It was only pretend. This was a rehearsal ahead of the official opening of the airport. As long as you aren't looting from the temples (which of course you wouldn't!) you will be fine. Thanks for watching.

This randomly appeared on my feed, and coincidentally, ill be taking a flight from this new airport next week lol I was supposed to fly out from REP but they changed the departure airport to SAI instead, so this video was nicely informative. My only concern is why the airport so far, and do you know of any way to get from the city to the airport?

I received an email from Lufthansa yesterday that the Singapore - Siem Riep section of my flight next year was canceled and now re-booked to land at the new Siem Riep International airport. I was kinda expecting that so all good. Looks nice and top drawer that they do these test runs and shows a pride in wanting to feel good and customers feel good arriving and departing. What a lovely day as well, late August here in Hamburg so grey raining dismal weather around 12°c. I wont miss this at all :o)

You would think they would improve the road simultaneously while building the airport, but maybe that would make too much sense. Anyway, the two of you were very lucky to see SAI before it opens! The new road (Expressway) down to route 6 was part of the Chinese airport contract. Apparently the government will connect road 60 to the new Expressway instead of using existing road 6 which is very narrow and busy around Bakong.

Jeremy is still amazed how seriously they took the simulation 🤣😲 We did talk with a person about a larger bus that transported you to a centralised aera then Tuktuk from there.
With nearly an hour commute to the airport I don’t think it would be worth it to take the flight to pp rather than the bus especially with the $12.50 charge. I would imagine their most popular flights will be to Bangkok, Saigon, and Hanoi.

This airport is in the middle of nowhere. Considering how small Siem Reap is and thinly populated the surrounding areas are, building it this far does not make sense. Another belt and road project, of course.
This is part of growing pain when the old airport can’t accommodate large planes and growth… Soul, Korea, Tokyo, Japan, Taipei, Taiwan and many cities have airports about 45 minutes to 1 hour away from their downtown area…
Have to wait and see what happens. Poorer countries unfortunately have to take risks to get things done. Siem Reap is a tourist hub and needed to expand it's runway for larger aircraft. These plans were started in 2010 before the downturn.

Help!! I got my E-visa but the date they have for my birthdate is off by one day, so it differs in this regard to my passport. Could this cause them to deny me entry into the country?
Embassy never responded back. Live chat hasn't ever been live. I have canceled everything and will try again early next year. Had to cancel flight within 24 hours. Glad I didn't sell my car yet or rent out my place here.@@ForRiel

I don't think the distance from the city to the airport is a problem. Most international airports are some distance away from their respective cities these days.
Moving the airport further away drastically complicates matters for the exact people SR is trying to attract- those who have more money than time. It's almost a deal breaker given the problems with road safety etc.
Commuting to the airport takes longer than the flight to Bangkok, haha. One day when they tear borders between Thailand and Cambodia and build a highway between Siem Reap and Poipet, flights to Bangkok will become unpopular.

Yes to wheelchair access toilets and there were some drink fountains. No showers as at the moment it would be rare to have connections out of this airport. But in saying that I'm sure modifications could be made if needed.
I can't find a flight into SR that arrives on December 1st. I don't know if it's because of full flights or the new airport not listed. Thanks for the tour.

A bus transfer is $12.50. Bike or car parking will be coming as it's a good little earner for not much effort.

I think if you chose the option with the old REP code it would still be fine. Visa on arrival is also quick and easy.

$12.50 for bus shuttle and $30-50 for car are not expensive outside of the Kingdom of Wonder…
We are sure there will be cheaper options available soon. Cambodians always have a work around.

Well the Airport was funded and built by China vs the Roads would be done by Khmers so it’s common knowledge Can’t have everything!

We would never fly from SR to PP. $16 for a luxury bus, but we don't really care about how long it takes.

Embassy never responded back. Live chat hasn't ever been live. I have canceled everything and will try again early next year. Had to cancel flight within 24 hours. Glad I didn't sell my car yet or rent out my place here.@@ForRiel

I don't think the distance from the city to the airport is a problem. Most international airports are some distance away from their respective cities these days.
Very true and transportation into town will become cheaper with more competitors.
Moving the airport further away drastically complicates matters for the exact people SR is trying to attract- those who have more money than time. It's almost a deal breaker given the problems with road safety etc.

Agreed. Most tourists expect to travel some way from an airport to their destination and the prices for transport are pretty reasonable.

Commuting to the airport takes longer than the flight to Bangkok, haha. One day when they tear borders between Thailand and Cambodia and build a highway between Siem Reap and Poipet, flights to Bangkok will become unpopular.
High speed trains would be amazing as well.

Yes to wheelchair access toilets and there were some drink fountains. No showers as at the moment it would be rare to have connections out of this airport. But in saying that I'm sure modifications could be made if needed.
