It will get the job done but, personally there’s tooo many situations where my phones battery could be life or death for me. Especially when I’m in the field, I’m the only human around for ~30 miles, so that battery needs to last. All it takes is one rattle snake bite or a broken leg and I’m dead.
I so agree on this as a woman in her 40's, the best gifts I have ever received in which I still carry with me wherever I go since my late teens from my wonderful brothers were my trusty mini swiss army knife and the mini maglite. Precious, functional, important.
You are my new bestie just because of the analog watch. I have a Petzl Spirit carabeiner with a Petzl Spatha knife and my 22 year old Timex Expedition, that still works, attached and with me 24/7. Watch runs on batteries, so 16 years ago I bought a Charles Hubert manual pocket watch that is perfectly operational today. It is the most lovely timepiece I've ever owned and spent less than $150 on. Again, thanks for being old school with this kinda stuff still. It's nice to have a library in your pocket but we shouldn't live on screens all day.
Analog with day-date and full numbers time index watches. Absolutely my style. My edc pocket dump are: multiool, flashlight with vertical and horizontal orientation, a lighter, and 2 meter of cordage.
Don’t forget tourniquet and blaster. The snakestaff systems edc tourniquet is super small easy to carry in back pocket. Gotta check it out if you haven’t seen it yet
I wear a Bison belt that’s fully adjustable to any size you want. Is it ment to be used as a tourniquet? No! But it will absolutely get tight enough and hold pressure to stop the bleeding. I know this because I’ve used my belt on some poor guys leg who got shot by a negligent discharge at a nye party 😅
Upgrade the zippo with a butane insert, that way your fuel does not evaporate and leave you high and dry needing a lighter. You can get classic flame or torch style inserts, do you can get what suits you.
@ yep, I recommend the actual zippo brand ones, they seem to be better built and more reliable, but there are also several other companies that make butane inserts for zippo lighters. The inserts are refillable, and even take standard zippo flints.
I’m in the Marines and I made sure to have each of these items on me at all times except for the flashlight because in the field we’d use our issued red lens lights that have one in them already. I always carried a BIC lighter in my breast pocket but I’ve never smoked. Everyone asked why I have one and I said “I always want to be able to make a fire if I need to.” and the amount of times I’ve been in the field and would’ve needed fire if something went wrong is why I had it. Something always had to be burned or cut and I was usually the one lending my knife or lighter if I wasn’t handling it myself
That is basically rhe bread and butter of my EDC. Wallet, wrist watch, Key chain, cellphone, pocket knife, pocket flashlight, a handkerchief and my Compact semiauto in an IWB holster.
I think Garmin watches are a good exception to the watch rule. Mine is damn near indestructible, has GPS, and it works completely independently from a phone.
100000% agree, I have several analogs cheap and luxury so I was vey hesitant to buy a smart watch, until my twin sisters got a pair. They run track and cross country, and use theirs every day to track data and performance, it wasn’t more than a month after Christmas that I caved and got one too. Love my garmin 🙌
edc is about preparedness and imo the biggest benefit of a watch is if something happens and the power grid goes down your phone is going to die in a day. if you put it in power saving mode maybe it will last up to a week, and then you have no way of telling the time. being able to keep proper track of the time is a powerful asset. how many people wear a dedicated watch anymore? people who actually know what time it is would be hard to come by in that situation.
@@zikomo8913 automatics aren't great imo. they're far more delicate (i know from experience) and people think they're more emp resistant but an emp is unlikely in the first place, and you can look up how they're likely to be unaffected because they're too small to effectively absorb the radiation wavelengths created by an emp. if you're worried about batteries then get a solar watch. keep it charged and you won't have to worry about changing the capacitor for decades. another issue is that mechanical watches are inaccurate enough that they need to be set on a regular basis from a reference clock. you might say i have my watch perfectly regulated it only loses or gains a second a day, well what about all those times you knocked it on something after the disaster started and you don't have power to check the readings on a timegrapher? it could have a broken part at worst or the regulation arm could have shifted and changed your regulation. if you don't have a timegrapher or a reference clock, it's going to take a long time for you to notice that instead of running 1 second fast per day on average, it's now averaging close to or exceeding a minute per day. for this reason, having a quartz to reference would be a good idea, but ultimately if you have the quartz you may as well just use the quartz. if you really want to carry a mechanical watch then go ahead but at least keep a quartz for backup and reference. people carry mechanical watches nowadays because they're stylish and cool, but that can work in a functioning society. going for style and cool factor over durability and practicality in a crisis scenario will get you killed. when you accidentally drop it on the ground you're going to kick yourself and say "man why did i choose a watch that breaks just from falling a couple feet?"
Those are all on my EDC except for the watch and I'm adding a watch to my EDC, thanks! I always carry a button compass in case I need to go cross country and abandon roads. I carry the tiny p38 can opener too. I have a tiny amount of tinder and a ferro rod as well. All of this around my neck. I have a pocket EDC too. Extra batteries for the flashlight are in it. I have a fanny pack in which I have a fixed blade knife, fire making, med kit, etc... Then I have a GO bag with everything you can imagine.
Instead of the last one I just wear a rucksack and items that you mentioned also great, although want to advise carrying a small basic medkit (helps me from times to times).
Same gear here. And yes, analog watch is a definite advantage. My EDC watch is an automatic (self-winding) . No battery. No winding. And by wearing it all the time it winds itself and always instantly available.
Right!? I ditched my apple watch after a year of usage. It just gets annoying when you have to charge the damn thing daily. Especially when you have your commute card on it & the battery dies. I’m using classic gshock
Pretty much what I carry. As for the fire starter, I use the butane replacement in my zippo lighter. It doesn't dry out like a normal zippo would. Also a gel pen and paper as well.
I 100% agree with knife, flashlight, and fire. And I think I might carry the same Zippo. I like my smart watch, so I disagree on that, but I totally get the "timepiece that willl keep time for a month without charging" sentiment. Also, while I don't usually carry it, I love the Bugout. It's fantastic.
I grew up on analog and the love of the art of watches but I'm a complete tech head to do I pull a Schwarzkopf and double wrist Smart/fitness on the left, real watch on the right
You nailed it. Only thing I add is a leatherman wave in a canted leather sheath on my hip, you don’t even know it’s there until you need it. Oh yeah, and a pen.
Not a former military member. Not a male. I do agree that carrying a flashlight is necessary for walking at night or for hailing a taxi. A real watch ! What happened to regular Timex watches?
I dont wear a watch. But other than that i agree. I also like a nice pen and a small tear away noteblock. Always nice to be able to write something down for someone.
He has a Pokelit AA Ti 10 anniversary edition. It produces at max 500 lumens. An average phone flashlight is 40-50 lumens with a diffused short range beam. So he is right. Big difference.
I always carry pen & paper, flashlight, knife, watch, small wallet, but don't carry fire sources unless I'm going to a party or somewhere that isn't just doing errands, like camping. I don't carry a phone because I don't want to stare at screens when I'm away from work/home.
For years I resisted getting a smart watch. I liked the aesthetic of the analog watch more. But finally I cracked and got an Apple Watch, and there’s been no looking back. Using it to look at the weather, read texts without my phone, tracking workouts, cooking timers, etc. has made it far more useful than an analog watch for me. If I go camping, I take the analog.
I always get compliments on my analog watches, $12 swatch or a $6000 omega people still notice it. I’ve never had any comment on my garmin watch though 😢
I do love the choice of a zippo for a fire source, I would say that spending a little extra for a knife or even a multi tool is worth it. Due to personal taste and for the simple fact that I can, I’ve opted for the Cold Steel SRK. Lots of folks in my area carry buck and Bowie knives and the SRK is very much purpose built without screaming Rambo.
The pocket knife, flashlight, wallet 100% everyone should carry. The watch would be good for most people, the firestarter is the one I use leas outside the house. Super useful to have at home on the desk for crafting and candles, but rarely need outside the house
I have a set for summer and a set for everything else. Knife: automatic Fox Predator or 4MaxScout Flashlight: Baton4, replaced by Baton Turbo or Seeker4Pro replaced by AcebeamW35. Lighter: smaller metal jet in the Summer, big ass plastic jet (Unilite) the rest of time A solid leather wallet for all seasons. Watch: a white Orient Solar Diver (quartz) for hot wheater and a Samsung Classic 6 LTE when its cold or rain and i need to know the weather in the next hours. Edit: a Leathem Surge with a few longer extra t-shanks
I also carry a reliable pen and a pocket notebook. Both of these are waterproof, and that actually did come in handy when i was caught in a downpour, and my pocketbook was fine after drying off. I like having something to write stuff down in and i dont like to use my phone for that.
SAK Hiker with a mini ferro rod instead of the toothpick, Knipex 4" cobra pliers, maglight aaa mini. Ezlap pocket sharping rod, a space pen, cheap timex watch. Cellphone in a holster (not pocket carry)

