You should never let someone else’s skill level dissuade you from doing what you love. You may never sound like him, you may not even want to, but to have that level of skill in whatever style of music you enjoy, is definitely something to aspire to. Stevie cleaned up and was completely sober for four years before he was killed in that helicopter crash. He helped many people during that time to get sober including his own brother Jimmie who is also a great guitar player. Stevie was a great human being, well-liked and humble. He is so missed. :(

Stevie Ray did a song name “Life without you” he dedicated to his friend Charlie who owned a guitar store and repaired Stevie guitars and custom made the guitar he plays in the song, he named the guitar Charlie after he passed away suddenly. Stevie died in a helicopter crash in 1990. But you really have to listen to this song, it’s powerful.

Stevie has the opposite effect on me, in the fact that his talent only made me want to play for the rest of my life. I will never be at the level Stevie was at and I’m okay with that. What he showed me is that everybody has a passion so go find it and never let it go. My passion is music has been since I was three years old. Stevie just validated my love of music that’s all. He gave so much love to the world and that’s what I miss about him the most.

You should react to ”Voodoo Child” or his song ”Lenny,” he wrote for his wife! You should also check out Jeff Healy he is a fantastic guitarist who was blind. Other ‘tricks’ SRV did like playing behind his back included switching guitars mid solo without any break in the solo, drinking beer/etc while mid solo, playing blindfolded behind his back, and doing it all while drinking and being high as hell
He switched guitars midway thru when he broke a guitar string. Plus he too played with his teeth. Definitely the best .. gone too soon but what a catalog he left for all to get lost in the sauce👏🏼❣️

It’s difficult to explain to anyone who doesn’t at least tinker around on a guitar exactly what absurdity you’re seeing SRV do with ease. His mastery of the guitar reached levels that may never be seen again. He’s been gone nearly 30 years and his guitar playing is still transcending music. R.I.P. SRV

I love Stevie Ray Vaughan. My mom (single mom of 4) moved us to Austin Texas early 70s. I have always loved music and thank God SRV never forgot his city. SRV played @ Town Lake ( for free) peeps would bring their ice chest,blankets, lawn chairs whole family would come out and enjoy the evening. ( 7pm -10pm) SRV was a great man to the Austin community. Btw I became a subscriber because I love your good vibes good vibes thank you for being here for us
SRV was on another level with his enormous technical abilities. No one could replicate some of the techniques he used to get the sounds on a guitar that he produced.
I always love it when people who have never heard a note Stevie Ray Vaughan ever played take the time to check him out. He put every part of his being into what he played and how he played it. Clean or sober, that's how he played, every time. There is a great clip of him playing with one of his heroes, Buddy Guy, at Guy's 53rd birthday party on a cut called "Champagne and Reefer" that you should check out. The two of them together are showing so much love to each other, even as they're playing their respective asses off. Peace to you and yours - thank you for the good vibes!
About the El Mocambo, where this video was filmed - you're right, it wasn't a huge venue - seating 450, but the had amazing bands there, usually ones just before they hit the big time. The Rolling Stones even did an impromptu concert there in 1977. It's in Toronto and was my favourite place for good beer and great music.
Stevie was the greatest blues guitarist by far. You'd be amazed at the talented guitar players. Roy clark and the odd couple show. He plays a 3 minute song unedited with a studio audience and it is something to behold. Pure genius.
The beautiful chit between his ears and in that head, coming out to hands and fingers... amazing the depth of feeling has putting out... not looking at the strings.... he's seeing them notes in his head instantly to the strings... lol
The video that started me following him was cold shot. You should do that one it shows just how much Stevie Ray Vaughan loves his guitars because in this video his woman is talking second place too his guitar playing. It is truly a tribute to his wife and all she put up with.
Stevie Ray Vaughan was not only possibly the best glues guitarist to ever play, but the most humble human being ever, who never stopped worshiping all the blues players who handed it right back. Eric Clapton once said that he could only listen to SRV play two songs or so until he wanted to give up the guitar. You'll notice that he spends most of this song either with his eyes closed or not looking at the guitar. And he never learned to read music, so everything was by ear or by memory. And what he did at the end of this one is something no human being should ever try. he and his guitar are like Mitch Grassi and his voice - anyone else can only try for second best...
He put his,soul into every note he played, and you can see it in his face. A gift frim God, who didn't tell us he was a gift we couldn't keep. R.I.P. S.R.V.

one of the greatest live events in music history ever. Very few people in attendance were aware that they were a part of absolute music history. And it happened at a club called The El Mocambo... No one person was born before or since who was fit to his guitar 100% like Stevie Ray. It'll never happen again. He made Eric Clapton walk off side stage at a performance in bewilderment... nothing like "God" being bested right to his face. His face and photos are still everywhere in establishments in Texas. I lived in Denton (north dfw) for a time and every decent respectable eatery has his face somewhere..
He started playing when he was 7. He was playing night clubs in south Dallas as a teenager! Great choice for your first. No matter which tune you choose next... you will not be disappointed. He is the GOAT!!

Two guitar wizards who were masters of their craft and both taken from this life way too young (35 yrs & 25 yrs). That show was at The El Mocombo in Toronto Ontario Canada. The room holds about 700 people. I attended a surprise concert and album recording of The Rolling Stones there in Match of 1977.
I was fortunate enough to see SRV in Dallas a few weeks before he passed opening up for among others Eric Clapton. He was now sober and hitting on all cylinders Even Clapton said you have just witnessed the greatest of ALL time .

