    Voultar, thank you SO much for this wealth of information. I recently imported a heap of my favorite games from japan planning to translate them to english (even bought multiples of some games because they were so cheap as display pieces).
    This by FAR is the most valuable resource to doing this. After decontaminating myself of the cesspit of certain forums it was a great relief to watch your video and hear your ASMR worthy voice to see such a clean solution.
    You are a great teacher.

    I want you to know that as good as this video was overall, it was specifically the out-of-left-field toilet-humor that compelled me to subscribe. Hearing you explain things in a relaxed, yet earnest voice and then bust out "It's gonna take a nice, hot dump..." made me instantly lose it.

    Voultar, it's hilarious listening to your word choices: "just got to clean the tip", "sweet special sauce", "let me load my tip", "it's important I give you the best angles & positions", "now I'm going to wet my tip & just drag it along slowly"....🤣. In all seriousness I am a former Network Engineer, but I know nothing about electronics, soldering etc. I wish I did. I'd love to be able too do the things you do with PCBs & chips! But I absolutely love & thoroughly enjoy your videos! You, Sir are like Mozart with a soldering iron! a little bit of generic glue like UHU or whaterver you like, just to keep the chip from moving, you can also use a little piece of double side tape

    For the stacker, I would have thought you'd have a hole routed out in the stacker PCB then solder in the chip upside down on the bottom of the board, to keep it thin. If the PCB house is any good, you can use that hole for pin alignment as well. Maybe for V2? Thinner PCBs = easier to solder the stack together. Also, why not a 32mbit chip, instead of 2 16mbit chips?

    • @mrbiffo6729
      @mrbiffo6729 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Daamn this is amazing and a lot easier than replacing maskroms or building a repro from scratch by using one on those new PCBs, but for someone like me who only owns a few SFC games and want them translated is not cost effective :/ the dumper, then the programmer, then soldering the small flashrom chip is much complicated... if only someone would sell the prebuilt PCBs already flashed and soldered so i just have to solder the PCBs to the original maskrom it would be PERFECT.

  • @bluephreakr
    @bluephreakr 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very nice. The only thing which annoyed me was no narration about the extra little chip on the S. Stacker but I am sure the aforementioned documentation at the end will resolve that. I am pleased to see there are alternatives which are being created to the mess of wires which make amateur mods look like Hollywood-inspired time bombs. Hopefully for the NES video you recall your previous content with wiring up an NES ROM and comparing it to the new method for showing how easy it is your NES hardware would be to use for translations and mods.
    The only one caveat is no ease of removal, but there's no reason to have a bunch of mods available on chips when those can just be IPS patched and ran in emulators so no big deal there _as long as one's image is their own._

    Voultar; Talking in his sleep.
    "We're going to go ahead and make some very very very happy trees, yes look at that amazing, okay let's make some very very very light fluffy clouds. Yes look how beautiful those are. Yes Just like that. Spank it, yes. Just like that. How about that. Now let's get a little bridging done, yes just like that. We'll just float that down there, with a clean tip. Yes just like that."

    If I recall correctly, you can dump n64 games and save files with a GameShark Pro. Unforunately the interface to do this requires a parallel port (printer port) which are defunct in favor of wifi and USB.
    You said there is no GUI way of doing this, and for a SNES I agree, but I think I inadvertently did this while messing around with the GameShark as a teenager and was surprised that it was even a feature, lol. I don't think they really advertised it. "This is just a cheat device, nothing to see, move along"
    My friends never liked how I could lock multiplayer doors in Goldeneye with a key sequence, or have what is effect a golden RCP-90.

    Pretty interesting solution but I'd still not want to cut or bend the pins on the ROM chips.

      You don't have to if you watched the video...

      it's definitely possible to do it 100% reversible and in a non destructive manner if you have the patience and tools for taking out the MaskROMs.

      @@sukhoifockewulfWatched the whole video. He does not discuss that in this video. He has a separate video on replacing the ROM chip with an EPROM in Famicom carts and that's a better solution for me.

      @@tails64dsntchannel8 You'd need to add pinheaders on top of buying his board and that's a bit more expensive than buying EPROM chips and rewiring them.

      @@WilhelmDriscoll i see where you are coming from, but personally i'd gladly take the price hit for doing a clean job, if you wanna be cheap you could just use leftover component legs to do it.
      then using modern-ish flash roms instead of 20 years old UV EPROMs is very convenient.