I made a glow-in-the-dark paracord sleeve for my zippo to stretch the usefulness. It's about 25ft of cordage that contains fishing line, tinder, snare wire, etc.
I do Set Designing for Film & Television and I literally have a pouch where I keep stuff like this in, and I also carry a pouch i put in my everyday fancier bags, each has similar stuff, but varies
My bag is a little larger than yours, I could fit a .25 or small 9mm in it. I keep a Leatherman Micra, I use the scissors frequently. For the flashlight, I picked up a AAA sized LitezAll with an adjustable beam. I bought a similar one a few months prior, it was slightly heavier and slightly longer, that had a pocket clip. I didn’t like the weight of it or that it wasn’t adjustable beam. So I put the clip on my LitezAll, it works perfectly for putting on the brim of my baseball hats. It has two inside pockets, one with a zipper. I keep meds in the zipper pocket. I’ll buy things like Tylenol, Benadryl and Pepto at the gas station that are sealed in individual doses to have at all times. Plus I keep my wallet in there.
Great video, straight to your point. I side with you on the flashlight, knife, and organizer. I wrestle with fire. I very rarely use it? I also use my smartwatch multiple times per day. Tracks my swim laps, heart rate, emergency messages, etc. I trade my fire making for a pair of Victorinox nail clippers, and I add an Anko emergency power bank.
The wallet/organizer for those items is a good idea. I would keep it seperate from money wallet, and I wouldn't put my knife on it, but for the other variety of 'edc' stuff that's a good pocket solution.
Just described what I edc. When I first heard about carrying a small flashlight I thought I'd never use it but I do literally everyday. Also fir the flashlight, consider a strobe option as it can serve as a defensive option.
Knife - I used to, but the tip broke. I'll have to get a new one. Torch - not necessary for me. Phone light is enough. Analogue watch - I have 4. 3 of which are made of wood. Lighter - I quit smoking, so I no longer carry one. Wallet - Yup. Mine's a mini wallet. I dislike big, bulky wallets.
A torch is absolutely essential! A friend of one of my siblings was caught up in the Police helicopter crash at the Clutha Bar in Glasgow a few years ago and she had to use hers. As for that wallet, I could do with that instead of ruining my pockets freeballing everything. Anyway, great vid Brother, you have a new sub!

