I would fantasize about owning one (along w the Fairlight System, and the Yamaha CS-80 ), but no way would my folks shell out thousands of dollars (6k in 1981 money) for their 12 yr old son to bang away on some synth he doesn't even know how to use. The fact that I can now actually afford to own one (because I have grown up money) blows my mind! Thank you Behringer for making this a reality

Behringer took a note from that Nathan for you skit where he advises a beer store to sell beer to underage people but the caveat being that the store holds that beer in a safe until you turn 21. Just so you can say you bought it. All the new synths from behringer are the same, you can put them on backorder but not sure when they will ever be physically in your house..

Apparently they did get a load of items, i just ordered at the end of that window, and got screwed out of mine. Still hoping to one day have a B-ringer Kobol to try out. It will be my first Behringer Synth. With all the controversy Ive avoided their products, but, if I end up liking it Id also like to get the Edge but thats an equally elusive product to get.
I just gotta say you guys are absolute legends for not letting all these instruments die out as collector's items or museum pieces. You're keeping the music alive.

Wauw I noticed the polyphonic aftertouch but didn't dare to expect it. This sounds so great even on phone speakers. Splitmode, Poly AT, and various sound modes all makes so much sense.
All this hard work and R&D also makes future polysynths more feasible. Once the DS-80 is a reality, you will have achieved an absolute miracle for the synth world.
This is behringer's finest video and synth to date, the visuals, the music and the sound is utterly captivating, the testimonials at the end. Patrick you are such a talent, behringer well done on the synth, cant wait to get one.
Regardless of what it is supposed to sound "like", it just seems to generally sound good... has that 80s hi-fi vibe. Active, dynamic and organic when the filter is closed, and uber-fizz when it's fully open, without becoming a total mess in the mixer stage. 16 voices and MPE keyboard at this price is kind of what it needed to still be interesting after such a long delay with everything else that has come out. We need reviews on keyboard quality and a few other sounds.
A masterpiece... Bass, pads... At 7 minutes the track in a Vangelis style is simply wonderful... A best-seller even before his release... A new legend is born... Contratulations to you Uli and your engineers..!

Building a synth like this is difficult - you guys took it to new levels by tackling some of the hard problems - recreating the custom chips, and building a platform, both of which can derail a project on their own. I'm an engineer myself and understand the degree of dedication and depth of the challenge here. Great job! The "character" modes are quite interesting, and I can hear a lot of things happening as the mode changes - maybe just icing on the cake, but fun nonetheless.
the chips arent that custom. the original used ssm chips which are available again since a while. the cpu was a z80. nothing special. so in these days its not complicated to rebuild it if you have the schematics. i think creating patches and doing mass production takes most effort.
@@brainslayer666 Perhaps, but that certainly isn't what they did. It's probably some SOC for the controller and firmware, and Behringer makes their own silicon. They plan on using the platform for future poly synths, so it needs to be flexible.
@@JohnMarcel666 they have done a great job at the reproduction of the sound, otherwise it could sounds like with the modern mode , more flat than fat. It looks like they have put a lot of work, time, etc... for allowing the UB-XA to being able to "tuned" like an original OB-XA , and find the good settings. Well for Oberheim , it was a long time that they were congratulated for their synths, and deserves it. 🙂
I'll continue producing with my plugins for all their convenience, but it's really nice to have these toys on hand to inspire us during the creation process and for live performances! thanks Behringer!

I had a real one that I got for $500 in the mid 90’s and sold it for 500 in the early 2000’s and it was mint. No one wanted them then. I sold it because to me, it was super limited in its capabilities. Sure I regret it all the time, when the prices shot up to insane value. But this new synth is so much more. I’m going to get one.
I can't judge how close it is in a one-on-one comparison, but this breaths the 80's and when used in a track, no-one could tell the difference between this UB-Xa and an original one. So I'd say it's a 6 years ( and all those $$) well spent! A great way to bring the sound of the 80's into the present. A W E S O M E !!!
Thing is, how can you compare this with the "real thing" when the "real thing" is not a constant. Every original out there will have wear and tear, aged components. What you hear on vintage recordings will be processed via outboard gear so that won't sound like the raw unit. Such comparisons are pointless as there will always be someone who says it doesn't sound the same just to justify their expensive original. There's a lot of people who feel threatened that other people will have access to the sounds of their uncommon expensive gear. There's people who think buying this will make their music sound great, neither are good ways to think.

Best promo video Behringer ever made, best keyboard as well. I think that this time, Behringer has reached the hall of fame, with Korg, Roland, Moog and a few others. This allows a path for more flagship synths like the CS-80, since the tech (memory saving for example) can be re-used. I think it is a new beginning for Behringer.

Sounds beautiful! Nice set of features. Wood end caps. Exciting to have the opportunity to own one, whenever they actually hit the stores in the USA. I was one of those teenagers who drooled over the original, when it came out, but was way out of my budget. Would be nice to have this one, for my very own, now that I can afford it 😻
