- Leaving our camp at Honey Hill Recreation Area in the Francis Marion National Forest in McClellanville, South Carolina. We head up Highway 17 North to check out Elmwood Hunt Camp. It was a bit crowded there for me so we went over to the Santee Coastal Reserve. This little free camping area has a 4 day limit. It was absolutely beautiful there. Bird life was very plentiful and we also saw a lot of alligators. There are about 5-6 hiking trails to get out and explore the area. Thanks for watching!

Hi Brian, love the way you fitted out the box van so far.
Have you ever thought about improving the aerodynamics of the van? The box section is about as aerodynamic as a brick. 😉
Maybe consider this: buy 2 surfboard carrier bars, mount those on the roof of the cab, make a wind deflector/ style box that you can mount on top of the surfboard carrier bars.
The inside can be used as extra storage space. The shape should mimic the angle of the windscreen in order to guide the air up over the top and along the sides of the box.
You could also mount some vortex generator tabs on the trailing edges (both horizontal and verticall) on the rear of the box. Both mods would reduce the aerodynamic drag of your box van significantly which would translate into better mileage. You would recoup the cost quite fast and after that you would reap the benefit.
Great ideas. The vg’s alone likely a significant improvement. I fly a small experimental aircraft and the vg’s i have on the wings and tail have yielded 5 more mph of cruise speed - improved the flight surfaces efficiency.
The plants at the ruins are called Schefflera plants or commonly called umbrella trees.

@@b.snow-fotomkr6132 I think you're right. I looked them up (hort.extension.wisc.edu/articles/mayapple-podophyllum-peltatum/) and the leaf patterns match Mayapple and not Schefflera.

Van looking very innovative, I like that swing table, high cupboards. Not so sure about 'gator country. Had a friend who got treed by a crocodile up north here in Australia, she was telling me the whole story, showing her wounds, was up the tree for days. I told her I remembered it from the news. He'd got no vital blood vessels. Some rangers eventually found her.
I'm told that gators aren't as fierce as our crocs, but neither I'd care to come too close to.

I took 6 months off my job in Charlotte in 1998, and moved to Mclellanville, SC. I lived in a haunted old Dr.'s office there on the main road in the village. It was glorious, and I never understood how it had not been discovered by tourists yet. Here it is 2021, never went back, still call South Carolina home. And yes...the bugs can be horrendous here, lol.

Hi Brian, the box van is just brilliant. So practical, nice layout, and the ability to imagine and implement cool modifications as you go.
The camps look comfortably shaded. It's always great when you can get some things done to your van. The meal looks good too. I hope you're not plagued by the gas shortages right now.

It's nice to see they are surviving some where..when I was a kid in the 90s and early 2000s that would be everywhere in West Virginia..now I never see any, or many bumble bees.
Sigh . . . what a beautiful, peaceful video. The editing of all your nature shots is so beautiful, I especially loved the time-lapse of the clouds reflected in the water, and the amazing shot of the bat (bird?) flying across the moon.
