    I was at this game. It was other worldly. The points came so fast and so furious you had to be there to believe it. They were actually down 10-0!

    One of the finer games from offense and defense where Bears backups came in and had some fun too

    For those who believe a punter does not matter, Redskins were looking good until their Punter was injured and suddenly the field position game went in Chicagos favor. Take nothing away from the bears, great team, great season and one of the best superbowl teams of all time.. but not having a punter did turn the game around.

    The best was Thiessen comments about machman after the game, called Jim a beer gunslinger a hole. Jim said at least I can punt a football for positive yards

    If I recall, Walter only had a couple of yards this game.

    The Redskins next two trips to Soldier Field resulted in divisional playoff losses by the Bears. The Redskins defeated the Bears 27-13 in January 1987 and 21-17 in January 1988. In both of those games the Bears had early leads. But key Redskins who made big plays in those divisional playoff games in 1987 & 1988 were Jay Schroeder, Art Monk, Clint Didier, Doug Williams, Darrell Green and head coach Joe Gibbs. Since this 45-10 win by the Bears early in the 1985 season, the Bears have gone 4-15 against the Washington football franchise including the two playoff losses in 1987 & 1988.

      On top of which, the Redskins signed Wilbur Marshall.

      To me the 87 loss hurt more as they were up 14-0 and that was Payton’s last game

    It’s a shame they had to play on the lousy turf.

    Willie Gault...2nd best Bears kick returner?

    • @SECRETARIATguy224
      @SECRETARIATguy224 18 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      No. You do know that Gayle Sayers returned kicks, no?

  • @gerrypeet4861

    Darrell Green was the fastest man in the NFL. He won every time he ran in it. Gault was too slow to win it.

  • @markbeyerauthor

    Willie Gault was, simply put, mediocre. He had no "feel" for the game. Jump! for the ball. Don't! let your shoes slip out from under you 90% of catches. Catch the ball! that's what you're paid for.

    • @SECRETARIATguy224
      @SECRETARIATguy224 17 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Maybe, but he was vital to that Bears offense because teams _had_ to send safety help with him because nobody could stay with him one-on-one [Darrell Green notwithstanding]. That helped not only their passing game, but also their running game.
