I’m in the same trade you are, but also welding shop as well. Most contractors wouldn’t want to put a new handle on there anyways it’s cheaper to fix the old one. All them little tricks you learn sure do help in the long run.
The "Nemo" bottles you mentioned with integrated regulators and protection are intended for use in vehicle. Only needs to be closed during transport. At least on top of the globe across the pond.
Also, I got into the trade 10 years ago, mine was starting up at home, requiring 50-60 techs. Worked in the shop and pit for 4 years, last 6 has been on the road all over the arctic region of Norway.

Pretty much any college. I wouldn't worry too much about which one as long as it has a foundation course. You probably won't start out in the field but if you've got your foundation there's plenty of shops that will give you a shot. Don't worry if you're a super noob when it comes to equipment. The foundation course is designed to take pretty much anyone willing to work their ass off and turn them into a tradesperson.
Honestly, go into any HD shop and tell them your interested in doing an apprenticeship and see what they have to say. I got into an apprenticeship before school and learn on the job.
