150%%%%% So sad this shows ending. Truly 😢 I love this world and need more of it ❤💔
The book is perfection. No season 2 please
It’s Disney. Season 2 will cast black and gay, trans in place of Japanese.
Yes best television of the year overall
Of course I'm looking forward to it! It has been an absolutely marvelous series to behold. Clavell's great story is well told here. I am sad to see it end.
This is the kind of limited series that just have to end in 1 season because it is too good be ruined by another season.
Yeah. It will most likely be remembered so well too!
Maybe they can move on to tai pan and show us a different part Aisa near this time
there is no more original material for another season..... anything but will be all coming from screenwriters and we knew how GoT went....
I wish the final episode is 3 hours long so we could have the ending the series deserves.
having said that, i don't mind a special movie length episode on the actual battle between Toranaga and Ishido.... that'll be spectacular if they can portrait real feudal japan battle scene as the storyline will be irrelevant anyway...
Ochibas delivery is so unsettling the way she speaks is like she's a snake
Yodo-dono
Agreed! The contrast of that and then yabushige the real snake!! - unbelievable
@@MantisSidao Yabushige became the lovable dork through the whole season, even if we did see the cracks everytime.
@@AManChoosesASlaveObeys oh yes and it was great, I was just saying it’s funny how Ochiba sounds like the real snake but then really she is just scared for her and her son. But then you look at him and he’s a cowardly snake
Reminds me of orochimaru from naruto
Episode 9 was very emotional. The false sense of security that Mariko ultimately would live was crushed when she sacrificed herself. I am also gutted that this amazing series will finally end next Tuesday. The series started on my birthday and my mother passed away a week later. My mother was an avid fan of exceptional TV shows and I am gutted she never got to enjoy Shogun like I did.
I'm sorry for your Loss.
Take solace that you carry on watching for her and pass the tradition to her future generations
My condolences 🙏🏾
❤❤ what a beautiful comment. And you’re wrong. She’s right beside you, watching. In life you had to be apart sometimes, now she’s always where she wants to be: with you. ❤
I feel sorry to hear that. Sincere condolences
Condolences for your loss. I'm sure this series now has an even more profound significance for you.
I miss Fuji and was glad to see her in the trailer for the finale.
Blackthorne+Mariko for life but, Blackthorne +Fuji would be a close second
@@cascadianapplications7124 it's not looking like it will happen in this series, but in the book she bore him children...
@@johnhancock4802 nice
@@johnhancock4802 wow😂
It would be wonderful, if they did episode 10 but divided in 2 parts!
That would be amazing 👏🏼
Or make it 2 hours long
RIP Mariko!!!😭😭😭
Mariko yelled “I strike at my father’s enemies” then she struck and her father’s enemies.
😭me too, so sad
I just want episode 10 to be 10 episodes long, please!!
100%
I hope there is no episode 11 12 13 14😅 getting prank by toranaga plot twist
You have treated these episodes with well thought out comments. I look forward to more content from you.
Thanks a lot! I'm glad you've enjoyed the videos!
Tbh i dont know how will end because we know for 100% sure they atleast show a bit of the battle of sekigahara. Because in a behind the scene episode called: "Expanding the Vision with VFX" on 1:29 they basically show both parties in full armor and having their armies in the background.
Ah okay, that's interesting! Maybe it will be as montage when Toranaga narrates. Something like that maybe
@@BrainPilot It was really pretty visual when i saw it the first time. So can't wait for it to see it in full
I am Japanese. After this, the Battle of Sekigahara, the largest civil war in Japanese history, took place. After that, Japan enjoyed 300 years of peace, but it was destroyed by Perry of the United States.
No no no the atomic bomb
But atomic bomb is a reason so japan didnt become devil of colonialist
Hopefully they use this show to spin off into a Musashi series which starts with the battle of Sekigahara- great book
Yes!