I carry a little pocket compass, along with a full size compass for when hunting. For me the compass is a MUST HAVE but that’s because I hunt on a 40,000 acre property in the middle of no man’s land. If I can’t make it back to my truck then I’m a dead man it’s a good 30 miles to the nearest town from me.
@floopydoopy9410 You need to have balls and be prepared to go to jail if you have a "gun". With pepper spray you can disable a larger group of offenders than with a single pistol, leave and remain unharmed without causing a crime scene that might put you at risk of going to jail.
I just started carrying a small pen flash light at work. I find myself using it more and more. Also, never paid more than $40 for a watch, keeps time just as good as a $1000 piece of jewelry .
In the security field something I always made the newcomers invest in was: a good watch, a good pen and a good torch (flashlight), ideally all 3 would be ruggedised.
Can't stress enough how important a real flashlight can be. You can't see anything beyond 10m with a phone flashlight, but with a cheapo china LED flashlight anything for the next 50m is visible, with reasonably priced ones (50 - 100€) anything from 100 to 200m is well illuminated. My friend was stabbed recently while shopping, he is 62 and simply entered a grocery store, ended up getting stabbed multiple times and almost died - the attacker was assaulting the owner and my friend intervened.
Never thought this would be a common occurrence in my city, and yet...

Solid advice. The Streamlight Pen Light is crazy handy sometimes
Nebo makes a great rechargeable pen light inexpensive
Never had an issue with phone flashlights. I made it so I can double tap my power button for it, super convenient. Legitimately walked through underground tunnels with it and I was fine.
It will get the job done but, personally there’s tooo many situations where my phones battery could be life or death for me. Especially when I’m in the field, I’m the only human around for ~30 miles, so that battery needs to last. All it takes is one rattle snake bite or a broken leg and I’m dead.
Great to see someone carry pretty much the exact same edc. have the butane insert in my brass zippo.
This is very EDC urban for people that not live in the woods, finally someone that makes a lot sense this was very a rational EDC.

