This wonderful man and Kanazawa Hirokazu sensei, both of whom I have trained with in the UK are, for my money, the best karate exponents in their own way, of any - and over my 50+ years of training in around 10-12 different styles, I have worked with the best. Fantastic series of videos - thank you for posting.
This is how a true master of his art really is. His indepth, encompassing, and absolute knowledge of his art shows us his lifelong understanding and expertise on his art. Truly a virtuoso, a master, a teacher and a guide.
Thank you so much, Adeyto! You don't know how meaningful these videos to those who love Karate but they're not in Japan and don't have much chance to understand the spirit root of Karate, including me!
This is clear and concise. His explanation was distilled from his vast understanding of his life in Karate. I thank him for his sharing of his life experience and knowledge.
To Adeyto Thank you for sharing these 4 part interviews with this famous / unique / humble, karate master Higaonna Sensei. He embodies everything that should be described as traditional karate. An excellent programme. Thank you very much
It always interests me how masters of any subject or skill tout the importance of grasping the basics of their chosen field or skill. Sounds simple, but this is a man who has devoted most of his life to mastering himself.
Dear Sensei, Mroio Higaonna, Many thanks for simple yet instructive remarks, and recommendations, best wishes good health . Well, the main idea is hardwork and spirituality combined along the road. There are no shortcuts on the way towrads perfection. Paul, retired instructor of Goju-ryu.
Adeyto....Thank you so much for uploading these videos of a GREAT master ! I have been a practitioner of Goju-Ryu for 45 yrs. now, starting in Goju when i was 5. I loved how he expressed uniting all 5 karate ryu's as one......Much RESPECT ! Thank you again.Fantastic videos of a legend and a beautiful man !!
There is already a sort-of unification of the karate branches in Shito Ryu. All karate is from either Naha or Shuri (Goju is the most prominent descendent of the Naha school, Shotokan is the most prominent descendent of the Shuri school; all karate is descended from one and/or the other in some way, shape, or form - that's why there are so many similarities across styles). Shito Ryu is the unification of the original Shuri and Naha forms, and includes all major kata from both schools.
Thank you for uploading the videos. I enjoy learning about other styles of karate and it is heartwarming to listen to old masters speak about their art with passion. I myself have been practicing Shotokan since I was 9 and competed in my teenage years. Karate clearly is Higaonna sensei's way of life and it makes him a wise and humble man (with dangerous fists :). Oss!
These masters were raised in a time where there was no self-doubt only Hardwork and truth they all had a can-do spirit there was no can-do only practice till you do
his hands, feet, arms, and legs are telling his story. really wanna meet this sensei to learn some more to extend my knowledge. respect from a muaythai artist!!!
+6arcsn1sky Dont be a fucking moron. Look up "Gracie Challenge" and watch "masters" such as this guy get their asses handed to them when they dare to take on BJJ.
Andrew Supa Oh no, the moron is YOU because the reason the Gracies beaten these other styles is the huge amount of rules that they imply for them to follow. Now, if it had no rules, that will be a different story.
Andrew Supa No, you're the one who doesn't like the truth since you don't want to believe Brazilian jujutsu has a lot of flaws. If you think it's superior than the traditional crafts, I dare you to use it against two or more brawlers, and tell me what was it like having been kick or stomp on the ground.
This is really a way of life for these great masters.. Not only training and this "tree" can send you to the grave easily.. A shame be killed by a tree with fists🤣👍🤣👍🤣👍👊🌲👊🌲👊🌲👊🌲👊🌲👊🖕
we practice this in the style i study, isshinryu. this helps me to understand how sanchin plays an important part in my katas and sparring. i don't practice it enough. now i will practice this everyday!

the sensei thats doing sanchin dachi, he has spent a lot of time hardening those knuckles. amazing they look like deformities but try taking a punch of of them....
@@petercarlson811 Not really because in goju kyu we practice punching with proper body technique just like any "good " boxer would. Also, most boxers don't have the proper leg or body conditioning. Proper technique which we have in karate so does boxing, will allow for maximum punch strength. Furthermore, Mass doesn't always equal punch power...many body builders will big ass arm still can't punch on the same level as boxers or karate practitioners can. And to support this lets use physic. Momentum = velocity × mass. If you have mass but not proper technique or speed you need more mass. If you don't have mass you have to increase speed which karate focuses on.
@@true.royalty6742 The guy showing the punching techniques left his lower body totally behind and thus omitted a buttload of power. To generate maximum power the hip and shoulder needs to move as one. This guy is only punching with his arms and shoulders. "Also, most boxers don't have the proper leg or body conditioning." If all you do is punching (boxing in other words) your body will adapt to generate the power you so desire in accordance with the technique you use.
3:40 Saying that even Terauchi-sensei get's angry when he get's kicked is proof that even masters need to start somewhere. It's all vigorous and consistent training that makes a master
😊Arigato, some youngsters might think he's just a fluffy man who throws faint punches in air. I saw one with similar physique and thoughts changed immediately after a hand shake. his muscles aren't developed an bulgy like we're used to see Which doesn't determine strength of a person but he is a strong man.
Wow. This dude is impressive. Also, it looks like if he ever did actually punch someone it'd probably feel like getting smacked in the face with a cinderblock.
Okay, full respect for the master. This is true Japanese karate of Old times, which was a lot more dangerous than the current, modern, watered down, safe types, from which all kill techniques were carefully weeded out to make it PC and easy to digest for modern man.
Yikes, took me a while to realise someone has responded, sorry for that. Much as I love Kyokushin, it is not one of the four main styles at all. Kyokushin is largely influenced by Goju Ryu and Shotokan, afterall. Either way, this video is absolutely magnificent, so glad I took the time to watch this.

Many years ago, having sustained an internal injury which western medicine cannot cures me. I went to a traditional practitioner of ancient medicine man, this man uses his internal energy to heal me just by using his other side of his palm by lightly tapping onto my injured area to let out the bad blood and took some herds to heal. The light tapping on my back was really really painful, can’t imagine if he uses the force. I am heal to date
I usually see the first four main styles referred to as: Shito-ryu, Goju-ryu, Shotokan-ryu, and Wado-ryu. The fifth one is a little bit subjective, but according to my instructor, you would probably be looking at Shorin-ryu, Isshin-ryu or Shorei-ryu. Hope that helps.
No harm done mate. And i know where Kyokushin comes from. I do Goju Ryu and were told about Kyokushins origins a lot. I was just stating something i read in a book a while ago. Sorry for the misinformation, no harm intended. Agrred, the video is indeed magnificent. Some more of these should be done

is there a medical explanation about this bad and good blood? i am practicing taekwondo and id like to know if its good for the body to practice like in the video. (to make the bad blood come oute) thanks!
Question about Sanchin because my Matsubayashi Shorin-ryu sensei said it's dangerous but the more he talks about it the more I want study it. The reason is that I seek strength and I'm interested in Goju-ryu because Kyokushin-kai is a little too rough for me.
Okinawan Meibukan and Shoreikan Goju-Ryu are more classical than most styles and also have more of a Chinese White Crane influence. Which, IMHO, are styles that you can do longer into your life as you age. I combine Kempo and Meibukan. One for self defense and the other for the classical art.
Some teachers discourage doing Sanchin with high intensity when the karateka has reached 45+ years or so because they stress different aspects of the kata. Like I recommended to another person, try reading Okinawan Karate: A History of Styles and Masters, Volume 1 by Christopher Clarke.
