I just bought 2024 platinum version and it is INCREDIBLE! We test drove the telluride, atlas, pilot & highlander, and the pathfinder absolutely blew them away. Perfect mix of space, technology, safety & comfort. I was shocked, we hadn’t even planned to test drive one!!!

Agreed! He is wrong here. The pathfinder is a phenomenal vehicle. I bought the platinum after testing the telluride and palisade. BOTH the Kia and the Hyundai have reliability issues, the seats degrade and the seats stiffen over time. The telluride has slightly more space but the pathfinder is bigger than most in its class including the palisade. The interior refinement is phenomenal and it rides like a dream. He’s wrong to not recommend.

I just purchased a lightly used '24 Pathfinder Platinum and agree with virtually all of your comments both pros and cons. The key reason why I chose this over the competitors is headroom and seat comfort. At 6'-6" finding vehicles in which I'm truly comfortable is a challenge. The Pathfinder fits me well: I have several inches of clearance above my head, the seat bottoms are sufficiently long and provided good under thigh support and visibility is excellent- I don't have to stop five yards before a traffic signal so that I can see the light or constantly duck to see around the rear-view mirror when looking to the right.
While I haven't experienced or noticed the rocking suspension you mention, I will say that it is a bit harsh, almost truck going over rough roads. And I do agree with your daughter that they need a better midpoint stop on the door hinge as it does tend to swing closed. I will say though that all doors close with a satisfying, solid thump and so far anyway I've not heard a single squeak or rattle. As for the tech, I think it all works fine although the dash layout does seem to be a bit dated or at least not as elegant as some competitors. I like the head up display and the semi-autonomous driving and appreciate all of the buttons and knobs for key functions-radio, HVAC, cameras. Other brands, especially the Korean cousins offer more bells and whistles but I would argue that the Pathfinder Platinum gives you practical tech that you will use regularly,
I find the engine and transmission to be well matched. I like the sound of the engine and think it shifts smoothly although it is quick to up-shift and slow to downshift as you mention. I do find the power to be totally acceptable. And finally I agree that it's one of the best looking midsize SUV's out there.

Wife and I concluded this is the one for us.
    We loved the test drive.
As far as the doors closing on their own, I feel the opposite is true as far as refinement, it’s an extra refinement touch.

Offroad modes were a massive life saver for me during a blizzard up here in Canada with my 2022 pathfinder. I might not go off road but the advanced AWD is good when it counts. I would have liked a locked differential option though when they have so many modes already.
Ended up getting it because moving back to the US and Nissan said their warranty works across NA. Plus it was $56000 CAD for us with today's prices that's $43,100 USD. That was a steal for the platinum model. Had the car for 12 months 1000% recommend if you get it at a reasonable price. This channel didn't even mention the 6000lb towing. It's really an excellent family vehicle and it's not too big as to make it difficult to park if you live in a large city.

Automakers should appreciate your reviews of their vehicles. I am a nissan guy. I have had very good luck with them, and my local Nissan dealer is amazing. We struggle with good dealerships in my home town. Our Nissan dealership is top notch. I go with products and service that i have good experience from. Unfortunately i cannot say that for my local chevy or ford.

I disagree on the refinement part. I own a VW GTI and the sound isolation on the pathfinder is on par with the germans. The doors aren’t as solid but very close. For comparison I test drove the Highlander on the highway and you could hear the road and the other cars, so Nissan has the advantage here. Also, I don’t care how many tech and features a Kia or Hyundai has, they cut corners on the mechanical area, and they will rarely honor the warranty. The Pilot was a close second for me, but couldn’t justify the higher price for the same features the Nissan has

but again. The Buick/Traverse doesn't have easy to reach ton of technology, specific button for cameras no need to troll at home menu and all.

I had my 2022 SL premium for over a year now and one thing i noticed with the transmission is that it always tries to stay in the highest gear possible. Even when u try to accelerate it will go but it still tries to go while attempting to hold the highest gear possible. However, drop it into sport mode and things change dramatically. Response and downshifts happens practically on the fly. A slight touch on the gas pedal and it already downshifts and is ready to go. And when it goes and hits the high end, it really pulls. I’m very happy with mines. I drive in sport or auto mode most of the time 😅😅😅

Just bought the 2024 Rock Creek edition. Coming from driving an X-Terra and a few Wranglers and lastly a Challenger, I will say I feel like I’m driving a luxury vehicle. I won’t be rock crawling with it, but I’m comfortable with the slightly higher clearance and handling so far in comparison to the Wrangler. I think some mild off roading can be achieved and has plenty of power. The Wrangler has half the features even in the Rubicon class. I’m happy with the purchase.

