As an American parent, I had a similar situation. My kids told the doctors they were homeschooled. Doctor had a long pause and proceeds to test my kids with their numbers, reading skills, multiplication facts and science 😂. I told her I have to leave so I need the physical to be done. I went to the front office and switched my doctor. It’s very ignorant, really. Educated people being uneducated. 😂

One of my kids has ADHD. Our doctor (on the day she told us he has ADHD) said, “At least you are homeschooling him. You’ll be able to adjust his schooling to fit his needs.” And she smiled. It meant so much.

They are taught to pass a standardized test in my area. When I was a kid we had to take the IGAP test. We were coached to use our opening and conclusion statement to be identical (minus inserting in conclusion). It was not teaching how to write and think. It was all about passing a test to buff the teacher’s salary. Terrible writing and English.

Here in Ontario, they are very "behind" because of covid and honestly the unnecessary things they focus on in school instead of actual school subjects. Here, they are more focused on kids exploring what gender they are and calling white people racist than academics. My friend, who's a teacher, was telling me that kids are struggling to read in the 9th grade and also to write simple words such as "your" they spell it "ur" ... they are also removing spelling from the curriculum... because it's offensive 🙄😅

The state of Illinois literally just posted last year's scores and 60 schools ZERO STUDENTS were not proficient in math or science at their grade level, and 23 schools in which zero students were proficient in both math and science at their grade level. Overall scores dropped 33%. As a nation we are seeing the lowest literacy rates in several decades.
It's really ridiculous we have people stuck in this mindset that home schooling children makes you "behind" or "awkward". Society wants to cling to the Rockefeller structuring I guess...but it's getting more and more toxic.

The “socialization” happening within the public school system is truly sickening. It is all about social hierarchy and status. The (perceived) weak ones are brutally tormented. Homeschooled kids by and large have manners and are respectful to authority. That is REAL “socialization” IMO.

For my first year of public high school I had NO friends. We had just moved the summer before (not very far, just one town over) I started my sophomore year and it crippled me. I didn't get a group of friends until almost the end of that year. So for about 8 months I was attending public school and had absolutely no one. I was shy, quiet, and had a hard time sticking up for myself. The only people who would talk to me and get me to try to hang with them were the kids smoking dope. Eventually I found some geeky kids to hang with for the remainder of my high school experience but I couldn't imagine how some of these kids go their WHOLE high school like that. Being alone and no one giving them the time of day because they're worried about being friends with someone who is "weird."
If that's the kind of "socialization" that they're talking about then no thanks. I don't want my kids to have to go through that. I want my kids to be confident in who they are and to have fun exploring what their interested in without having to worry about if it's "in" to have interests in those things.

As a homeschooling mom since 2009. I have since graduated 2 children. I have 4 more to go!!! I only received negative feedback about homeschooling from my family. My mom said “ how are you going to homeschool when you only have a high school diploma“ I said-watch me. Then, cut all of my family members off until I became confident in my new lifestyle and I went to work.
Fast forward to today. My sister has since asked me to homeschool my nephew and my cousin who has 3 children recently asked me as well to homeschool her children. My children have excelled way passed any of my family expectations. Also, my family are full of teachers. My aunt who teaches ELA told me how impressed she is with me and said I know more than teachers who are certified. My grandmother who is a retired teacher, expressed to me today how proud of me she is, and said that she knows my children are getting a better education at home then they would have if they’d been in any other school. I said that to say…only YOU know your vision for your family! Society is threatened by independent thinkers and will do anything to discourage that. To the homeschooling moms-KEEP GOING!

Yeah, because having your kids go to school FOR 12 YEARS is so important. Yet, it means absolutely nothing because you have to go to collage to learn and actually be educated enough to teach the kids what you were taught for your entire childhood!!
Did you know that only 10 percent of what is actually taught in college requires actual teachers to teach you how to do that line of work. Like becoming a nurse, dentist, vet doctor or engineer (all fields of engineering). But ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING ELSE IS AVAILABLE FREE ONLINE, IN BOOKS AND FREE TO LEARN ON SITES LIKE TH-cam!!

