Im good now and no problems..it was only a misdemeanor charge..so I was able to get my Master's in my field and make a decent living for myself... During that time I was placed in solidarity for about a week and later I moved to a cell with 2 roommates ..the cells were met for 2 people but they crammed 3 people in..even though we got along..we were still in a tight space and it still impacted your mental health. Long story short..I don't think its healthy for people to live in these types of conditions..especially when you take into consideration that furniture..clothes..etc is going to cram the room..you dont need a mansion to be happy but you need room to breathe for your mental health. PS it also impacted how I view zoos and the animals in those cages..well jail aint suppose to fun..thats the point lol

Compared to "normal" houses, it is a bargain. It is all about the market. If the prices were too high, no one would rent those places and the owners would eventually have to lower the prices.
I've been apt hunting for the last 2 months and as a native New Yorker I already know to skip any place that says the "rooms are cozy" or worse when its listed as "legally 2 bedrooms" . Super code word for TEENY TINY. P.s. I found my perfect apt last week 😊

This is exactly what’s going on in Houston right now. People from up north think 1800 is cheap for a 2bdrm meanwhile natives are like WTH. Just 8 yrs ago you could live in a mid rise for about 800 1bdrm. Now those same apts start at 1400. Crazy people can’t even afford to live in a city they grew up in.

The first apartment is the size of my walk in closet. I live in Houston, Texas and I pay $1300 for a 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 car garage in a decent neighborhood.

It could be furnished like a van, even adding a composting toilet. I would do just about anything to keep my commute short, so if I worked in the neighborhood, I could see myself doing this. A friend was outside of midtown and still paid $2,000 for about twice the space in a dingy 5th floor walk up. That place is nice and clean and even has ceilings that look high enough for a loft.
In regards to the roommate situation. You do have roommates, you share a bathroom. The only thing private is the bedroom, which is the same if you actually had a full size apartment with a roommate.
Yes and you only have to share with a few people (at most) who you actually know in that situation, instead of an entire floor of strangers like a dorm room!

There are lots of issues with housemates who have been in a house for years and think they are landlords and annoy the fack of you with their set rules lol, some housemates are just plain toxic, it's like living in a home with people that are not your fam. Renting a bedroom with shared facilities means what it means, we are no fam, friends, no housemates with rules or whatever mind your own business. the end. works great for me.
Well the pricing of NYC especially on rent and house prices is literally on a different magnitude than most other places. Even the suburbs are much much cheaper at literally a different level. For example I lived in the Northern suburb of Philly (not in the actual city, especially not downtown. Downtown Philly's housing isn't closely as ridiculous compared to NYC but it's still expensive), and the rent there is like at most half of NYC. Compared to even the city itself it's like at least 30% off. Don't know about the suburbs of NYC as I heard they can get a little crazy too. And since I mentioned Philly most large cities housing prices is like that. NYC is not the most expensive, I heard that goes to SF & the bay area. Even places like Boston can be crazy. Boston's housing prices is almost as expensive as NYC outer boroughs (and I'm talking about very convenient & expensive outer borough neighborhoods like DoBro and LIC). Other large cities, like DC, Chi, Phl, etc. aren't closely as crazy but still crazy by a lot of standards I see in the comment section. Like if u live by yourself and expect to have all modern amenities like elevated building, modern heating & AC (meaning you can control BOTH from your own unit), W/D in unit, etc., be prepared to spend up to $2 grands every single month...
Its really sad what ny has become. The essence of ny being the city of dreams is over. Only the rich can live here and everyone else are just service workers who have roommates. Ny will regret running out the non rich creatives who made it what it was

