Fan of your cannel as well MF. I'm going to put my tip here as well since I saw you not use it in one of your recent videos. The zipline boost doesn't end when you leave the zipline. You can boost back to base, heal up, then boose back to lane. Very helpful when you still have a lane shop since you can just heal and buy when you get back to lane.
I genuinely had no clue how MOBAs really worked, so the quick overview was pretty nice just to have a better grasp of the base concepts. Thanks for the breakdown and beginner options!
This is a great intro! For movement, I would recommend learning to dash-slide constantly. The slide carries your dash momentum for a bit, and is generally a fast way to move around the map. Especially on ramps/stairs. Also, sliding gives you unlimited ammo, which allows some characters to DUMP into an enemy for free.
Pro tip: hold down ALT and you can draw on the map. Use it to coordinate with your teammates, or express your artistic talents, both are valid use cases
Starter tip: most of the buils you can browse are catered to the builder’s playstyle. If you want your best experience, find one with items you want to build, BUT build your own into it and see what suits the hero best. Wraith has a lot of gun builds, but speccing into spirit cooldown and damage for her first ability can be a deadly combo too! Just an example.
A tip I want to add for players new to MOBAS in general. Unless you are going true tank, investing into damage early is often more impactful than investing into defense. I generally grab the healing item first but that’s a personal QOL thing for me. A follow-up, a VERY important one for any moba: if you are losing lane, THAT is when you build beefy early. If you’re getting stomped, it doesn’t matter how much damage you buy, they will have bought MORE, so they will win damage trades every time. At that point your goal is not to kill them, your goal is to get defensive items so can farm minions and SURVIVE.
Really happy to see you're enjoying Deadlock and making videos on it! From a viewer, though, please just focus on having fun with something that isn't Destiny and don't get overwhelmed with making content or streaming too too much.
Very good guide, Datto! To add on, I'd suggest getting to know the zip lines better. If you get on the zip line, you can be shot and stunned for a few seconds which makes escapes hard. Make sure to run a little further than you would think so you can escape safely. After three seconds of riding a zip line, you will get a blue shield that prevents the stun, but you can still take damage during this time. Keep that in mind if you are playing against a Grey Talon or a Vindicta as they have long range high damage attacks that can still kill you. As for using the zipline speed boost, there's a really long cooldown. Don't use it out the gate. That doesn't actually do anything since you can't really rush someone early and expect a kill without minions or weakening them. Use it when you first die. That'll let you rocket right back to the fight and clean up anyone who doesn't follow rule 13. In the later game, use it only to save a lane guardian or walker or help your team out with a group fight. I often play assassin type characters like Lash and Yamato and being able to zip quickly and then jump past the enemy team makes for some great ganking.
Zip line boost lasts for 30 seconds, so optimal use for it is to rush back to base to heal then rush back, similar to how teleport to base works in other MOBAs
Great vid Datto! My tip is to use your slide for movement. Any time you’re walking down a slope you can press crouch to slide down the slope, which will be faster and give you infinite ammo as long as you’re sliding. You can also hold crouch after a dash to slide out of the dash, which lets you keep the momentum from your dash over a longer distance without using 2 stamina bars like a dash-jump does. Sliding really helps you move faster while using less of your stamina to do so.
On the movement section, the momentum from the dash jump is STRONG. Most characters who lose movement or get slowed down by their own ability, like Viscous' Cube or Pocket's first ability, you can hold that momentum and make that particular move high speed or have SOME movement for your offensive or defensive need.
I'm early in the video and this could get mentioned but another great way to learn is to hit "Watch" in the main menu and the 1st page is generally the higher skilled games taking place right now. You can spectate people playing a hero you want to learn and use that to pick up on things they do and how they build their character
Ive never played mobas but this game looks way too good. Might have to actually fall down this rabbit hole. Love the content! Looking forward to more!😁
Great starter Datto, Just wanted to add a general rule of thumb. If you arnt sure what you should be doing, do what has the highest income for low risk
i love that this game is supposed to be in an "invite only closed beta" sorta phase, but at this point it might aswell be fully released with how easy it is to give people access to the game
an example of early game items that can go surprisingly long depending on the character is Soul Shredder Bullets and Bullet Resist Shredder. Bullet Resist Shredder has an easy synergy with Mystic Shot and Tesla Bullets, the latter of the two can work with Ricochet if you really want to shred jungles. Soul Shredder Bullets on the other hand can be swapped for stuff that will inevitably outclass it... but at the same time, this depends a lot on your character: what works for a Macginnis or an Infernus may not work for Pocket or Vindicta. EDIT: another example, if you have a character with a long ass reload that would be better with the time spent reloading halved, is Active Reload. does exactly what it says on the tin, gives you a Gears of War style manual reload timing window and if you hit it, you get a buff to that mag you now have freshly reloaded. Fleetfoot is another good item as it lets you throw out the movement speed penalty while using your gun- something that may be entirely useless if your character's gun is not rapid fire. TLDR learn what works best for each character
I myself tend to avoid going into the underground section alone because if you get caught there, then you could be screwed hard by the enemy heroes if they catch you
Honestly the only thing you didn't mention was the soul urn mechanic and having seen so many teammates ignore it completely I do wish it was in this beginner video lol though I recognize that it kinda can be encompassed by the learn the map tip
not much of a deadlock player but for league I try keep certain item actives on certain keys e.g 1 is always my defensive active, 2 is my auto reset active ect. it helps me with that muscle memory of using actives for certain things. not sure how well this would translate to deadlock but I assume you can select what keybind you want certain actives to be
Add one more - sliding gives you infinite ammo during the duration of slide. Dash and then press crouch button slide . When chasing enemies running in low health, if you run out of mag don't waste time reloading just dash and slide shoot the enemy and get that kill
Quick notes on deny - for the first 10 minutes of the game, you get half the souls for last hitting, half the souls for the orb. So if you get denied, you still got at least half the soul instead of losing all of it. Furthermore, two teammates in an early lane share souls 100% -- it's not split, you both get the full amount. After 10 minutes though, all the souls are in the orb. If it's denied, that's literally all of it. Also, souls are now split between those in the lane, so two players wouldn't both get 100%, they would get 50% each (or even less if there's more more than two players in a lane).
Play the tutorial for a couple of hours. It really pays off when you get the hang of the map/mechanics/characters before joining a game. If there isnt an official ranking system or matchmaking system, your bound to be in games with sweaty players. Always watch your distance. Picking off candleman is fine, don't over extend into enemy space without your own candleman to back you up at least. You will be picked off by players or gankers.
Don't use the default builds, always make sure to browse builds. Also when it comes to movement, get in the habit of sliding after dodges too for extra distance and speed from every dodge.
I'm still surprised how huge the map feels. It doesnt feel like the city theme is just an afterthought to make it look cool. I only did the tutorial and 3 bot game but I don't even leave my lane except at the last minutes yet lol
Love the game icl, obviously a few things here and there that need to be changed and some characters imo are a bit strong but its a very promising game.
Pro tip: Let Datto carry you

Hello, Datto!
Can't wait for Datto to transcend to being the optimal dps Deadlock guy :)

dicks. dicks everywhere. middle fingers and dicks.
This is exactly the kinda vid I've been waiting for, and I'm really glad you made it. I'm here for Datto Does Deadlock
I think the “sell late, sell often” was the part that I got caught up on trying it out for myself, as someone who’s moba experience is Smite
Doesn't smite have those starter items that you're supposed to sell?
@@Arunnn241 not anymore, they switched to another system where you upgrade them at max level

Thanks for the effort here mate, much appreciated, I've only been playing a few days so this is a massive assist