How is sending your kid to a place where they stay sick, get bullied, and don’t get the personal attention they need better than homeschooling? I had something similar happen but I am conformational and told the doctor how my oldest declined and since being at home back at home she has gotten back to where she was and some. It’s more about making robots and worker bees that can sit for hours upon hours. And just because someone has a degree that says they know what they are doing doesn’t mean they do. Tell your friend to get a new doctor because that one is not it. Sending her love and support.

A reason to KEEP homeschooling!! I am a 60-year-old American homeschooling mom of three grown children. Who also dealt and still does deal with ignorant people such as the doctor you spoke of. I don't know what the schools are like in Canada, but I can tell you what schools are like here in America. One of my homeschool children has been teaching 3rd grade for a Charter school for the last 4 years. The children coming into 3rd grade cannot write, they have been taught that it's okay to write words with mixed capital and lowercase letters, such as chilDrEn, JumPinG, TYPinG, i, etc... (by the way, spell check didn't correct those words with mixed letters.) Teachers are not allowed to address this issue with the students, after all, students are not being tested on correct letter usage in words. The children are not able to do double number addition and subtraction problems with carrying and borrowing, but yet expected to learn multiplication right from the start of the year. The foundations of learning are being totally skipped over for the sake of CC and End of Year test scores. Teachers in the schools are literally not allowed to fill in those gaps and if they attempt to do so, they are demoted and forced out of the school through actual Administrative bullying. One of the administrators, a supposed Curriculum Specialist, wants to remove spelling altogether in the 3rd grade class of her school and just do vocabulary because, after all, they are not being tested on spelling so there is no need to teach it. The Curriculum Specialist admitted she didn't teach it to her students. GASP!! May the Lord help us all. The violence and behavior issues in the schools are a whole other matter. I believe that many a child is very unhappy and afraid in their school environments. So many parents are clueless about their children's well-being in the schools of today. Thank you dear Lord for the blessings and insight to homeschool.
So darlings, know that you are doing the right thing by homeschooling your children, you are saving them from our corrupt messed-up school system. Stay strong and have faith that your children are receiving so much more than any school could ever give them. Your children are being nurtured and loved and taught right from wrong and more than likely the love of learning. For when it all comes down to it. There is nothing good the system is teaching our children that we can't teach better and that is a FACT, and not an opinion. I for one stand behind you as a homeschooler all the way. Keep up the good fight. May the Lord bless you and keep you.

      @lifewithginab  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Yes, in Canada, I've heard many of the things you stated including spelling. My friend who is teacher said that 9th graders don't even know how to spell the word "your" they spell it "ur" I am so thankful to be homeschooling my kids ❤️ thanks for the encouragement!

It is the same in Canada. Standard of education has been lowered and they’ve gotten rid of the grading system to not hurt the kids feelings. Kids are moving on to the next grades without having passed previous grades. I run into moms from other countries often who say education here is a joke. I agree. I grew up in a third world country and our standard there was much higher and kids performed incredibly well in school.

Early on in our decision one of my daughter's doctors was very negative. Flat out told me how she felt and I asked her if this was in her medical or personal opinion. She didn't answer so I reminded her that I do not co-parent with my kids' doctors and this is a parenting decision. I've had a lot of experiences with doctors feeling as if they can overrule me, that they are in charge and in many things they are but ultimately I'm number 1 when it comes to my kids. I stole that quote from House when the mom told him as the mom she outranks him.

We are in our third year of homeschooling. I have always been told by our friends and family about my in-laws disapproval of our decision. This week, I heard it for myself. My father-in-law didn't know I was working on the computer at his house, and he came in, telling my mother-in-law his thoughts. He said..."I saw the morons (his grandsons) riding the 4wheeler this morning. Must have been a short education day today, if any at all". I could not believe it. She quietly let him know I was in the house and he went right back out the door. Little did he know, the boys begged me to go check there trap line before school that day and I said yes. I cried the whole day. My husband reassured me we are doing the right thing, don't doubt what we are doing, he said. My in-laws have never once asked what the boys are learning or to see their books. They would just rather have their own theory than to actually educate themselves about our homeschool. It's hard to tell he has a Master's Degree, and she has a Bachelor's in education, none the less. Thanks for your video!

