry such speed over such terrain. This pov doesn't do justice how chunky this track really is. Insane
Was stood near the Visit Scotland arch for Elite Men Finals, and the atmosphere was incredible. Conditions were horrible, but these racers were absolutely hauling. Insane how good they are.
This is as close to perfection as a perfect run can get. Perfect line choice. Perfectly executed. Never out of control. Expended pedal energy at the most effective moments.
After riding this track myself its difficult to comprehend how someone rides it at this speed and makes it look so smooth and effortless, crazy the skill level of riders nowadays

Most people don't realize that a momentary lapse of concentration can mean several seconds lost. Everyone in the top 10-20 are pinning it top to bottom. For a rider to consistently make the top step of the podium, it means he's not only perfectly consistent, but a pushing a pace that other top level pros can't sustain.
Just baffles me how they don't fall with the slightest bump. I've literally fallen off my bike hitting a single stone sticking out the dirt, these guys just seem to fly over them like nothing's there.
For a guy like me riding a simpler hardtail through forests after work and at the weekend this ride is insane, the speed alone is insane even if it would be dry but it's wet and slippery instead. I guess I would have crashed at half the speed. These riders have a incredible skill level.

This has to be one of the most dangerous sports today. The potential for getting seriously hurt seems higher than MXGP or MotoGP. At any minute (at least in this run) a crash can mean badly broken bones, to say the least.

Absolutely insane riding skills… I went up there for the 2018 final and believe me going that fast on that track takes unbelievable skill. I’d be about half way down by now if we both started at the same time 😂
Damn this is a long DH track lol. The amount of not just endurance, but strength, it takes to maintain composure and not wipe out on a run like this is immense. Great performance 👍
I think this is probably one of the more underestimated aspects of their riding. A lot of really good riders can make it down that course and look pretty good doing it. Not many will have the fitness to ride it at full speed from top to bottom. Go watch at a bike park for an hour and I bet you can count on one hand how many riders run top to bottom with no stops, much less at 80% of their max.
@@NONO-hz4vo Agreed! I've seen a lot of DH and enduro focused "workout programs" and it's surprising how many of them don't include much (if any) actual strength training movements. It takes more than on-bike workouts to get to this level
The latter half of that run going through all that muddy slick high-speed sections was mind blowing. Such precision.

So aggressive yet so smooth. Pierron and daprela are both unstoppable when they don't crash. Also cool that the lense stayed clear the whole time
Mental how close together the first 3 times were! In those conditions and that long a track and less than a second between top 3 is mental!
The time gaps in the first section were pretty big though. Some guys were seconds faster than him.
Don´t forget the Junior-class. First two were only a second slower then Amaury.
