As a Bears fan from that era, I remember many of the vets giving the impression that they really wanted to not like #72 and be jealous of the hype but he was just to nice a guy. He was just having fun. #34 deserved a td in the superbowl but still.

My Uncle was Jim Finks and I love Mike Adamle's poem mentioning Jim Finks underpaid the players. He was known to be frugal. I had the great privilege to get to know all of these players in 1976 working at the training camp. They are all great men and role models. Thanks for this great video. Not sure a lot of NFL junkies know this or not. But the Bears had some good teams in the late 1970s before Mike Ditka got there. They made the NFC Playoffs both in 1977 and 79. If they got anything from their QB, they could beat just about anyone in the NFL. The New York Jets were playing a very good Bears team at Soldier Field.

The New York Jets were just starting to become winners again in 1979. The Bears were playing musical chairs at QB. But they had a pretty good team overall, even while lacking at QB. So this was an interesting matchup.

My only problem with the 85 bears was during the super bowl Mike ditka wouldn't let Walter Payton put the ball in the end zone and get a touchdown. You like that big fat guy in the refrigerator get a touchdown but not sweetness