She said we are passed 2+2. 😮 she puts me down in front of the kids about it also. I used to cry and feel badly but now I shrug it off. She digs at me all the time about it. But I KNOW GOD put me here in this position. He is the boss lol. Not her. I answer to him not her. The Lord blesses us in many ways. Even if it is tough in laws. I believe that is OUR lesson of how to deal with people and model good behavior in tough moments in front of the kids.

It doesn't matter if he has a Masters degree, so what? What he said was down right awful! And all the knowledge in the world means nothing, if you can't operate like a decent human being. That definitely includes not disparaging his own grandsons behind their back and then run away with his tail between his legs. Quite cowardly IMHO.

You are doing the RIGHT thing. And your husband is right. But your husband also needs to be talking to his parents and setting boundaries. And maybe you could invite mom in law to check out your curriculum one day over coffee.
It’s not your responsibility to educate them.
And it’s utterly heartbreaking, because I live out of state from my own family and I’m sure they talk about us and our kids like that. Glad I can’t hear it and we are not around any of it.

My child doctor thought it was good for my child with ASD and ADHD. His doctor was advising and giving me great information to homeschool. She even connected me to helpful agencies. Your friend doctor does not have a clue. Just traditional…
And the kids will miss friends, but there’s groups to join and things to do.

This story makes my blood boil but thank you so much for sharing it! I feel the pain your friend felt. I am so sick of doctors with their arrogance and ignorance!
I was a teacher in public schools before I had kids and gave my ALL to my students. I was working in my classroom until midnight most nights and would leave when the janitors had to lock up the building. And even after all that time and effort I put in, it felt like it was never enough bc these precious kids deserved so much more- things I wasn’t “allowed” to provide for them. They deserved to have interesting self led projects, freedom to think critically, freedom from constant testing and bullying, freedom to be outdoors playing and using their imaginations for several hours each day, freedom to learn at their own pace. I told myself if I ever had kids I would homeschool them. Now I’m a blessed mom of 4 homeschooling. 🙏🏻❤️ I only take my kids to the dr when they’re very sick but every time I do the pediatrician will reprimand me for not taking them for their “well checks.” The way I see it though, why would I take them to a sick place to get exposed to all kinds of illness to then get harassed by the doctor for turning down all the poisons they try to force in their bodies? Most (not all) doctors are just cartel in white coats, pushing drugs for big pharma. Hard to find a “good” dr these days.

Sorry about what happened to your friend. To say that the doctor was insensitive is an understatement. I'm not Christian nor religious and I've never heard of homeschooling until I immigrated to the US but I chose to homeschool my kids because I also can't accept what they teach kids at school. Some things are just not moral nor suitable for kids!! And it's true that we do have a little problem with socializing but I've only been homeschooling for 3 months, so I'm still looking and searching and doing my best to find co-ops and socialize. Honestly some people should keep their noses out of other people's business!

The doctor clearly doesn’t understand how homeschooling works. I was homeschooled all throughout childhood, we had co-ops, classes, and events, with other kids. Honestly, I was more social than public school kids because I had real-world experiences where I was pushed out of my comfort zone to meet people and carry out errands. But most importantly, we learned how to have fun by ourselves. As someone with a lot of siblings anyway, I was never alone. That was completely disrespectful for the doctor to ask someone's kid if they don't like their parent's decision. Even as a child, I wouldn't let anyone talk to me about my mom no matter what I personally thought, like "Do you want to get slapped?" When God ordains the order of the mother over the children (not the world), the world is going to fight that order no matter what. Thank you for sharing this story and spreading encouragement. I was homeschooled and plan to homeschool my future kids one day. Being a mother is not easy, I realize that out of appreciation for my own mother, who was faithful to us and to God.

