This video is merely an example, and by no means is a substitute for a certified technician, shop manual procedure, or common sense. If you in any way, shape, or form feel like you do not have the skills and finesse required to complete the job, ALWAYS have a certified technician perform the job.
We show you how to remove and replace the damping rod shaft seal on the Showa closed cartridge suspension. It's such a common thing for this particular seal go bad and leak all the oil that once was a sealed chamber out into the external fork chamber. This leaves you with no rebound damping and no compression damping either.

🙂clear and concise video. I am planning on replacing my Honda crf250r 2004 ICS now. Looks like the first time too as the peen has not been drilled.

Excellent Vid!!!I would add that it is much better to drill peens deeper rather than shallow. I almost messed up 1st leg by not drilling deep enough. 2nd leg I went more than deep enough and came apart like butter. Used a 5/32 bit

Thank you for this excellent video. Would you consider making one about changing the upper piston seal as well? I understand the use of heat is required for that seal as well. Thanks a lot, this video was very helpful.