Musashi was only undefeated in one-on-one duels it's way different when you're running on a battlefield with 40 thousand people trying to kill you
@@krewdugdale7973he did fight in the war
@@krewdugdale7973Thousands of people are fighting in formations and get pushed in to replace the fallen guy in front. There’s no WWE all out free for all rumble all around you. Musashi will still do fine on the frontline. They’d have to hope they aren’t next in line to have to substitute the guy he cut down. 😂
Absolutely looking forward to the finale! As there is no second season because "Shogun"'s story is self-contained, I'm hopeful that showrunners Justin Marks, Rachel Kondo and FX Hulu could get an adaptation of James Clavell's sort of sequel book "Gai-Jin" whose setting is in the 1800's (the height of Japan's Edo Period), off the ground. We've had adaptations of 2 of Clavell's other Asia Saga novels "Tai-Pan" (1986 ) as a feature film starring Bryan Brown and Joan Chen and "Noble House" as a 4 part NBC mini series starring Pierce Brosnan, two years later. So, why not "Gai-Jin"? Marks and Kondo already have the production templates, actor, artistic consultant and historical authenticity contacts and the requisite experience from having made "Shogun"...
The finale will be bitter-sweet: sweet in that I anticipate some epic events and conclusion to the various story-lines; bitter in that we will be saying a final farewell to these wonderful characters.
Everyone was waiting for what all planning was going on in Toranga's head & how he will execute that & finally become Shogun...Btw brother loved your explanation throughout the whole series from the start.
Thanks, glad you've enjoyed the videos. It means a lot 👊
Reading the book you’d wish there were another thousand pages, but there aren’t, it’s over.
I agree that we probably aren’t gonna get to see the War fighting, which is kinda sad but I don’t mind as long as they conclude the individual stories of these amazing characters
I mind. Do you know how often somebody comes along making a series or movie about old Japan that cares so much for the culture and source material? It's once in a lifetime thing! If that.
Love your voice! 🗣 And, as always, thanks for the explanations. I read the book and watched the 1980 version, so also mega curious what the crew will make of it. Maybe the last episode will be more epic than the book ending, I loved the book but found the last chapter somewhat rushed.
Thanks! Glad you enjoy the videos! Yeah i'm hoping it has an epic finale feel too
this series has been epic,i hope it wins every award possible,a true classic.
Shogun is the only series worth watching in the past 10 years that has great writing, awesome acting and directing and does not bow trying inclusive and preaching an agenda. More shows like this would be welcomed. Well done to the creators, directors, and actors to Shogun. One of the few shows I have ever watched that I will miss after the ending.
Warrior 2019 s01-03 is worth watching too.
What are you talking about there have been a lot of great shows in the past 10 years. Stop drinking the anti woke mind virus koolaid.
Better Call Saul.
OK boomer, maybe stop watching Fox news and GB news. it'll rot your brain, and you haven't got many brain-cells to spare, being you able to count them on one hand and all 😂. Maybe just enjoy the show, and not blather on about this manufactured culture war garbage!. The show has been absolutely amazing so far!.
It’s a shame that we’re not gonna be able to get a new season. This was awesome.
👏🏽 Great Job
If there is one thing we got out of this episode is that girl really really wanted to die
I am Japanese. After this, the Battle of Sekigahara, the largest civil war in Japanese history, took place. After that, Japan enjoyed 300 years of peace, but it was destroyed by Perry of the United States.
Shouldn’t have attacked Pearl Harbor…
? You forgot about the part of the Japanese torturing rape and killing millions of their neighbors. The chinese,Koreans Filipinos etc. all war crimes which were never brought to justice. Vivisections, sexual mutilations and live dismemberment. Read about the rape of Nanking. And then attacking Pearl Harbir in a sneak attack. Yeah the Japanese were such innocent victims.
@@aemk6129- there’s more to it than that- I spent 5 months in Japan and visited Hiroshima- it was very humbling
@@Ocalif3 More to it than “shouldn’t have attacked”?? Either you miss the grand picture, or assume somehow the result wasn’t created by Japan attacking the US. Of course, there’s a lot more to all of it… certainly didn’t suggest that the US brought Japan out of 300 years of peace. That was stated prior… can’t blame the American citizens and servicemen in Hawaii who lost their lives after Japan enjoyed 300 years of peace. That narrative carries zero value… follow along.
I think it will be blackthorn being seconed and Fuji-Sama stops it just before because i saw clip with her on that same cliff side looking panicked. Also in one trailer i saw with Blackthorn ship looked fixed with Torunaga's bird flying past it.
thanks for covering this show, its how I found and subscribed to you.
Thanks! Glad you've been enjoying the videos!
Brilliant
Best series I've watched in a long time
Same here!
Glad to see Fuji back 😍
Yeah same!
