- This guide goes through McGinnis's kit, lots of ability combos and how to use items to enhance your McGinnis gameplay with detailed instruction
I'm always live on / sacriel and mirrored to this channel
I have several hundred hours in Deadlock from before the NDA was dropped, if you have any questions about game mechanics, items or characters hop into chat on Twitch and I'm happy to help!
Turret build is so much fun on McGinnis. You actually missed what I think is the most key component of the turret build, which is echo shard. Echo shard lets you instantly place 2 turrets instead of just 1. Also, each time you use echo shard, it adds +1 to your turret supply, so the turret economy is a lot easier to manage. Once you get this item the build feels incredibly strong.
Another tip is that when you are doing turret build make sure to build heroic strike or aura or whatever it is. The passive ability is that your minions fire 40% faster, it may actually surprise you but your turrets are considered minions, and automatically get a 40% AS boost. Then the active adds 25% to you and all nearby allies, which also includes your turrets. So when you use the active, and have your healing spell on the ground, the turrets are firing like 5x a second, and they absolutely melt anyone who comes into their range.
Final tip is when you are doing a turret build, your ultimate becomes an absolute terror since it scales incredibly well with spirit power. 3 seconds or so and you will melt almost anyone from full, and with its range you can catch people by surprise. my favorite thing to do when a team is pushing up the lane, in the mid - late game, is put out 2-3 turrets close to me, then launch a long range ultimate. many times the assassins will dive onto you and overextend into all of the turrets.
Check out my latest post, i think refresher is more powerful than echo, it lets you place 2 turrets back to back but also refreshes ALL OF YOUR CHARGES! so you can have ten turrets
@@sacriel thanks will try, echo shard low cd helps alot to farm monster tho
@@sacriel Definitely insane but the cooldown is 200s on Refresher, Echo only 21s
Tbh i think its better to use echo shard to use Double wall. Its an insane spell in teamfights
Love these guides. I didn't really understand what was so great about McGinnis, because the turrets seemed so secondary with their short lifespan and tickle-damage at the start. And yes, the in-depth combo demonstrations really help, especially on Bebop.
Turrets are a very strong skill, but they are fully revealed at 30 thousand value
I have a build I want to make a video because no one talks about it.
Get echo shard, refresher and run cool down And duration
Mid-late game you can have about 14 turrets up
@@jomeiisaboss I have been playing McGinnis with a turret build using Echo Shard and it's so much fun! I've never bought Refresher before, because of the long cooldown, but I didn't realise it also refreshes all the charges! That's insane!
you can actually use your ult in close range if you just look straight up - it lands on yourself
Hey sac, really enjoying the guides! Something that would be handy at least for me would be example builds. I understand that a lot of deadlock is seeing what your opponents have going on and itemizing accordingly, but seeing either example builds or one's you've had success with in game could be a nice touch. Appreciate the videos as always mate
100% agree. Im just starting out and between work and Uni I have no time to read through everything and come up with builds after a few hours of playing. Example builds would go a long way of carrying beginners like me through learning the game until you know enough to adjust your build.
I needed this because I was just blindly following in game guides and I didn't really "get" this character, I could see the potential but I couldn't work out how to bring it out, you can't ask for a better teacher than Sacriel so I'd love to see a detailed breakdown like this for every character o7
I can't believe I didn't think about the quicksilver on McGinnis. Very good guide!
Great Deadlock videos! Atleast I am loving how you break down skill and how to use them on diffrent situations. Keep up the good work!
Learning so much from these videos. Please keep them coming!
Neat guide, will definitely try to apply some of the tips whenever I start playing my first few matches.
There is one thing of note about the ult though. You mention on how you can aim higher to better arc the rockets to hit enemies behind cover, however if you aim directly up the rocket will land on top of you allowing it to hit enemies who are in your face. It's awkward, but could be helpful in a pinch.
This is perfect, more tutorials just like this please. Love it.
I appreciate the guide! I've played quite a bit over the past 9ish days I've had access to the game and most of my hours are on McGinnis I'd say. I like what you said about the fog of war and the turrets. That's something that took me a bit to figure out in lane phase and it really does help keep up the lane pressure. Lane pressure is king in this game and the rev on her gun can make it hard in my opinion, which is where I disagree with you.
