Wow, great song and performance! Well done Barry and Ricky, you are truly what one would call 'the best'. Your uplifting style and emotion-filled vocals will surely entertain the world till the end of days...!
This seems to be the happiest that Barry has been in the years since he lost his brothers and no wonder. Ricky is a very good vocal match to him and the band is terrific. I would like to see Barry write some songs like this and record them with this ensemble. Bless his heart.
This was a 1901 composition by Tin-Pan Alley composers Will D. Cobb (lyrics) and Gus Edwards (music). This version, like most performed today, is derived from the 1929 recording by Burnett and Rutherford: th-cam.com/video/bks0CYDO9ws/w-d-xo.html. There's a 1904 recording by Henry Burr which is more faithful to the original composition: th-cam.com/video/eFQA_79XUSk/w-d-xo.html, but as often happens, it was simplified (in a charming way, I might add) when it came into old-time music.

Have you gotten the lp "Greenfields" yet? And before that, Barry's solo lp "In The Now"
If I'm not amongst the dying...
...when does man understand the futility of war?
Thank You for this wonderful song!
Sir Barry, I love your rendition of this country song. Wished you have included in the album “greenfields” this wonderful song.
