Given how sparse some of the late 80s/ early 90s lists were, I imagine there’d be a fair bit of overlap, heck I think one year had 10 new molds exactly.
I am still ABSOLUTELY pissed off at how hard that damn main series Airazor was to find! The multipack NEVER came out in Canada and the solo deluxe was GONE when I was in Japan! I still want her SO much but I am NOT paying 70$ for one! WTF! Gimme a damn repaint already Hasbro!! It's not a damn MAsterpiece, why the FUCK is it so rare?! GAH! Oh, but I can STILL FIND THE STUDIO SERIES ONE IN STORES! Real good job Hasbro, making the shitty retool easier to find than the fantastic new mold.
The back of Gamer Edition Optimus being open is a bigger deal than it would be for other figures, as you see him from that perspective a lot in the game. Still great though.
Needlenose actually came out at the end of 2022. I remember grabbing him, two of his wave mates and 86 Rumble at a store in Liverpool when I went to see Avatar 2 in IMAX.
I've had to use TFWiki to date a lot of this stuff so I went with that. They list it as a 2023 toy but we've had a lot in these countdowns that were hazy as far as being a year end or year beginning release.
My Armada OP just arrived last night! Finally got my hands on it after it got restocked at a local shop and he's amazinggg. Been looking for so long. Hoping I'll be able to get 86 Ultra Magnus too
Had to get him in a 4-pack, but I finally have my own Tarn figure. Also having a surprising amount of fun out of his pack-in mate Squeezeplay. Maybe I'm just a sucker for the Headmaster gimmick.
Yeah I feel like the scale/shoulder complaints people have are blown way out of proportion, he's not THAT broad-shouldered compared to what he should be and sure he's a little bigger than he should be in robot mode but it was either that or having a nigh-useless carrier mode that could only hold Scout-class cars (not to mention his cab would be tiny compared to Optimus'.) The fact that he's even more articulated than the Masterpiece version should speak volumes.
@@franzise3605 🤷♂ and yet it doesn't speak volumes. I don't know for you, but I don't display my figures in alt mode. They're in robot mode when displayed. And it's in robot mode that he doesn't fit well with my other figures. If he can carry other cars is way down my needs list. Having good proportions and scaling is. For the price point, he just doesn't cover my needs and wants. I think that's the case for many people too.
@@claudegrenier3180 In that case, since you don't seem to care about the alt mode, why not just buy a non-transforming figure that could be perfectly accurate to the show and have limitless articulation? For me, a big part of the fun of Transformers is you can take them off the shelf and mess around with them if you want, and considering 86 Magnus is currently going for $200+ on the secondary market, I'd say I'm not alone in feeling that way. But you do you.
I would definitely add Earthspark deluxe Twitch to the list. For a toy from the kids line, the only thing that makes her noticeably that is the sticker, ball joints (which aren't a negative imo) and cheaper feeling plastic. Engineering and articulation-wise, she stands up with Generations, easy. That and she's just fun.
Needlenose is a nice one. And bigger than expected, especially for having Targetmasters. Tarn is ready nice. He’s a bit fiddly to transform, but he looks great. I do like the Cyberverse recolor a bit better though. Magnus is amazingly. Fun to transform too. He is just a little too oversized, but that’s forgivable. I really wish Snarl could lift his tail, but he’s otherwise great. Deathsaurus is great. Maybe not quite as great as Star Saber, but great. Prime is beautifully done, both of them.
I hope so too. Something smoother to convert and more articulated while still carrying the glory of the original would be ideal... though I'm not going to hold my breath on the new one being as nicely painted given modern budgets.
I don't want them to stop doing Magnus as a white prime that gets armor. But I think they need the white prime to do more transformation. When combining with the armor. The shoulders and thighs extend out to give the Magnus mode a broader design? Maybe pulling a page from the generation, one toy and having the armored magnus' arms be part of the Trailer.
ROTB Mainline Airazor was the one that got me into Transformers collecting this year. I watched your review of her over and over while waiting for my order from Japan to arrive.
Armada Prime was everything I could've wanted and even more... The only downside is that the same year this figure came out was the year Power Rangers got Old Yeller'd
Because Tarn would be a 5/10 figure if he didn't have the virtue of being Tarn's first Hasbro-produced figure (convincing most of the fandom that he'd have to be a 9/10 just because he was Tarn) and Magnus sacrifices scale-accuracy for being able to work as a car carrier.
Bang for your buck, been the rule all year. For his price, Magnus could have done more or been more accurate, and I was more impressed by what Airrazor and Reactivate Prime did for their intended prices.
My top 10 would be 10. SS86 Ratchet 9. Nova Prime 8. Armada Megatron 7. Blitzwing 6. Javelin 5. Toxitron 4. Tarn 3. Magnificus 2. Shattered Glass Grimlock 1. Deathsaurus
I am still saying you could do the best of 2024. CX But, yeh, was a fun run. Lots of memories from some of those toys, from G1 to Beast Wars to Cybertron, the movies and more! :D
My biggest recent regret was not ordering SS86 Ultra Magnus. I just wasn't sure about him based on images I saw. By the time I thought I should get him, I still waffled until it was way too late and he was impossible to find at a price I was willing to pay. Hopefully he gets a reissue like a lot of commander class figures have had. As far as Armada Prime, I want that thing, but due to space limits and just wanting to keep the collection manageable, I've been passing on all the updated Armada figures. They look fun but I have to limit myself in some ways, right? Right? This might not be the best place to ask that question...
I have Needlenose, Snarl, GE Optimus Prime, Armada Optimus Prime and Tarn. Though I didn't get Snarl, Tarn & Needlenose (where I live he was RARER than BREAKADOWN!!!!) until this year.
I'm happy that an official Transforming Tarn figure exists, and I'm happy to have it. But it has significant problems. His chest panel pops off very easily and is painted translucent plastic. His shoulder articulation looks silly. He's very thin from front to back. And he can't roll.
I don’t own him but MP skyfire is one of if not the only MP that looks absolutely perfect his price seems reasonable since it’s an mp and pretty big figure
10. Don't agree, shouldn't be on the list. 9. Totally agree, have the 4-pack and Bludgeon version. 8. Too wide for me. I am still going back and forward with the last 3 Leader Class we got. 7. I’m down to watch that. I definitely think it would be interesting
That's a challenge especially the few years where there was 11 toys
@@NmssMtlhwk That is true I suppose but I guess that would mean maybe start from a later year? I dunno
He will have to pull out the ol plastic addict shirt 😂
Armada optimus will definitely be on toys of the decade when we get to 2030.
If we ever get Jet-Convoy with Overload, it’ll sky-rocket in fan favour.

I'm very glad to see Airazor still on the list! And yes, Armada Optimus really was the best toy of 2023.
That's the best Magnus we've ever had and it's only 8th? Come now.
Meh... his proportions are off. I don't think he's the best. 🤷♂
He’s too squished and stretched horizontally, making him look ridiculous, the THF version is much better proportionally