Despite having a decently sized starting mag which allows you to sort of cycle and spray your bullets as you mentioned, her bullet velocity feels horrendous. A lot of laners will have faster bullet velocity than you which makes denying you pretty easy. The 500 weapon item for velocity is also worthless as the impact isn't really felt on this champ, I think due to the spray mechanic on her gun. In lane, you need to single hit orbs. Your first shot will always be straight in front of you so if you're fast you can just snipe orbs as opposed to spraying. Honestly, I think a good McGinnis laner would do a bit of both. There are times where spraying to last hit and secure an orb is good, but there are also times when single shotting is better. I think it's mostly feel, but single shotting to deny feels stronger.
I have tried prioritizing my gun damage and, while your DPS is certainly absurdly high, I actually feel quite useless. Your DPS comes from a fully revved up gun. Yes, you can buy Heroic Aura and similar items to boost your fire rate, but at the end of the day you're relying on a long enough engagement to rev up and mow people down. The higher in MMR I've gotten the less reliable these engagements are. It takes some bearing down on you by Abrams in team fights and solo assassinations in a side lane, where you should succeed mind you, to come to terms with the identity of McGinnis. As McGinnis, you need to win every single 1v1 when an enemy engages on you and your turrets. The identity of the champ is to side lane and punish enemies in this fashion and occupy space in team fights for your team. You're a sort of side lane support.
The best games I've had are by-and-far the games where I prioritized my turrets via items and spacing. When it comes to itemization, you need to be very careful when spending large sums of souls. Spending 3k will determine your power for the next inevitable fight. Maybe you get lucky and can farm another 3k or more, but in MOBAs there will always be inevitable fights and you need to itemize for them. In Deadlock you have 4 slots each for the specific item types, so when theory crafting itemization it's important to lock in those item choices first.
For Weapon items, I believe the 4 items you should prioritize are Basic Mag, Slowing Bullets, Soul Shredder Bullets, and Heroic Aura. Fleet Foot is great but it's optional IMO. If you need the movement, get it. Titanic Mag is an upgrade for later, so do not get it ASAP. Soul Shredder bullets are a great buy ASAP and after that Heroic Aura should be self explanatory. With the slow upgrade in your turrets and Slowing Bullets, an opponent will be slowed down to 56% of their move speed. You can always buy 500s like Monster Rounds and sell them later.
Your 4 Vitality items are a bit more flexible, but they include Enduring Spirit (which you can sell later), Extra Stamina and Spirit Lifesteal. Following those and upon selling Enduring Spirit you have 2 more slots and a combination of Healbane, Inhibitor and Leech should comprise those two slots. At some point you should upgrade Extra Stamina to Superior Stamina of course.
Spirit is where your identity lies. While her spirit scaling isn't phenomenal, the fact that her turrets are DPS and apply effects make that okay. We should build to enhance her turrets, not necessarily strengthen them, and by doing so the turrets will flourish. I think you covered this part pretty well. The 4 mandatory items are Extra Charge, Mystic Reach, Mystic Vulnerability and Suppressor. Mystic Slow is a crucial upgrade to prioritize (from Suppressor). The 30% slow it provides further reduces the enemies movement speed down to 39% when combined with the turret upgrade slow and Slowing Bullets. This makes enemies that jump on you or fight in your zone of control miserable and this is what you want as McGinnis. You want your enemies to be miserable when trying to deal with you, frankly. Yes, 100% gun builds are cool and the DPS feels great, but honestly you don't even get to use it much when the rest of your kit is worthless.
For Flex Slots, you want 2 more Spirit items at least, which could include Quicksilver Reload and Improved Cooldown. QR is very good on your turrets as mentioned. Improved Cooldown really helps you establish and move your zones of control as the game moves on and teams move around the map. Flex items are inherently more situational, so I think the remaining items from Weapon and Vitality plus whatever you feel works in the current game state is fine. IMO these 12 items are absolutely crucial for the champion to truly work. Again, my best games were easily turret games as opposed to gun games. That's not to say I haven't won with ridiculous Objective Damage by prioritizing my gun - I have - but the champ is stronger all around, team fights and all, when prioritizing your turrets and zoning tools.
This is the best McGinnis' guide I've watched, really helped me! :) Waiting for more
Been playing a lot of her recently and late game she is an absolute terror LOL. I think I found the character I'm going to main. Awesome guide as well. Taught me some things I didn't know.