I think a 6,000 lb towing capability (+1,000 versus Telluride) is a notable and compelling for those that desire it. It really puts you in a different class of trailer and closer to mid-size trucks.

    • @jax1079

@jax1079 Although they ceded that market when they went to CVT, that doesn't mean those people dont exist. But now they have ZF9 and a trim level dedicated to buyers that it would matter, the Rock Creek, which competes with Telluride X-pro. Nissan beats it in tow and cargo carrying capacity. I think you may be surprised at the number of people who might now look at Pathfinder instead of mid-size pickup. Nissan seems to be betting on it. Otherwise, why go to the effort? Same for Kia and others. Im good with it because choice and competition are good for consumers.

Having owned the "jellybean" for the last 8 years, I'm really eyeing the 2023 model. compared to some of the competition, I feel like I can get it at a reasonable price, based on my research so far (The Palisade is currently STILL selling for slightly over MSRP)... All in all, I really like Nissan's design choices; I've always felt that Nissan has been pretty progressive with design style, ever since I bought my 2007 Altima SL (later upgraded to a 2019 model after 14 years of really dependable performance from that 2007 model!), LOVE that they've moved away from the CVT, and most importantly, the wife loves the first impression so far. Yes, it's a little disappointing that the vehicle is mechanically not too much different from the previous generation, but technology wise, I have a pretty good idea of what the experience will be like; after all, I love the tech in my 2019 Altima.
ONe thing I'm a little disappointed in is that the Platinum model forces you to accept the captain's chairs in the 2nd row. It would be nice if you could choose your interior seating. Even in the SL, if you want the Premium sound system, you get the Captain's chairs crammed down your throat as part of that "Premium Upgrade" package - maybe it's something they'll address for 2024, but I have a feeling I'll be buying before that. With young kids and their friends, the seating for 8 has been invaluable! As such, I'll be shopping around for available SL models with the bench seating (which is probably why as of this writing, the SL model is the most popular, while Platinum models are just sitting on the lot at EVERY dealer in my area).. Thanks for your pretty thorough review!

Family of 4 but you never know when extra friends come. I keep cars for over 10 years and it is easy to spend a bit more for the Platinum when you amortize the difference that long. These are probably selling for less due to the CVTs of the past. I have been looking at 2024s with less than 10,000 miles and getting a huge discount over new.

Not really. The Telluride and Palisade are nicer inside and nicer to live with. Apples to apples I don't think long term reliability will be all that different. The Pathfinder is GREAT though if you can get a discount. That's a screaming deal

That’s tough because the Pathfinder is slightly larger and better in some respects, but my kids are older and I don’t need to haul as much stuff on vacations these days. I’d go Kia Sorento plug in hybrid and get the best of all worlds, myself.

I wondered about the ZF transmission. It takes a second to find the right gear if you're in one of the higher gears. The Honda/Acura 10 speed likes to "hunt" too, but they say it's a lot quicker than the 9 speed. It might depend on the drive mode you are in, IDK. I find it wild that the lane keeping assist will shift it faster. Do I go with Nissan and have to roll in for a software update or wait on the next Passport in '24? It's slated to obtain the new drivetrain under the Pilot.

    • @jax1079
      @jax1079  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Recently rode around in a Rock Creek edition and it felt a little more responsive and buttoned down, which solves my major issues. I’ll reserve opinion on the new Pilot/Passport until I test one, but I’m a big fan of the Passport’s form factor.

There should be a class action lawsuit for the rear brakes wearing out at 15K miles in normal driving conditions. Stay away from the vehicle. Passenger seat is so low the passenger can't see anything. I hate the fact that it can't recognize a bike rack or trailer and slams on the brakes when backing. Have to disable the rear emergency braking every time you start the vehicle. Nissan really didn't think through it's engineering on this one. Did I mention I have had to pull over a couple of time to reboot the vehicle due to every idiot light coming on and erroring out!!! Took pictures and show my Nissan dealership maintenance and they replaced my battery thinking it would resolve the issues. NOPE! It still does it especially up in the mountain passes. Once again stay away for the POS.

Adaptive cruise control is nausiating. Needs a serious tune, which goes back to the engine/trans set up. The head unit is a serious problem. Glitchy as all get out. Software? Electronics? The front seats don't go back far enough. Barely tilt enough for thigh support. Gas mileage is not good. It won't stay in 9th gear to get better mpg. That shining black plastic is bad. Especially in the daytime sun. It always looks dirty. Nissan is bellow mazda, Subaru, Toyota, Honda. They are at the entry point for Japanese brands. Since they own Mitsubishi it's a wash. Too much done cheaply.