This show gives you the feeling of wanting more, they're building up to something, perhaps a big battle, perhaps a big plan. It's still missing the action a bit on my end. Which I doubt we will get a huge battle. A bit disappointed by it but Im okay with it. I've grown to love the show so much whichever way they decide to end it Im sure I will be in tears.
The fun thing about Blackthorne is that he constantly reads the Japanese leaders wrongly. He assumes his offers to go against the Portugese is what makes them keep him around. That his training is highly valued and that his plan to go after hte Black Ship is extremly tempting. In reality the reason he is kept around is basically just to keep the Portugese and Christian Daymios guessing and on their toes. Neither Ishido nor Tornaga have any intention to ever let the Anjin threaten the trade Portugal is doing on their behalf. Later down the line the Shogunate is happy to deal with Netherland traders instead, but that is still quite a long way of.
He is being played and he doesn't even realise it. Even the whole build ships for me is a ruse to keep him occupied. There is no intention to ever turn those ships against the Portugal traders. Father Martin will be very disapointed in Toronaga handleing of catholics (and christians in general) in the future. And even more of the one his heirs implement. What some people who claim certain character ought to have picked Toronaga's side forget that given Toronaga's position, goals and policies it is not in their interest.
I was confused, so for any that have doubts about Blackthorne in those scenes in the future, those are a what if, in other words, Blackthorne died the moment Anjin made up his mind and decided to risk it all for honor at the end of the episode. That future we saw, was the future where Blackthorne lived and escaped Japan, as through the episode we see how Blackthorne is still barely holding himself together, lost his path but still had hope in his future as a protestant and englishman, now that Mariko is gone there was nothing tying him down in Japan. That hope and all traces of doubt crumbled in the forest scene when the Jesuit told him the truth, and finally turned into dust when he figured out what Mariko did for him. After all that no doubt was left in his mind, so he risked it all, honoring Mariko's wishes, leaving his englishman past behind. That moment most of his values changed, fully becoming japanese, embracing his new fate as a samurai, destroying his future we saw in those scenes with him as an old man. Blackthorne in episode 9 would've never considered doing what he did at the end of episode 10.
Toranaga acts as Second for Yabushige.
@@lindasm8773 Well, I usually need at least 9 strokes...
Such a great show!
What would be great is if the last EP is like 1.5 to 2 hours long so they can show at least a bit of the battle. That would be perfect!
It would be great if it did!
Episode 9 was all about Mariko and it was heart-breaking to see her die. I knew that Mariko was determined to sacrifice her life with pride, strength and dignity, but she will be missed greatly😭
I think that the men pulling the ropes might be them bringing the cannons ashore. I think that Torranaga sent the Erasmus to Osaka to pre-position the guns for the siege of Osaka Castle.
Yeah I agree
Yabushige has this weird fascination with what people do or say or what they look like as they're dying.
Its going to be interesting how that's going to go when he's facing his own death by seppuku.
Great show
They could also showcase it this way- years later, Toranaga now the ultimate lord recaps the war in visions. Only the main moments.
If they go by the Book, then the Battle is presented in an subtle Way, because, like you said, the Book and this Series is not about Saughter in Detail, but about the Play of Power is done. And to that adds, that the burning/destroying of the Erasmus is surely to keep the Anjin on the Isle, but much more as Gift to the christian Warlords to get their Alegiance in the coming Battles.
Hope we see more stories set in this era done just like Shogun. High bar, but if other shows eveb resch 80% of the quality of this one, it will be a great success.
I could not agree more 👌🏼
Yeah I hope so too!
There needs to be a season 2. It's that good of a show!
I have loved every episode....not a bad moment and stunning! What a shame it is ending..
Will be a season2??🥺🥺
I hope the last episode is 2hours😍
Actually, the more I think about it, there could be a second season. There isn’t a book to base it on, but there is history. I’m sure the writers could find some interesting stories to tell about the start of Toranga’s shogunate and the beginning of the Edo period.
will there a an easter egg for young miyamoto musashi? musashi joined the sekigahara battle
I understand that there are production cost but so are additional revenue opportunities with each episode. I feel that this series could have easily gone through 2 seasons as there could have been additional details, history and context provided on why the various groups are at odds with each other. They left a lot to your imagination or for the viewer to surmise. I enjoyed it but would have like a lot more.
