He's a very nice and humble person. I have met him at Pune airport briefly. My family wanted to take a selfie with him but we couldn't hold the iPad properly in time. He actually took it and took the selfie himself. That shows the patience level and maturity a person has.
We're proud of you Robin Uthappa! Never back down! Keep fighting.

Only privileged people can recognize depression. Farmers who are struggling every day don't know that they are suffering from depression.
Who would educate underprivileged section about mental health?.
And for middle-class people like me

A middle class person can afford 3-4K on a session but they don't because they don't prioritise it. Just want free or cheap service for serious issue like this.

Only egoistic people get depressed. In this kaliyuga/dwapra yuga transition period 99.9% people have ego. But people reveal it in different ways. Some people don't reveal it at all. But it reflects in their lives if we look deeper. Issue is superficial ego. Our education system is very one dimensional. It just teaches us cognitive intelligence. Some of the effects of depression: can feel ones heart beat every sec, disinterest in stuff which was earlier a passion, unable to sleep deep into night, constant feeling of inferiority, binge eating. I have had all of this for 7 years and at the end of it, I managed to achieve success in my professional and personal life. One has to be patient in life to see success or even to just stop seeing failures. That’s the only solution. Counseling can help but one has to help oneself. We came alone and we will go alone. Just need to remember that.

As humans beings we long for acceptance, emotional fulfillment and to feel valued by people we may consider close to us or someone who might mean something to us in our lives but many a times that does not happen. Really, all that a human being looks for is basic respect and to be understood by others and even that is something which many a times he or she does not gets from others. Not being understood by people in the corporate world where human capabilities and talent have little value in front of targets and numbers is understandable but a lot of times a person doesn't even gets the basic care and attention he or she is looking for in their family itself. I am not saying this is true in all cases but in some cases it certainly is. Many a times your own parents don't have the time or willingness to listen to your concerns or insecurities and you know that deep inside all your friends are waiting with bated breath to see your fall in life. What does a person do in that case ? Where does he go ? As our societies turn more and more materialistic with the passing time such cases will only rise. These are the questions that have already started to haunt our societies and will continue to haunt us even more in the times to come as people turn more and more materialistic and insensitive to the feelings of others.

I have been through depression. As far as money is concerned, a lot of it happens because of the lack of it. Depression do happen to people who have enough of it. But the fact remains it always comforting to sulk in a bungalow than a 10*10 meter house. Moreover, when you are in depression and if money is not an issue then you don't have the pressure of going out and earning your 3 times meal. In my case, if I would have sulked the entire day then probably I would had died because of hunger more then depression and the worst part is in depression you don't feel like talking, performing at your best, you just want to isolate and keep sulking. So, while I applaud Robin's effort yet fact remains there are many poor people who are in depression who are more vulnerable. Not to forget, all these clinical cost comes at a premium. A standard psychologist charges 1k per visit so poor gets killed before the idea of getting any treatment.

Failures happen on a daily basis to human beings. If you feel sad one day and can not fall asleep that is not clinical depression. By definition, one has to have loss of appetite, loss of weight, loss of sleep , anhedonia ( inability to enjoy anything that is sensual pleasure) , loss of desire for sex, suicidal ideation- for more than 2 weeks consistently is depression. Feeling sad is dysthymia. That is grey. Not feeling light at the end of the tunnel is Depression. That is black. Robin Uthappa's trigger is that he could not see how he is going to play for India again if he plays for RCB, (which has never won IPL) He possibly thought that his best chance to come into a contention for a place in National squad is to play for Mumbai Indians (which won IPL 6 times so far). People just like physically- are of variable strength when it comes to Mental strength. Some people are mentally strong like Mohinder Amarnath, Saurav Ganguly etc. Amarnath had come back to national squad despite being repeatedly snubbed by selectors and getting injured on the field. Saurav had fought the ghosts of Test cricket , even though he is a giant in White ball cricket and made come backs to Test cricket. Whether religion or prayer (self talk) , one has to be mentally strong to keep the Mood disorders at bay or else you need the help of Fluoxetine or supportive psychotherapy. I am glad that Robin got it and came out of depression.

That is so good for you to seek help and continue taking help when you feel aware about your health. We do that for our physical health, why not the mental right! What he said is such true words and a brave step to talk about such a private thing. I bet this will help many people to speak up or even consider that their mental health is not to be ignored.

Your ego is the problem like others. Ego or oscillation of thoughts lead to depression. It means 99.9% get depressed but most don't reveal it publicly. Ego or oscillation of thoughts is nothing but getting caught in the superficial opposites of life eg pride/shame (in your case), happy/sad, love/hate, profit/loss, beauty/ugly, lonely/popular, emptiness/meaningfulness etc.
The best way to neutralize ego is to understand hindu/vedic metaphysics, law of karma and importance of following and defending dharma (natural law). First step is to read Baghavad Gita which is nothing but the science of absolute in the form of conversation between krishna and Arjun. Read it again and again. Every time you may perceive different meanings but in the end clarity will prevail. Nothing can touch you after that- not even your own ego.