I was there and he snorted so much coke before and during the show, the man was the only one sweating. I love SRV only wished he's was with us longer, we lain him to rest here in Dallas, Tx 500,000 showed up and he was sober to two years.

That's the El Mocambo club, in Toronto. I used to live there (Toronto, not the club...). It has two floors with live music and low gee-dee ceilings. It gets mighty hot in there. As you can see. I played there in a couple of punk bands, back in the early 90's.

Caught him on a radio show when the DJ said "you have to hear this". After that I never missed a concert when he was in town. Best live shows ever & the party started in the parking lot of the venue before even getting into the show. I miss him .

Love this man and his talent. He always would sweat even outdoors and large colosseums. At times he would stay n keep playing long after the show was to end. He's been known to play till his callouses were coming off his fingers and he found superglue, glued them back on and kept playing. He was the master of guitarist. If Jimmie Hendrix had lived they would have been epic together. On TH-cam there is a video of one time they played together. Could've been the only time they played together. Other guitar masters are Santana and Joe Bonomassas

Keep in mind, he was completely self taught, his biggest influence was every guitarist he ever heard. Died sober, a true inspiration to many who came after him, he will only cease to exist, if he is forgotten. I will keep his memory alive as long as I can.

I always love it when people who have never heard a note Stevie Ray Vaughan ever played take the time to check him out. He put every part of his being into what he played and how he played it. Clean or sober, that's how he played, every time. There is a great clip of him playing with one of his heroes, Buddy Guy, at Guy's 53rd birthday party on a cut called "Champagne and Reefer" that you should check out. The two of them together are showing so much love to each other, even as they're playing their respective asses off. Peace to you and yours - thank you for the good vibes!
About the El Mocambo, where this video was filmed - you're right, it wasn't a huge venue - seating 450, but the had amazing bands there, usually ones just before they hit the big time. The Rolling Stones even did an impromptu concert there in 1977. It's in Toronto and was my favourite place for good beer and great music.

Stevie was the greatest blues guitarist by far. You'd be amazed at the talented guitar players. Roy clark and the odd couple show. He plays a 3 minute song unedited with a studio audience and it is something to behold. Pure genius.
The beautiful chit between his ears and in that head, coming out to hands and fingers... amazing the depth of feeling has putting out... not looking at the strings.... he's seeing them notes in his head instantly to the strings... lol

Stevie Ray Vaughan was not only possibly the best glues guitarist to ever play, but the most humble human being ever, who never stopped worshiping all the blues players who handed it right back. Eric Clapton once said that he could only listen to SRV play two songs or so until he wanted to give up the guitar. You'll notice that he spends most of this song either with his eyes closed or not looking at the guitar. And he never learned to read music, so everything was by ear or by memory. And what he did at the end of this one is something no human being should ever try. he and his guitar are like Mitch Grassi and his voice - anyone else can only try for second best...

one of the greatest live events in music history ever. Very few people in attendance were aware that they were a part of absolute music history. And it happened at a club called The El Mocambo... No one person was born before or since who was fit to his guitar 100% like Stevie Ray. It'll never happen again. He made Eric Clapton walk off side stage at a performance in bewilderment... nothing like "God" being bested right to his face. His face and photos are still everywhere in establishments in Texas. I lived in Denton (north dfw) for a time and every decent respectable eatery has his face somewhere..
He started playing when he was 7. He was playing night clubs in south Dallas as a teenager! Great choice for your first. No matter which tune you choose next... you will not be disappointed. He is the GOAT!!

Two guitar wizards who were masters of their craft and both taken from this life way too young (35 yrs & 25 yrs). That show was at The El Mocombo in Toronto Ontario Canada. The room holds about 700 people. I attended a surprise concert and album recording of The Rolling Stones there in Match of 1977.

I was there and he snorted so much coke before and during the show, the man was the only one sweating. I love SRV only wished he's was with us longer, we lain him to rest here in Dallas, Tx 500,000 showed up and he was sober to two years.

That's the El Mocambo club, in Toronto. I used to live there (Toronto, not the club...). It has two floors with live music and low gee-dee ceilings. It gets mighty hot in there. As you can see. I played there in a couple of punk bands, back in the early 90's.

Caught him on a radio show when the DJ said "you have to hear this". After that I never missed a concert when he was in town. Best live shows ever & the party started in the parking lot of the venue before even getting into the show. I miss him .

Love this man and his talent. He always would sweat even outdoors and large colosseums. At times he would stay n keep playing long after the show was to end. He's been known to play till his callouses were coming off his fingers and he found superglue, glued them back on and kept playing. He was the master of guitarist. If Jimmie Hendrix had lived they would have been epic together. On TH-cam there is a video of one time they played together. Could've been the only time they played together. Other guitar masters are Santana and Joe Bonomassas

ElMacombo is a legendary venue in Toronto Ontario Canada. I was at this show in the early 80’s. This is after SRV quit the David Bowie tour. Think of his guitar solo on China Doll
Keep in mind, he was completely self taught, his biggest influence was every guitarist he ever heard. Died sober, a true inspiration to many who came after him, he will only cease to exist, if he is forgotten. I will keep his memory alive as long as I can.

I'm not even 1/100th as talented as either of them and never will be, but I have fun with it and love to listen to their god like jams whenever I need a reset to chill after a long or hard day.