Honestly, this one of the reasons why I'm looking into switching to a naturopathic doctor in my area that sees kids as well as adult patients. I'm sick of all the shenanigans going on since Covid in the medical field, and neither myself nor my kids have been to any doctor (but we still see out dentist regularly) since 2020. I'm seriously considering discontinuing their vaccine schedule and definitely never going to take them for that dodgy mRNA concoction. I say this in the humblest fashion. I think that I have become too principled and committed to my belief about Homeschooling that I feel people can just sense it. They can see it in my face and right through me that it will be an absolute waste of time to try to convince or change my commitment to homeschool my four kids. This is what I would say if questioned " Did you carry these kids for 9 months each? What authority do you have over their lives? Don't you have enough worries in your own personal live to care about mine? My children are mine, all mine, my precious gifts from God. God gave them to me to guide and nurture and not to hand them over to a stranger. My children are way better off being homeschooled and thought the fear of God, wisdom, love, respect, and values than being indoctrinated and brainwashed by some devil incarnate.

My son has two more years of preschool, pre-K and private K. He’s at a half day preschool - and I’ve been heavily considering homeschooling my son for first grade and on. I don’t know how my family (my mom and dad, siblings will accept it). and then my husband was talking about the socialized ! which is so unfair. he will be socialization, there are boys and girls clubs, he plays soccer, etc. he will get that socialization regardless. And honestly school is not the “BEST” place to socialize. The kids at school they are forced to sit down and quietly in the classroom. My brothers get “silent lunch” all the time for talking to their friends . Public school is not what people are making it seem like it is.

I’ve heard from other moms similar stories. One lady said the doctor was in disbelief that her daughter was on track so she asked her some age appropriate questions and the little girl got it all right. When it comes to my children I don’t explain myself to anybody plain and simple. I could care less about a stranger or even family’s opinion on how I raise my child especially when im trying to bring them up as a christian safe during such horrible times. It makes me believe even more they are eager to indoctrinate our kids. There’s plenty of ways to keep a child social that doctor is ridiculous 🙄. It’s exhausting having to defend your decisions because the world doesn’t understand the sacrifices we make out of love for God and to take care of our children. Also, outside of normal relevant questions such as him being a doctor asking about physical well-being is fine but do not tell my child to tell me anything. My child’s opinion doesn’t dictate my parenting. What is wrong with these people? Btw the way these teachers are now, it doesn’t seem too hard to teach. I homeschool my kids I go at their pace. I’ve already seen a lot of improvement. It’s not easy but it’s worth it. The doctor was definitely under the influence of the enemy. I hope your friend and her husband hugged and prayed over their daughter. We call it projection but I think of it as witchcraft trying to plant a seed of fear doubt and unbelief inside the parent and child to sow discord. We must keep praying.

You know you’re doing a great job when your 7 year old grandson says, “ Grandma can we pray?” As a retired RN I would’ve thanked the Dr for his time and taken my child immediately out of the room. I am an American mom of 3 boys- 4 year old, 2 year old, and 1 year old. I have recently started homeschooling my 4 year old son VERY loosely (like no strict schedule whatsoever) and that alone has been a huge sacrifice not only in all the ways you mention but also emotionally. It is a huge emotional sacrifice we make when we choose to commit our energy and time into answering the never ending questions that children have and to be emotionally present for them at all times. It is something that I truly believe you cannot fully comprehend until you are in it yourself. I think the most valuable piece of advice I got from this video is when you said to simply be "emotionally prepared" for situations like this with the doctor. I am not very confrontational either, and I believe this incident would've blindsided me as well. It is incredibly valuable advice to tell mothers to be emotionally prepared for confrontation on issues that hit close to home such as homeschooling. I'm encouraged now to actually WRITE a list of the reasons I homeschool, and memorize this list. Because I've received negative comments even from my own family about my decision to homeschool and I've found myself honestly speechless when asked WHY would I choose this. So thank you to you and your sweet friend, for sharing this story, because I believe it is going to prepare and strengthen other moms who will unfortunately inevitably face this same circumstance at some point, as homeschooling is becoming increasingly criticized and demonized. Thank you for this video, and for the many others that I am now about to bingewatch 😁