Was struggling with McGinnis thanks for the tutorial hope this helps my McGinnis gameplay
Third. I was really looking forward to this breakdown. Thank you Sac.
Bronze medal for you
She is my fav hero in this game so far! so much fun to play!
Great tutorial, love the examples! Maybe I should actually give this char another try..
One thing you missed, the ult can be used in a 1v1 or 1v6 if you stand in a doorway. If they get too close just shoot the door or wall for splash damage. Also items like colossus can be activated during the ult, so you can adjust your level of committment to the ult, especially for starting team fights
Very nice guide and you’re good at showing examples! How are you making the enemy dummy so an ult without switching to their POV?
Amazing Guide. The best one which i see. 😊
Sorry, im not understand english perfectly, then i Will to ask here:
1- What does Greens to use?
2- what is better: turret mcgin or machinegun mcgin?
this is just perfect! thank you!!
Did you make a guide mate?
I bet if you made a guide and separated the items by turret or gun build in the same guide, instead of by early/mid/late like everyone else.... You would become #1 build and household name. Just saying
Love the guides!
A tip for future guides though. When going through skills it would be nice if you moved your facecam so it doesn't block the ability text you are talking about.
I love turrets! Used to play Heimerdinger in LoL back in the day
The new updates just dropped !!! Please can you do possibly the best weapon build on her ? High fire rates , longer megs and high damage .
once you get lucky shot and lifesteal the RAMBO MODE IS ON
Oh wow, that's a lot of really usefull information here. Crazy
that 93000 haze must've been insane
This video is amazing holy sh*t
great guide!
Love the content
Nice Guide. I'm terribly bad in shooting games and my aim is awful. But I keep winning with Mcginnis by split pusing and taking objectives. Even though I always feed on lane
Very nice vid ty
huge w to you, awesome guide
In a turret build, do i want intesifying magazine, or is soul shredder bullets better?
Soul Shredder scales much better into late game
We need more guides please, Seven next
she really got hurt with the active reload nerf
I like the indepth guides. I dont understand ehy i am buying or how to best utilize the character
So because the turrets snapshot, does this mean the spirit power amp from escalating wont work on turrets already placed? I know they'll benefit from the spirit resist shred
4:41 How can you get up to 5 turrets? Was this recorded several weeks ago?
You can get over ten, the ability to has 2 charges and I think recharger gives 3 more charges maybe I’m misremembering I’m infront of the game atm, by the time you’ve placed 4 the cooldown will have reset to give you 5 anyway
Question, is there a way to build here for both gun and spirit?
Ironically, I one tricked Mei and Torb, the Wall and Turret heroes in Overwatch, but McGinnis doesn't scratch the same itch
whats the difference between spirit lifesteal and eduring spirit?
Do turrets benefit from bullet and spirit armor
what is your build called, i cant find it on the browse?
heere all the engeniers mains :)
20:50 that's me! 🤣
Walker Cape
I got 20 minutes in and it all became to complicated for my stupid brain... Ill just go, dmg, dmg dmg!!!
love your videos 100% but how to get yous builds :)
Gerhold Land
Do u have builds in the browse section?
I have a bebop build, search Sacriel. Though it is before the recent patch and nerf
is there a build for this in game?
I don't have a McGinnis build in game. I usually build as I go depending on the round.
McGlynn Street
Hudson Ridge
Graham Mill
Jazlyn Ferry
Jody Forest
McKenzie Drive
Metz Lights
Jettie Trail
Rosalinda Manors
Lura Mountains
mcgiggles
Wintheiser Rapid
when showing off the heal's last upgrade you forgot to actually buy it so you healed the same amount
edit: okay just tested it and it would've healed roughly twice as much health (I bought the same items you did). so not exactly true that it's "not much of a change"
oopsie! i thought something felt wrong
Hi
HOWDY!
Ole Hill
they say shes the weakest char
More like slowest
no way. i’d keep playing her even if she was bad tho, i love a minigun
Every character can be insane just like in every moba.
Yes hard to play good
Kuhlman Mall
Gaylord Valleys
Can someone reach to me that can send me a game invite?
12:45 the healing is underwhelming because you didn't level the ability. The +5% max health is properly insane, especially with the increased range in a spirit build, your whole team will profit from it. I ended a game with 55k healing recently