Georgia's rent has gotten very high too. I remember I would look at rent prices in early/mid 2000's and I seen 3 bed, 2 ba for like $750-850..now its like $1300
Living in NYC is everything. So when they were quarntined in these tiny apartments with no hope of going outside with nothing open. These rooms became asylums!
Everything about NYC is horrifying to me. I hope you won't take that as an insult, because I'm sure there are perfectly nice people who love it. But the crowding, the lack of nature and the whole attitude of the place would make me so sad. I get my comfort from nature and the country, and from being far away from crowds. I want to live in a place where my nearest neighbor is hidden by the curvature of the Earth. I can't imagine paying so much to live in a room smaller than a prison cell, and not even being able to use the bathroom in peace.
I’m a native New Yorker that’s dying to get the hell out of here. NYC isn’t what you see on movies. The cost of living is way too high and people are literally on top of each other, that’s how overcrowded it is.
I am a native NYer too. Born and bred all my life. We moved to Ohio. Bought a 3bdrm 1.5 bath house and all of our bills combined are the same cost as just the rent for our 1 bdrm apt we had outside of NYC in Yonkers.
@@mocha1886 we moved only 4 months ago but so far it hasn't been a difficult transition at all. The public transportation is lacking, definitely not as frequent as NYC and things aren't as walking distance but my husband drives us everywhere and im learning so its all good.
Rent is cheap here in the lower mainland! And yes there are some landlords who are asking $1000 for a room, or even higher for a shoe box of an apartment! I've seen people try and rent places for around 350 - 400 sq. ft for over $1500 on the outskirts of the lower mainland, up to $2000.00 or even above downtown Vancouver!! And all of those prices don't usually include utilities! If it's an apartment building, you MIGHT get heat and hot water included, sometimes no utilities are included! Or they try and say utilities are "xx" percent of the utility bills!! Never fall for those ones! Control is most often in the hands of someone else!! And for anyone not living up here, universal medical, not all of it is free, and somethings you have to wait a heck of a long time for (that even includes some important surgeries) some items, and medications can be way more expensive here. So, just some info ...happy hunting everyone!

I live 45 mins outside NYC in a nice suburb. You will just need a car. I personally like to entertain work in the city, but I like to go back to quiet. It’s not worth the price in my opinion.
Aren’t there any public transport/transit that will take you into the city so you don’t have to rely on cars? I thought northern US states had good public transport...cars are expensive.

Guys, dont be misled. This type of robbery only happens in the most expensive areas of Manhattan. You can certainly get a decent apartment in other areas at a reasonable price. Even better deals are to be had 45 minutes outside the city. My mortgage for a 5 bedroom, 2 bath cape cod with a pool, 3 car driveway & 1/4 Acre land (Huge yard) In Massapequa NY Long island (50 mins away) is $1,400/Month. I could be in Penn Station in 55 minutes on the LIRR
real live new yorker here: i would totally go for #2. there's a lot you can do with the main common area with a murphy bed/sofa day bed, table/desk set up, and it actually has a lot of storage and is super bright. 10 years ago when i was broke and out partying every night (hence broke) i would totally go for #1.

It’s a cool space but not for no 1,500 + lol... Maybe 800 if that! You can rent a house with a two car garage, a pole barn, and a basement for that in most states west of the Hudson River; With the exception of California, Miami, and certain parts of Chicago.
The 1st room for rent was the size of my dorm room in college. I could swing it back then, but there’s no way it would work for me now. It’s literally the same size as my closet. And $1050 is ridiculously expensive for 55 sq ft!
These apartments used to go for about $400-$650 ish when I first moved to New York.... and it was waiters, cashiers, cab drivers, musicians just starring out that in these units... not students using their parents money. The city made it impossible for this demographic to live in NY anymore (yet these people are still needed for the city to run). The collapse that is happening now was inevitable.

I have a small child and would consider it 1) because of school district 2) how much time it would reduce in commuting. That school district is much better resourced than others. You might be gaining a lot in education and potentially in time if you work in Manhattan.
If you don't need a car you save big on car payments and insurance. I know people that pay 800+ on a car payment. So it's what you choose to spend it on. Great presentation 👍

this is literally the exact same apartment i saw some guy touring on youtube as well, even down to the shared bathroom. there was furniture in his video, and that’s exactly what they did.
I was thinking the exact same thing too. The only grind is that I don't get my own bathroom. If the room was only it was just a little wider, we could've put a wet bath by the front door and have the top part of both of that be used as a spot to put a futon. Then use the rest of the place as a office or living room as you stated. It'll essentially be like an RV or truck camper style layout in a way.
The first one isn’t terrible for a college student. That’s about how much personal space you would get in a dorm and room and board would come out to be about the same

And I have no issues traveling anywhere that i want to visit, but i can come right back home where the cost of living is reasonable. These prices are not justified (IMO).

