      Yeh like that one, you can argue he's overrated, not the best by modern day standards, but most modern rock lacks soul. Apples and oranges.

    Eric Clapton said he was "in awe" of Stevie Ray. He said most guitarists, himself included, kind of have an idea of what they're going to do, but with Stevie Ray it was like the music just flowed out of his fingers without any thought. I mean look at his face, he's in another zone when he's playing. Such a tragedy that he died so young. I was lucky enough to see SRV and the band live. It was an outdoor venue so the intensity was a little less but it still was absolutely incredible.

    • @davidwalker5054
      @davidwalker5054 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I've noticed when Stevie is in the Zone something seems to take control of him from out in the ether he doesn't seem to be consciously aware of what he,s playing. I once read an article when Stevie said. When I start to think about what to play next I begin to loose it. That's the sign of a true musician playing from the heart

    • @bettyrose959
      @bettyrose959 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@davidwalker5054 Was a white boy who paid his dues on the Austin Circuit back in the day. Paid with some of the greats when he was a teenager. You didn't have a spot on that stage 'thinking.' Anyway, that old blue scene was amazing back in that day. Still had the great Juke Joint bands. Was amazing where he was able to go with it. Not many in ones lifetime that have a natural capability, regardless of what that capability is. That is God Given, whatever god gave it to him. That crash took almost all of Eric Clapton's tour too. Just put that show together Stevie/Clapton. Was like the 3rd or 4th show of the tour. Was far more devastating than a lot of people realize. Stevie wasn't the only great taken that day. I even remember where I was standing when they announced it happened. I was buying strings at the local music store. Was only about 50 miles from where it happened. Can't remember the town or the name of the store, we had some miles to drive. I didn't pay attention other than guitar strings and Taco Bell.

    Minutes before this show he was reportedly coked out of his mind, to the point where his band mates didn’t really know is if he’d be able to play. As incredible as that sounds, what’s even more incredible is that once he kicked the drug habit, he became even better! Listen to his Austin City Limits show for a clean Stevie. ‘Tin Pan Alley’ with Johnny Copeland is a must too.

I watched him play with his band for one hour then when his band took a 20 minute break he continued on a stool with an acoustic guitar then back on his electric guitars for over an additional hour plus two encores...he never stopped. Phenomenal.

It’s you and others like you that keeps him and his music alive! I love watching a younger generation not just discover him for the first time but genuinely appreciate him and his craft. This stellar performance---still the greatest I've ever seen and heard in regards to guitar playing (being absolutely LOADED with flawless technical precision, incredible feeling, massive tone, and remarkable showmanship)---is even more impressive when you understand that Stevie is doing this on an instrument with heavy-gauged strings and high action!! How he's able to bend, manipulate, and control them while playing from the front, let alone BEHIND THE BACK, is simply mind-boggling!! By the way, Stevie was nearly as kind and humble of a man as he was a fantastic guitarist!!

    What an incredible guitarist and singer Stevie Ray Vaughan was, Texas Flood is epic and yes, as you say, Anthony, he plays the guitar behind his back! I remember the first time I saw this on yt a while ago now, I couldn't believe it, I think my jaw hit the floor, just awesome! It's so sad to think that SRV tragically died in a helicopter crash in August 1990, at the age of 35. It's great that we can still enjoy this man's music and amazing guitar playing. • @neilpatrickhairless
      @neilpatrickhairless หลายเดือนก่อน

      Indeed. This guitar was famous for being in rough shape as well. His tech Rene would literally have to strip wires of their covering and put the pieces of covering on the ball ends of the strings so the bridge didn't break them because it was so corroded and eaten up with sweat. Also, he had pretty high action on his guitars... Most guitarists wouldn't physically be able to play chords on it much less bends unless they ran bridge cables for strings and high action themselves. He didn't need a $5000 piece of furniture to get his point across and believe me, he could have had any guitar he wanted on the planet for free regardless of price

    • @Huckleberryheretic
      @Huckleberryheretic หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @neilpatrickhairless absolutely. I've heard the stories about number one in particular being built so many times. His music brings back some good memories of my dad and I cruising and listening to his stuff.

    Clapton once remarked how Stevie inspired many newbies to pick up a guitar, and many experienced guitarists to hang up theirs.

    Stevie was a prodigy and steeped himself in the study of blues guitar with mentors like Buddy Guy and Albert King. Theres video of him jamming with Albert too.

    Stevie was known for singing with his guitar. He always had few words in every song but always let his guitar get the message of his music out

    Great performance. SRV is an incredible artist. T-Bone Walker and JImi Hendrix played behind their back (and head) and with their teeth before Stevie. All extremely gifted although I personally put Hendrix first. I think it is hard to pick a #1 greatest guitarist as they are each unique. Sadly, Jimi and Stevie died tragically way too young, RIP. Thank you both for sharing your natural muscial gifts with the world❤Thank you Anthony for reacting to this one.
