Switch Pro Controller is the only S controller I've owned in my gaming life. It would be literal perfection in every aspect if it had analogue/adaptive triggers. Maybe next year.
My favorite controller is the Original Xbox S controller. It improves on the duke in every way possible. It fits perfectly in the hand, not too big but not too small, and has an amazing layout. I love the black and white secondary buttons and prefer them to the bumpers that are on PlayStation and future Xbox controllers.
Hands down best controller that I’ve used, scuf reflex, it’s just a ps5 controller w 4 paddles. But I am hoping valve will make a steam controller 2 based on the steam deck cus the SD is actually my favorite controller but it’s a handheld so that feels wrong, so definitely the scuf reflex for now.
There was a PS1 controller without analog, because they just didn't make games with analog at first on PS1. That's also why PS1 analog stick controllers had an on/off button, because the older games didn't always play nice with it. I have to disagree with most of the list. On the Game cube controller I hate the mushy feeling L and R buttons, and that alone, everything else is fine, at least for everything I've ever played on it. A tier maybe, but no lower than B. PS1 with analog as S tier. The buttons are basically digital. You push it, its response is super fast and you get an input or no input as you press and release it. PS2 started having analog face buttons, and that screwed with me playing certain games not designed well for it, like Megaman X4 if I was playing that on PS2, as it often wouldn't register a full press for that game. And weirdly, I had issues in MGS2, which was designed for the PS2 analog face buttons, where half the time I couldn't manage a light enough press to just hold up a gun and not shoot it. The D-pad was near perfection, similar to Nintendo design, but enough their own to be legal, and its position is perfect for when I want to play a old school 2D game with D-pad. Left analog stick always felt just as natural in the lower position as the right normally is on all controllers. Generally speaking, all PS controllers are B or higher depending the exact one. Late Xbox is F and Nintendo Pro style controllers are D, as I despise the analog being on the upper part and the D-pad on the lower part, in particular the D-pad is mildly painful if I'm trying to use it all the time for an old school 2D game. The Switch Pro Minus button is in a bad position I have trouble hitting with my left thumb without hitting the analog stick or very intently having to move my thumb around the analog stick to press the button, or I have to just use my right hand. I also have always despised the classic PC style D-pad the Xbox controller uses, as they always feel inaccurate. All of the Xbox controllers I've had to use for PC on some games also just feel like junk, especially the analog stick, it feels overly rigid and cheaply made. I also didn't like how Xbox just had to us A, B, X, Y, but in a different sequence, and it took YEARS for me to at least adjust to the color scheme without thinking about the letters, and to this day I'm now getting both Xbox and Nintendo versions confused when thinking about the letter schemes. And I also hate how so many games, even some Sony originated games, just do not seem to want to support Playstation controller schemes, and they just default to Xbox since it has a long history of doubling as a PC controller. I feel like SNES is at least C tier baseline. It set the foundation for core controller design, but everything else is either better in some way, or worse in some way. Wii remote, C because it can be fun when the gimmick works, but when I don't need the gimmick and want my hands and controller stable, it's not. Joy con, my hands are too big in any format, lower than F tier, I'll honestly throw away my Switch before trying to use them anymore. Also I have classic left joy con analog drift, and my right joy con just likes to disconnect half the time for no reason. At one point I thought my Switch failed for like 3 months because the joy con didn't work for that long.
I think we have different lists, but I think it's because we prioritize different things. My priority for controllers is retro games, because I'm mostly a PC gamer. my perfect dream controller is a non-existent mashup: xseries face buttons and bumpers. ps5 sticks. ps5 triggers (but slightly softer). no ps5 touch pad. snes dpad. I wish the pro controller had better plastic and a dpad that wasn't awful. It could be a contender. The ps5 and xseries are pretty great for modern console games. I think the xseries has a slight edge there, too. I just don't play modern console games very much. I can't type the rest of my thoughts without just writing my own tier list and video, and I don't want or plan to do that, so I'll spare ya :D
Never had a XBX or PS5 (yet) but my go to controller on PC is Xbox X for ever! Feels so good! Never been a big fan of PS controller even if I played with all of them but I tried the PS5 and it’s true, big leap forward for Sony!
8bitdo is peak controller. But their driver issues kill the controller for me. The wired pro 2 was my favorite until i destroyed it from overuse lol. I now have 4 ps5 controllers because 8bitdo never pair to my steamdeck well enough
