UURIG Phone Clamp: External mics + cables with DJI Osmo Mobile 6!

  • I felt that this product was underrated for solving a specific use case that I felt compelled to provide a review. TL;DR- It definitely solved my problem with my DJI OM 6.
Gimbals require load balancing, and having an external microphone especially ones that requires cables will make it difficult to have a nice experience with the gimbal.
My use case is that I want to pass audio from my wireless microphone to the video without relying to sync a backup (or only) recording in post. I had a bunch of problems securing magnetic clips for my Rode Wireless Go II from another retailer, and in desperation, found this.
The current 3.9 rating on Amazon made me try to look for something else, but upon finding nothing else, I gave it a try. And I’m so glad I did.
Again, my expectations given the load balancing won’t be high because I would not expect this to work with anything heavier or more extensive in cabling than my setup.
And it works with my Apple case (iPhone 14 Pro). One important note though: With the case attached, it matters that the clamp is positioned halfway on the phone in terms of vertical orientation. I did experience some unbalanced load when it’s slightly off, and the gimbal felt that it operated more smoothly without the case.
5-stars for surprisingly solving my problem, and hopefully helps to upvote this accessory.

Great recommendation! Did you try it with any type on nd filter over the lens?

Thank you! I haven’t tried filters with my iPhone because I don’t have a case for them, but I’m open to recommendations please! 🙏🏼

Maybe using a 90 angle type c cable can prevent the cable from getting bumped

I do have a 90 angle cable that is a lightning adapter. But it can still get in the way for panning left and right with the DJI Osmo Mobile 6.

I would recommend giving other wireless mics a try where the transmitter can be plugged directly into the phone (ie DJI mics) and see how its weight impacts the gimbal motion. But I prefer Rode audio quality than DJI. I have yet to try my new Rode Wireless Pro with this setup.

@@bluetysproductionsi want this same thing you are mentioning. To use rode wireless mics with dji om6 and i too prefer rode mic to dji mics. And have same problem. Thanks for trying this out. Please update if you have tried rode wireless pro with dji om6 and succeeded without effecting motors on dji om6. Thank you

Interestingly, I did try again with my Rode Wireless Go II using the UURIG clamp while walking around in San Diego. I didn’t have any issues with the USB-C to Lightning cable, but admittedly I did not heavily pan or tilt the gimbal to end ranges.

I do have the Rode Wireless Pro but have not tried it. However, it feels the same weight as the Rode Wireless Go II so it should behave the same way.

How did you install your microphone to your gimbal

The UURIG Phone Clamp has a cold shoe mount where I can slide the Rode Wireless Go 2’s transmitter clip.