I have never associated convenience with parents who decide to home school. I commend parents who make that sacrifice and ensure that they do still have socialisation they need especially when they recognise the need in children and their specific child. It hurts my heart that the doctor spoke that way and may God bless you and other parents that do this for the purpose you described 🙏🏾💕

I’m a homeschooling Mom who would have loved to have been homeschooled. I went to a very large public elementary and high school and was very lonely and it did not help me to be “socialized”. I was lost in the shuffle and my strengths and weaknesses were ignored and not cultivated.
The beauty of homeschooling is that you can provide the needs of your children academically and socially and spiritually. You can meet their specific needs. It is so rich and yes it is one of the hardest and most fulfilling things you can do!
Also, if homeschooling was truly “convenient” more parents would be doing it.
Love this video! This is a much needed conversation. ❤

It’s truly shocking when individuals no matter how educated or smart they think they are; feel like they have a say or knowledge about a topic they actually have no business to even speak let alone educate others on. Some people are really arrogant and it shows.

My sons teacher told me I need to speak to the pediatrician on getting my son on ADHD medicine, now I'm over the public schools and we are transitioning into homeschooling.
Also I hate that she had to go through this, but if it was to happen to me I would of laughed in there face. The pediatrician do not look out for the kids anymore and neither does the school. Ive never wanted to homeschooled but God has lead me here. I can't allow my son to continue to go to school an his needs are not being met because they think of him as a problem child.
Praying for all of yall! Keep up the amazing work. Stop letting these haters get you down. Homeschooling is the best way to go.

Aww, Mama! You are not lazy! The work that goes into raising and homeschooling our kids is far from being lazy! If you feel led to homeschool, that's no one's decision but yours to make! Many will try to put you down, but you are making the best decision for your family... stay strong! ❤️

I would have lost it. Don’t tell my kids to tell me anything. My kids get more social time homeschooling than when they were in public. Plus my kids reading and graded tests don’t lie.
I’d switch drs asap personally. It’s convenient for me to get 6 hours alone but here I am never getting a break 😅 we took our kids out of public school because the administration failed my son. Traumatized my son. So I pulled both of my kids. They had so many gaps. And now are getting closer to where they need to be. And have healed from trauma given to them by public school.

    • @lifewithginab
      @lifewithginab  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I'm so sorry your kids have trauma! :( and I am so glad that you pulled them out and are homeschooling and they are healing. Someone really close to me has a lot of trauma from being hit by a teacher while in public school. They were only able to open up about it when they were older. I'm so glad we can take care of our kids and offer them a safe place to learn and grow ❤️

My son is currently in public school and everyday I worry for his safety and the bullies he's encountering as we speak. I am thinking of doing either charter homeschool or the online homeschool with Acellus, still kind of confused and seeing what best for me.

  • @everydy

Also to add, do you know why parents' educational attainment is irrelevant to the outcomes of homeschooled children? It's the quality of the relationship between the caregivers & children. RELATIONSHIP MATTERS! It's very hard to learn from someone whom you don't have a good relationship with.

The doctor in the state we lived in before my eldest was of school age, gave us some flack for not having our kids in daycare or preschool. I always reminded them that I taught prekindergarten and have a degree in early childhood education. There was also, no way that we would have been able to afford it. We wouldn't have qualified for any assistance and more than half of my paycheck would have gone to daycare even with the staff discount. It just didn't make sense.
We recently moved to a new state and agreed that homeschooling would be the best choice for our family. When we saw the new pediatrician, I was prepared to defend my choice but was shocked when the pediatrician only asked if we were joining a co-op and other activities with other kids her age. She told me other than that, she doesn’t care if my kids aren’t in public school.

I would ask him where he actually studied about home schooling, because everything he said goes against all the statistics. I would fire that doctor on the spot. That is so manipulative.