Travelling to a major city allows you to enjoy a glimpse but it doesn't compare to living in NYC or wherever. The full energy and opportunities of a larger city completely differs from a southern city which is hard to experience in a one week trip. Now I over NYC but that's another story...
The small space is the main thing I really don’t miss about nyc. I’m spoiled now by having an elevator in building and washer/dryer in unit for low price in Texas now.

Whelp. I live in Southeast Asia and pay $700 per month for 4 floors - 4 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, and the 4th floor is like a roofed balcony type area to hang clothes and hangout and stuff. Personal parking space fits 3 cars (1 SUV, 2 prius/bmw). Moral of the story: live the good, good life here LMAO

The prices are actually pretty believable for Manhattan. But, for me, they are also the reason why I spent my 12 years in NYC living in the Bronx and Queens. More affordable, more space, just a subway ride away from Manhattan.
That's more than my mortgage on an updated 2000 sq ft house on 5 acres in the Midwest near a decent sized city. I don't get how people think NYC is worth it.
I stayed in a place like this in San Francisco close to the college and it was actually really awesome. Having such a little space gives you at so much more time to do literally anything else other than take care of it or earn money for it

The 55 sq ft, I would just use that as an office... idk if i could even do that. And especially during a pandemic, having to share a bathroom... I wouldn't be 100% comfortable with that. But, the 2nd apt is cute.
I live in Michigan. We own a 3 bedroom 3 bath home and we pay like 750$ a month and that's lot rent and mortgage. That's one thing the Midwest has going for it. Housing prices aren't through the roof in most places.
The 1st room with those soaring ceilings reminds me of the Dorm rooms at SCU.....the students would build a sleeping loft above the 🚪door, and put the wardrobe along the wall as you enter the room, you can also go the "Kitchen in a closet" route along side the wardrobe. You would get the self-contained sink with a Fresh water 💧and a Grey water jug in the cabinet operated by an electric pump. The GW jug gets emptied in the community bathroom 🚻. A dorm fridge, microwave, etc all tucked in a wardrobe completes the "Kitchen". Me being Me, a cassette toilet would be a "Must". That would be dumped in the community bathroom 🚻as well. It can serve as an ottoman when covered. Love the 2nd one!👍
His place is so inspirational! I am moving into a large studio in the city. I'm a maximalist, love color and my furniture is dark brown or black. Every video that I have found shows so much white or beige.

And what if someone has a stomach bug constantly in the bathroom... or the time your up to get ready for work your shared bathroom is always occupied for long hours making it impossible to get prepared...this sounds like disaster waiting to happen, unnecessary stress
I lived in a 181 sqft with 10ft ceilings for 6.5 years, I had a bathroom with stand up shower, & kitchen. It had no window to outside. & there was a loft storage area above the bathroom, I had a loft ikea bed, in which we sawed off the legs, & my dad..the iron worker...lol helped..okay he did all the work, & built to the the wall & the loft area. So than I had a bed 8ft up, with sit up space, & a storage space, & my deepfreeze became my desk down below. & I hung clothes from underneath the bed, because it had cross wiring there. I used mirrors to help open the space. With the first place she showed, I would get one of those beds or a bunk bed, & a small apartment sized fridge, hot plates, & desk. Shelves for footwear, & hanging clothes, you can get narrow one's too. Blender, Juicer, Plants, & I would grow my own food, & plants on the balcony, so that it encloses the space a bit. & doesn't feel so concrete..you can get a galvanized tub, & boil water, though it would take awhile, & be a pain to drain unless you had a hose, it was okayish to let it go down the side. But it is a pit there is no sink or small bathroom. & my place cost me $500CDN included utilities. That's probably $350 American.
I live in Georgia. If I had to live there I guess I would be homeless. Thank God I don't live there. Happy in Georgia!! 2 bedrooms, living room, kitchen, dining room combo, two full bathrooms, walk in closet and two more nice sized closets and a laundry room, outdoor back patio, front and backyard.
I live in Atlanta. It’s no where near as expensive as NYC, but renting is getting pricey. I’m paying 2k for a 2 bed, 2 and a half bath townhouse. I’m going to buy a house next or move further away from the city.

