Since this video has become so popular, I must bring attention to another recording with Shug Fisher singing Too Old To Cut The Mustard, which is in a similar vein to this recording. th-cam.com/video/cafhGH0ioAc/w-d-xo.html
Most of my generation, the 2000's generation, would probably mention Tom and Jerry because it came on the air in Boomerang at my house in Florida. I must say that I have high respect for Tom and Jerry, particularly this short (Pecos Pest). Many of my classmates from our special school, the Arbor School of Central Florida, likes Tom and Jerry more than I do.
@@easmsagentandjapanrailwaysfan2 _Oh, to be born in year 2002, that is!_ Because as Millennials or Generation Z people, who doesn't love Tom and Jerry as much as I do?
That's exactly who it was. Shug Fisher used to pop up everywhere. Before, during, and after his Sons of the Pioneers career, he was on radio, television, and films. Was on a handful of Gunsmoke episodes, Have Gun Will Travel, The Virginian, The Beverly Hillbillies, and even The Dukes of Hazzard. Can see him in films with the likes of Roy Rogers, Henry Fonda, John Wayne, James Stewart, and countless more big names. He'd always play roles similar to his friend and Pioneers alum Ken Curtis (famous as Festus on Gunsmoke). He'd show up as bartenders, crazy old coots, sheriffs, drunks, farmhands, etc. You dig deep enough into Western music and film/television history, you'll see how much they intertwine. The faces all start becoming familiar. You'll be like "Hey, that bartender was the same cattle rustler that got shot 5 episodes earlier"

Woke up this morning and this song was in my head from a Tom and Jerry cartoon I haven't seen it in 30 years so I had to look it up first I found the Tom and Jerry cartoon and then I found this.. wow amazing what you can find on the internet...just go ahead and search up " froggy went a courtin' "... just so many variations
Funny, but it could be funnier. A little mouse in a cowboy hat, boots, a two string guitar, and a floppy white moustache, singing this would be awesome!
I love to think that the bosses at metro goldwin meyer heard this and thought to themselves " we should have shug in one of our films he's a comedy genius", it's also interesting to see that aside a few additions (mostly of the word nephew) the song is almost the same as it is in the episode!.
I must say, whoever uploaded this video must have seen the 1955 Tom and Jerry cartoon of Pecos Pest. I'll bet Shug Fisher would appreciate it if he was still alive! In fact I've seen many tributes to Uncle Pecos (Shug Fisher) on TH-cam, and now I have finally found the Sons of the Pioneers video, not to mention that I have watched Pecos Pest (1955) whenever it aired on Boomerang in mid-2011 through 2015. Ah, good old nostalgic memories. It never fades away!
Oh absolutely. It's funny, how the Sons of the Pioneers have all been a part of my life, before I knew anything about them. You slowly make all the connections and start seeing them everywhere.
Good eye, Robin Hood Productions Ltd. We can all agree that the Tom and Jerry 1955 Pecos Pest cartoon brought us here. A shame that Shug Fisher (1907 - 1984) was uncredited in this short, but we can all agree that his rowdy talent gave us the ability to remember him in this TH-cam video, as well as in his animated form.
I use it as an alarm ringtone for my autistic twins' medicine time. They love it and start singing along! I always wanted to know the origin of this song from the cartoon that I always loved. Thank you for sharing this gem!
Yeah, unfortunately nothing out there really exists. It seems like they had a short lived television spot, but all of that kind of vanished. Same with the road show Gene Autry used to put on. All that's left is recordings and recollections.