The Xbox controller is the best controller I’ve ever used, well I wish it could be slightly bigger, but It’s basically perfect. I guess it’s been awhile since I’ve used a game controller because my brother lost ours, and he just took a random one from his frat house, and it’s very stiff for some reason. Edit: how can you put the switch pro controller above the Xbox one? Actually this was before you talked about the Xbox series controller, but still both are basically the same, well I haven’t used one, but it just seems like it’s just the dpad that’s different.
from my 5 years of using a xbox one s controller it wasnt that good every time i got a new xbox controller it would just rip the skin on my thumbs which is not a good feeling to have and the bumpers gave out so fast it was not even funny the weirdest thing to happen with two brand new condition xbox one controllers i have is they both started to drift playing a flying level in spyro 1 remake the xbox series controllers are better with not that sharp thumb sticks when new and the bumpers are better
One thought kept rumbling in my head as you kept being wrong over and over: you're too young to make this list. The SNES had 8 buttons, it was the first with shoulder buttons, the original PS had 10 and was practically a direct evolution of the SNES. The gamecube wasn't the first with coloured buttons and was the same colour as its console, same as all other controllers. The Dualshock introduced rumble dual rumble (hence the name) and the reason there was an original controllers without analog sticks is that they were years apart, and for years most PS1 games wouldn't even work if you switched the analog functionality on (yes, it was a toggle). The Dualshock 2 had pressure sensitivity on every button and self calibrating sticks that wouldn't drift. The Dualshock 3 was one of the first default wireless controllers and introduced gyro controls... I'm sure I'll keep adding as I keep watching the video, but jesus christ. The list should've started maybe with the PS360 generation, lol.
let's be honest. the ps5 is tied at the top for modern games, and have been since the start. but sony have been copying their homework the entire time. they slightly increment on other company's innovations. they give you a premium product at a price you can [just barely] excuse. they back it up with polish, and cramming in as much as they can at their price point. and this has been their niche since forever, since they got popular with cheap-but-good consumer electronics in the 80s. ps1 hyped up devs because CDs were massively cheaper to manufacture, and all that extra space for textures and FMVs was enticing. 3d wasn't BRAND new in gaming, but it felt new to get it at that polish level and affordable price point. ps2 hyped up consumers because it doubled as a dvd player. it was a steal for the price. but playing games was icing. and it did it really well, and it was respectable gaming hardware. but it still was basically the wii of the time. ps3 was a repeat of the ps2. it was a bluray player. it was top in class gaming tech for the time, while still barely squeaking into the budget. classic sony. ps4 was still top tier tech. it rid on its market position. it doubled as a HTPC/streaming box. it wasn't truly pushing any boundaries. the ps5 is ... well, let's not talk about how much of a boring high tech commodity rut this generation has fallen into. it's sad, but PCs are winning. across all time, whenever sony goes out on a limb they have fallen flat. they don't back it up with classic-tier games that showcases why the weird tech is cool. vr. eye toy. move controller. ps5 touchpad. all innovative. none of them truly bad. but all failed to fully capture and go above and beyond their respective gimmick. they can't do nintendo better than nintendo can. which is fine. they have their own (very popular) niche. but back to their controllers. they have always been boring but as good as we can figure out how to do at the time. which is a great niche to be in. but they never were truly the ones doing the influencing. they were always the ones perfecting other people's ideas. the SNES controller is s-tier if you have a preference for retro games tho. I could see being grumpy about that :D I use mine w/ adapters on the NES and PC, because it's just that good at what it does. and I've extensively used all the other controllers, for years. including 8bitdo. it's just that much better.

The Boomerang 64 was just too powerful for this list.
xbox series controller is the best ever.

I've had a PS4 for 7 years, and broken 5 dualshock 4 controlers. I've never thrown even a single one of them.
Dang.

Yooo the hair goes crazy don’t be shy drop the routine
Step 1 - Have Wavy Hair. Step 2 - Get Layered hair with curtain bangs. Step 3 - Wash Hair.
I better see the NES Power Glove in S Tier ☝️🤓
not listed 😔
the gc and 360 controllers have awful d pads but despite that, I think they are the best

Pretty good. I use the 8bitdo controller. You should make a 3rd party controller list.
Down. I gotta study tho

Switch Pro controller is perfect. I don’t get PS5 controller. Weird stick placement and so much travel on the triggers.

I kinda prefer xbox controller over playstation controller. because playstation controller's d-pads hurt my thumb
i still use xbox 360 its peak