This is exactly what’s going on in Houston right now. People from up north think 1800 is cheap for a 2bdrm meanwhile natives are like WTH. Just 8 yrs ago you could live in a mid rise for about 800 1bdrm. Now those same apts start at 1400. Crazy people can’t even afford to live in a city they grew up in.

It could be furnished like a van, even adding a composting toilet. I would do just about anything to keep my commute short, so if I worked in the neighborhood, I could see myself doing this.
A friend was outside of midtown and still paid $2,000 for about twice the space in a dingy 5th floor walk up. That place is nice and clean and even has ceilings that look high enough for a loft.

In regards to the roommate situation. You do have roommates, you share a bathroom. The only thing private is the bedroom, which is the same if you actually had a full size apartment with a roommate.
Yes and you only have to share with a few people (at most) who you actually know in that situation, instead of an entire floor of strangers like a dorm room!

There are lots of issues with housemates who have been in a house for years and think they are landlords and annoy the fack of you with their set rules lol, some housemates are just plain toxic, it's like living in a home with people that are not your fam. Renting a bedroom with shared facilities means what it means, we are no fam, friends, no housemates with rules or whatever mind your own business. the end. works great for me.

Well the pricing of NYC especially on rent and house prices is literally on a different magnitude than most other places. Even the suburbs are much much cheaper at literally a different level. For example I lived in the Northern suburb of Philly (not in the actual city, especially not downtown. Downtown Philly's housing isn't closely as ridiculous compared to NYC but it's still expensive), and the rent there is like at most half of NYC. Compared to even the city itself it's like at least 30% off. Don't know about the suburbs of NYC as I heard they can get a little crazy too. And since I mentioned Philly most large cities housing prices is like that. NYC is not the most expensive, I heard that goes to SF & the bay area. Even places like Boston can be crazy. Boston's housing prices is almost as expensive as NYC outer boroughs (and I'm talking about very convenient & expensive outer borough neighborhoods like DoBro and LIC). Other large cities, like DC, Chi, Phl, etc. aren't closely as crazy but still crazy by a lot of standards I see in the comment section. Like if u live by yourself and expect to have all modern amenities like elevated building, modern heating & AC (meaning you can control BOTH from your own unit), W/D in unit, etc., be prepared to spend up to $2 grands every single month...
Its really sad what ny has become. The essence of ny being the city of dreams is over. Only the rich can live here and everyone else are just service workers who have roommates. Ny will regret running out the non rich creatives who made it what it was

Georgia's rent has gotten very high too. I remember I would look at rent prices in early/mid 2000's and I seen 3 bed, 2 ba for like $750-850..now its like $1300
Living in NYC is everything. So when they were quarntined in these tiny apartments with no hope of going outside with nothing open. These rooms became asylums!
Everything about NYC is horrifying to me. I hope you won't take that as an insult, because I'm sure there are perfectly nice people who love it. But the crowding, the lack of nature and the whole attitude of the place would make me so sad. I get my comfort from nature and the country, and from being far away from crowds. I want to live in a place where my nearest neighbor is hidden by the curvature of the Earth. I can't imagine paying so much to live in a room smaller than a prison cell, and not even being able to use the bathroom in peace.
I’m a native New Yorker that’s dying to get the hell out of here. NYC isn’t what you see on movies. The cost of living is way too high and people are literally on top of each other, that’s how overcrowded it is.
I am a native NYer too. Born and bred all my life. We moved to Ohio. Bought a 3bdrm 1.5 bath house and all of our bills combined are the same cost as just the rent for our 1 bdrm apt we had outside of NYC in Yonkers.