Dude I love carrying a small multi use tool around with me (comes in so much handy!) and rocking an analogue watch daily! The best 💯💯
Upgrade the zippo with a butane insert, that way your fuel does not evaporate and leave you high and dry needing a lighter. You can get classic flame or torch style inserts, do you can get what suits you.
That's what I use because I smoke cigars
I DIDINT KNOW THERE WAS DIFFERENT INSERTS
Great video! Finally someone that doesn't start with a handgun. When did we all get so scared?
"Cannot live without" is a strong phrase for these 5 items.
edc is about preparedness and imo the biggest benefit of a watch is if something happens and the power grid goes down your phone is going to die in a day. if you put it in power saving mode maybe it will last up to a week, and then you have no way of telling the time. being able to keep proper track of the time is a powerful asset. how many people wear a dedicated watch anymore? people who actually know what time it is would be hard to come by in that situation.
Ah, I appreciate my automatic watch even more now
That's where power banks and generators come in. You can even have solar powered power banks and generators.

I always carry a button compass in case I need to go cross country and abandon roads. I carry the tiny p38 can opener too.
I have a tiny amount of tinder
and a ferro rod as well.
All of this around my neck.
I have a pocket EDC too. Extra batteries for the flashlight are in it.
I have a fanny pack in which
I have a fixed blade knife, fire making, med kit, etc...
I just use my Casio which has a 10 year battery. Granted it has been a year already so a downside is that I am always counting down the battery life
@@crystalin_N hahaahah true. But if it’s a 10 yet battery then just replace after 10 years. Easy👍👌also own AE-1200wh🤣legend casio beater watch
Pretty much what I carry. As for the fire starter, I use the butane replacement in my zippo lighter. It doesn't dry out like a normal zippo would. Also a gel pen and paper as well.
Bro no lie I wanna know what you filmed this clip with, I love the look of the shot, camera lens, color correction etc!??
Sony fx3, Sony 28-135mm, standard colors just focused on lighting

I 100% agree with knife, flashlight, and fire.
And I think I might carry the same Zippo.

He has a Pokelit AA Ti 10 anniversary edition. It produces at max 500 lumens. An average phone flashlight is 40-50 lumens with a diffused short range beam. So he is right. Big difference.
Straight forward and reasonable, definitely subbed!
I bought a black Seagale slingbelt bag for a black Urban style for techno parties etc . Waterproof, pretty, Not big and can fit a lot of stuff
"yes there is a flashlight on your phone but it is trash" words to live by right there
1)pocket knife / swiss army knife
2) flashlight
3)watch

5)pen
6)sling bag / small bag
What kind of watch and flashlight is that? Links to the products would be good.
The second shtf I’m either dying immediately or starting a cannibal kingdom, no in between

This is the essentials, I'd argue a source to start fire might be a step beyond essentials though.
Agreed. Don’t know the last time I absolutely had to start a fire, but we all live different lifestyles, so it could be super important to some others

I'm getting so sick of all these "edc" items, knowing I'll never really need any of them except the knife.
You know, I tend not to watch content that makes me sick. Just saying.
It’s not about needing them it’s about having them. As a man you should carry these things in your pocket.
I also carry a reliable pen and a pocket notebook. Both of these are waterproof, and that actually did come in handy when i was caught in a downpour, and my pocketbook was fine after drying off.
I like having something to write stuff down in and i dont like to use my phone for that.
When do you need to make a fire? Never happens to me
I should consider the pouch. I also carry OC spray so I have to manage all this crap in my pockets which is annoying.
I clicked on this thinking it was talking about EDC The rave, I was so surprised as soon as he said a pocket knife! Lol 😂

This made me consider on how I should try to combine a phone case with a knife and a lighter. This way I'll only need my phone.
Anyway, great vid Brother, you have a new sub!

adding a knife and a flashlight are very good ideas, too. i think for me these would more be something to keep in my car. maybe i'd get a non-silly looking fanny pack or something. 😂
analog watch is cool because you can use it as a compass too! assuming it’s not high noon then uh… wait a few hours i guess
You forgot the most important one:
*Pepper Spray🌶️*
Gun
My EDC is a ThruNite TN12 I own since 2017 and a ThruNite TC15 is always in my car.