Not sure how they can possibly wrap everything up in one episode. Should have been a longer series.
In the novel, Mariko entrusted Toranaga her letter to Blackthorne. Will it in the final episode? I hope so.
Toranaga forced Ishido in an "unwinnable war" similar to his first victory. The Battle of Sekigahara is not crucial to be shown for we know Toranaga will win that battle. It is more crucial to know whom among the Regents will betray Ishido before or during the Battle.
I hate that this is the end. I've been captivated by this show.
My predictions is Ishido is going to be drawn out of Osaka as planned the Christian lords of the council going to hesitate and wait until a winning side is clear, Toranaga half brother is going to switch side almost instantly because he know his brother well and is smart enough to see drawing ishido out is part of the plan. The last lord in yellow maybe he would also hesitate he a complete unknown being the replace ment for the lord killed in episode 7?
The leper Daimyo's Mon looks like that one the Shimazu clan, which if I'm not mistaken, started the battle on the side of Ishida Mitsunari (Ishido) but stayed still until they turned against him.
I read the book when it came out pre Shogun 1980s miniseries- Shogun 2024 is top notch!! Orson Welles narrated the first miniseries-
Hiroyuki Sanada is one talented actor with his steely eyes saying everything while speaking nothing- Lord Toranaga
Anna Sawai is also a stand out- if this series doesn’t win multiple awards- then I’m done
Episode 9
I was in tears 😢 Mariko will miss you.
Finale 😮💨😮💨🤒 next week 😢
It's been great watching this series 👏👏👏
wasnt fuji sama in the trailer too?
Somehow it’s always dark, grey, wet and moist in every shot as if the show was shot in England in early November
Or April.
I am eagerly anticipating the moment when Ishiod's head touches the ground.
He may be buried up to his head as in the 1980 version.
@@cameronjones8641As in the book.
i'm seriously looking forward to season 2 though.
There is no season 2.
They wont make a season 2, but they will make another season set another date etc most likely. A lot more happened before and after these events, irl.
Let's hope so!
This is the first reasonable argument for another series.
I do think they have been a bit too harsh with blackthorns character by this point he had excepted principal of karma and was loyal to toranaga
It will be a few years before we see another series with this much depth.
It is just so good isn't it!
even tho they already said they wouldn't do a second season, I think it would be amazing to have the second season dedicated to the war of sekigahara.
That would be cool, or some kind of prequel!
It's sad that they changed Blackthorne's character so much for this adaptation.
I for one am happy they didn’t just repeat the 1980 version. I like they shifted the point of view to the Japanese from Blackthorn.
In 1980 most Americans had little knowledge of Japan, its people, culture and history. Today, more Americans know about Japan, so it doesn’t have to explain as much and can focus on the Japanese characters and the political machinations, which I find much more interesting than the fish out of water story of the 1980 version, which totally left out the Japanese viewpoint.
@@dstarling61
I didn't want them to repeat the 1980 version neither; I wanted a better adaptation of the novel.
Read the novel.
@@dstarling61
Furthermore, it's not so much the focus as it is how much they changed his character from what is presented in the novel.
This Blackthorne lacks a lot of nuance and development, largely because this series is too short to really get into the complexities the book delves into. It really needed two seasons to properly tell the story.
The blad e Blackthorn brandishes is much longer than a seppuku blade. like twice. It was just one of the ones he was given
I mainly wonder how toranaga can get blackthorne his side after that
Yabu seppuku and Toranaga seconding him will be near end of finale I assume.
I hope this show is such a hit that they can't help themselves and do a second season anyway lol
Now that would be good!
How? It's a self contained story.
love this show but I agree i don't think their be a big battle which be sad too dam why does it need to end
even if we all love this series....i hope that they wont chage mind and release second season because money are sweet....this perfection will be ruined if they do
Seconding Akechi Jinchai .. Moriko's father. It's a flashback.
jop, its his ARmoprt laying at the Ground, but, hey nowadays everthing got to be hyped because...clicks....money;)
Asian game of thrones hits hard
Because unlike Game of Thrones, this is real.
Nothing like GOT
I can see why people compare the two and I know you are using it as a compliment but I absolutely hate the comparison. It irritates me greatly as truthfully they are nothing alike apart from political intrigue.