Rent is cheap here in the lower mainland! And yes there are some landlords who are asking $1000 for a room, or even higher for a shoe box of an apartment! I've seen people try and rent places for around 350 - 400 sq. ft for over $1500 on the outskirts of the lower mainland, up to $2000.00 or even above downtown Vancouver!! And all of those prices don't usually include utilities! If it's an apartment building, you MIGHT get heat and hot water included, sometimes no utilities are included! Or they try and say utilities are "xx" percent of the utility bills!! Never fall for those ones! Control is most often in the hands of someone else!! And for anyone not living up here, universal medical, not all of it is free, and somethings you have to wait a heck of a long time for (that even includes some important surgeries) some items, and medications can be way more expensive here. So, just some info ...happy hunting everyone!

I live 45 mins outside NYC in a nice suburb. You will just need a car. I personally like to entertain work in the city, but I like to go back to quiet. It’s not worth the price in my opinion.

Guys, dont be misled. This type of robbery only happens in the most expensive areas of Manhattan. You can certainly get a decent apartment in other areas at a reasonable price. Even better deals are to be had 45 minutes outside the city. My mortgage for a 5 bedroom, 2 bath cape cod with a pool, 3 car driveway & 1/4 Acre land (Huge yard) In Massapequa NY Long island (50 mins away) is $1,400/Month. I could be in Penn Station in 55 minutes on the LIRR

real live new yorker here: i would totally go for #2. there's a lot you can do with the main common area with a murphy bed/sofa day bed, table/desk set up, and it actually has a lot of storage and is super bright. 10 years ago when i was broke and out partying every night (hence broke) i would totally go for #1.

It’s a cool space but not for no 1,500 + lol... Maybe 800 if that! You can rent a house with a two car garage, a pole barn, and a basement for that in most states west of the Hudson River; With the exception of California, Miami, and certain parts of Chicago.

The 1st room for rent was the size of my dorm room in college. I could swing it back then, but there’s no way it would work for me now. It’s literally the same size as my closet. And $1050 is ridiculously expensive for 55 sq ft!
These apartments used to go for about $400-$650 ish when I first moved to New York.... and it was waiters, cashiers, cab drivers, musicians just starring out that in these units... not students using their parents money. The city made it impossible for this demographic to live in NY anymore (yet these people are still needed for the city to run).
The collapse that is happening now was inevitable.

I have a small child and would consider it 1) because of school district 2) how much time it would reduce in commuting. That school district is much better resourced than others. You might be gaining a lot in education and potentially in time if you work in Manhattan.

I was thinking the exact same thing too. The only grind is that I don't get my own bathroom. If the room was only it was just a little wider, we could've put a wet bath by the front door and have the top part of both of that be used as a spot to put a futon. Then use the rest of the place as a office or living room as you stated.
It'll essentially be like an RV or truck camper style layout in a way.

There's a big difference from visiting NYC and living in a big city back home. Travelling to a major city allows you to enjoy a glimpse but it doesn't compare to living in NYC or wherever. The full energy and opportunities of a larger city completely differs from a southern city which is hard to experience in a one week trip. Now I over NYC but that's another story...

Okay that second one is the first one ive seen in a long time that actually looks livable at reasonable rate! If I was moving to NYC I would snatch it up in a heartbeat!
The prices are actually pretty believable for Manhattan. But, for me, they are also the reason why I spent my 12 years in NYC living in the Bronx and Queens. More affordable, more space, just a subway ride away from Manhattan.

literally I rent my 2 bedroom HOUSE in a beautiful neighborhood with a huge backyard for $675 a month. I puked in my mouth watching this.
Yup yup, even in Northern NY, like Plattsburgh 7 hours north of NYC, you'll pay half for double/triple the space.
That's more than my mortgage on an updated 2000 sq ft house on 5 acres in the Midwest near a decent sized city.
I don't get how people think NYC is worth it.
The second one is perfect for a single person. That neighborhood is quiet & there's lots of places to walk.
I stayed in a place like this in San Francisco close to the college and it was actually really awesome. Having such a little space gives you at so much more time to do literally anything else other than take care of it or earn money for it

The 55 sq ft, I would just use that as an office... idk if i could even do that. And especially during a pandemic, having to share a bathroom... I wouldn't be 100% comfortable with that. But, the 2nd apt is cute.
55sqft fits more of the student/traveler lifestyle. 200sqft unit is totally doable!
That is a freaking closet - I couldn't even do that for an office. The second one is nice tho! Those NYC prices are crazy tho. I enjoy this series.

