I cannot recall a time in NFL history when multiple teams (SF, CHI, WAS, NYG) separated themselves from the rest of the league during the same era (the mid 1980s). Championship caliber match-ups throughout this period. They dominated the NFC in spite of decent teams like LAR, DAL, GB, MIN, STL and DET (before Billy Sims' injury). The AFC powers at this point were DEN, CLE, MIA, NYJ and LA Raiders; the only AFC team to win a Super Bowl (XV, XVIII) in the 1980s.
if mcmahon was healthy thie bears win.at least 1-2 more titles imo....that team was unbeatable w mac! he had the longest win steak at like 25-27 strait untill brady broke it...dem bears needing mac was their downfall... they were never gertting beat defensively 95% the time in the 80s ... having 0 qb depth was on the mmcaskeys
@@sloprun After Ryan left the Bears defense was #1 in the NFL in 1986 and 1988, #4 in 1987. Having nothing at QB sunk their ship. McMahon was a top tier QB when healthy...the replacements were all horrible - Tomczak, Harbaugh, Flutie and failed in the playoffs.
@@ChicagoTRS I knew McMahon was hurt for a great part of the 1986 season. However, you are right, their 1986 defense was better than they were in 1985. It was too bad they could not repeat as champions.
What a difference having McMahon back did for the Bears Not to mention added motivation from Montana s dumb comment after LY playoff game "Bring your offense with next time!"( Where was YOURS today Joe??)
How many times did the fridge carry the ball in this game? Was it just the one time? The video ends just before they snap the ball after the play where the fridge took the handoff.
My only problem with the 85 bears was during the super bowl Mike ditka wouldn't let Walter Payton put the ball in the end zone and get a touchdown. You like that big fat guy in the refrigerator get a touchdown but not sweetness
Big fat guy? Line up against him on the goal line and when you come to after the play - let me know how that worked out for you. But yeah, Payton deserved a chance.
I've been a Bears fan for 60 years and to hear it said that McMahon was the #1 rated QB in the league just made me laugh, thinking that a Bears QB would EVER be the #1 rated passer. Especially when it used to be Payton left, Payton right, Payton up the middle. Punt. Da Bears! Cheers....

From 1984-1996, the NFC division ruled the SUPERBOWL chronicles. San Francisco, Chicago, Washington, and Dallas.
If any of those teams SF, CHI, WAS, NYG were in the AFC, they'd go to the SB every year.
@@senecanicholson1090 and NY Giants.
@@exmaj5040 .My mistake. 1986 Giants were RAW!
@senecanicholson1090 oh yeah!
49ers WR's lining up in 3 point stances just shows how much the game has evolved.
Miss 80s-90s football
It was a lot more exciting and played with much more effort. High salaries and imagery made it very soft. Seems scripted nowadays.
@@senecanicholson1090300 yard passing games are more exciting than this grind it out football today
The NFL peaked during that era.
Dick Stockton mentions the Bears are playing with a zeal and confidence that mark teams that go all the way...23:20
2:20 Walter busting Lott Bo Jackson style. Both truly amazing players.

Arguably, 4 of the top 10 all-time players are in this game. Payton, Rice, Montana and Lott.
I'll give you 3.

That Bears O-Line was incredible how they cancelled out good defenses,Because they scrimmaged against the best.
These videos are great, but it's hard to keep track of the score.

Well said
Plus letting free agents go like Hilgenberg and Marshall.
When Buddy Ryan left after 1985, that greatly hurt the Bears defense.