4:00 isnt blackthorne speaking english? why is he speaking portuguese?
He was always speaking Portuguese…it’s just they chose for English due to the audience
Yeah basically whenever you see characters speaking english they are speaking Portuguese
It would be good to do seasons 2 and 3, the idea would be the twin sister Marico, who disappeared years ago... and there is a season 2
Sure the book is at the end but who says the story has to end here? 🇯🇵
I’m assuming he beats ishido and seconds him? We know it’s not blackthorne as we know he lives out his life in Japan
This has been a masterpiece of Television
It really has been!
Why a remake? I knew what was and is going to happen! Are there not other Feudal Japan scripts to be used?
It will end at episode 10 because it's literally the ending of the novel it's based on. Several difference here and there even with the original made for TV series. Overall wonderful story. I highly recommend reading the book
This is the only show that i loved so much that I don't wanna have s2 because all those great characters are already dead.😢
Not showing Sekigahara would be a massive disservice to the Japanese history being told here. It's equivalent to intimately detailing Robert E Lee's life and then just omitting Gettysburg.
I guess John is probably mad at toranaga because he blames him for marikos death
It's a shame that more than one season wasn't given to explore Clavell's epic and complex novel Shogun.
So much has been removed or truncated to squeeze the story into 10 episodes.
It should have been 2 seasons
Buntaro seems to have disappeared, or have I missed something?
How is that possible that there will be no season 2. We demand 5 episodes
How? it's a self contained story. What do you want them to do, bring Mariko back from the dead and call it "Shogun, Zombie Apocalypse "?
🤣🤣
I believe season 1 will end in a cliffhanger and the story will continue on the 2nd season.
What about lady fuji?
Does anyone know if Miyamoto Musashi was on Tokugawa Ieyasu side
I hope that the show ends with Toranaga leading his troops into battle with Blackthorne at his side. Credits can then give the epilogue.
I certainly don't! Let's see a battle and some kind of completion of the story.
@@cameronjones8641 I would love that too, but I think that is unrealistic to expect from a final episode. Let's see.
Son of a!! There’s no battle?? I really hope we get something but if that’s how the original series ended that way it’s probably most likely that it will be the same here
yeah and the book doesn't even go into detail as well, the battle is only a footnote
winter is comimg
I think they should do a series of Yabushige and Ishido in Korea. Seeing how Yabu sama stays alive in Korea would be good.
Yeah that would be cool!
I think there will be a season two. It's just marketing. Toronaga or Ieyasu's life can be portrayed for another 3 seasons.
The show will finish with the words: The End!
If we don’t get an all out battle this show will not reach the lvl I expected in my opinion. Something like the last samurai
I think he is seconding Yabushige.
And I dearly hope it is not Fuji, who also has the same desire for death like Mariko.
Mariko ain't dead, she's going to ride in on Godzillaas back, thrn taranaga will transend Into honzo Hisashi and drive a spear into ishido
The woman of shugun’s are immaculate “mariko, fuji, kiku, ochiba” queens
Yeah they are so good!
The concluding episode, with a duration of approximately 60 minutes, is tasked with encompassing all narrative arcs as effectively as the original 80's series. Consequently, in my opinion that the significant Battle of Sekigahara might be omitted to accommodate the narrative, a decision I find quite disappointing. Overall, "Shogun" appears to be merely a modernized rendition of the series from the 1980s.
日本人です。海外の方々が関ヶ原の戦いを御存知なのに驚きました。博識ぶりに敬服します。
私の先祖も徳川方(虎長)に付き合戦に出ました。その折の太刀が今も伝わっています。
The whole show has been leading up to this final battle. It would let the show down so much if we don’t actually get one…
I have to agree. It's too good an opportunity and it would cap what is probably my favourite ever series.
I don't see they have time for a giant battle scene but like like you said the original series didn't have one either
We can see Toronaga and Ishido in full armour in a behind the scenes video. The shot wasnt used so far so it's definitely for the battle. Although it seems short, think of how many movies manage to have memorable battle scenes within 2 hours. Given we already got 9 hours of story its definitely possible to include it imo
We sure gonna see the epic scale of their armies because in behind the scenes of Chapter Five: Expanding the Vision with VFX you can see on 1:29 both armies facing off. So this could be the ending but a better looking or we gonna see a bit of it and than a jump cut to the aftermath