That’s why I live in the Midwest 😆. My first house was 3 bed/1 bath (plus a finished basement) for $640 a month.
I live in Michigan. We own a 3 bedroom 3 bath home and we pay like 750$ a month and that's lot rent and mortgage.
That's one thing the Midwest has going for it. Housing prices aren't through the roof in most places.
The second one was actually good though, well designed and damn that’s a lot of storage space.

The 1st room with those soaring ceilings reminds me of the Dorm rooms at SCU.....the students would build a sleeping loft above the 🚪door, and put the wardrobe along the wall as you enter the room, you can also go the "Kitchen in a closet" route along side the wardrobe. You would get the self-contained sink with a Fresh water 💧and a Grey water jug in the cabinet operated by an electric pump. The GW jug gets emptied in the community bathroom 🚻. A dorm fridge, microwave, etc all tucked in a wardrobe completes the "Kitchen". Me being Me, a cassette toilet would be a "Must". That would be dumped in the community bathroom 🚻as well. It can serve as an ottoman when covered.

His place is so inspirational! I am moving into a large studio in the city. I'm a maximalist, love color and my furniture is dark brown or black. Every video that I have found shows so much white or beige.

I’ve lived in the south all my life, so seeing an apartment like the first one blew my mind. 🤯 Shared bathrooms? No kitchen? $1,050?! What if I spill something, do I have to wait til my neighbor is done taking a dump til I can use a sink to clean it up? 🤣 maybe I’m not understanding how it works. I really like the 2nd one though. I think with some good organization skills it could be a nice space.
GodivaRealness IKR I’m a G. R. I. T.S my monthly mortgage for a 2 story 4 bed 2.5 bath open concept with a loft and bonus room is cheaper than apt #2 😂🤣😂🤣 but #2 was super cute
And what if someone has a stomach bug constantly in the bathroom... or the time your up to get ready for work your shared bathroom is always occupied for long hours making it impossible to get prepared...this sounds like disaster waiting to happen, unnecessary stress
I lived in a 181 sqft with 10ft ceilings for 6.5 years, I had a bathroom with stand up shower, & kitchen. It had no window to outside. & there was a loft storage area above the bathroom, I had a loft ikea bed, in which we sawed off the legs, & my dad..the iron worker...lol helped..okay he did all the work, & built to the the wall & the loft area. So than I had a bed 8ft up, with sit up space, & a storage space, & my deepfreeze became my desk down below. & I hung clothes from underneath the bed, because it had cross wiring there. I used mirrors to help open the space. With the first place she showed, I would get one of those beds or a bunk bed, & a small apartment sized fridge, hot plates, & desk. Shelves for footwear, & hanging clothes, you can get narrow one's too. Blender, Juicer, Plants, & I would grow my own food, & plants on the balcony, so that it encloses the space a bit. & doesn't feel so concrete..you can get a galvanized tub, & boil water, though it would take awhile, & be a pain to drain unless you had a hose, it was okayish to let it go down the side. But it is a pit there is no sink or small bathroom. & my place cost me $500CDN included utilities. That's probably $350 American.

I live in Georgia. If I had to live there I guess I would be homeless. Thank God I don't live there. Happy in Georgia!! 2 bedrooms, living room, kitchen, dining room combo, two full bathrooms, walk in closet and two more nice sized closets and a laundry room, outdoor back patio, front and backyard.
I live in Atlanta. It’s no where near as expensive as NYC, but renting is getting pricey. I’m paying 2k for a 2 bed, 2 and a half bath townhouse. I’m going to buy a house next or move further away from the city.
@@yasmeen8097 I live in a 2B 2B luxury apartment in downtown ATL. It’s $2200. It’s cheap compared to other places I lived in Los Angeles. For a place like this in downtown LA I’d be paying about $5,000 - 6,000 easy lol

2nd one is almost perfect, put in washer and dryer and it’s a great deal!
