    First Gen still the best with body on frame, 2 position adjustable shocks, mechanical levers. The SE with the sport pack was fabulous. We had them to rent with company I worked for and loved doing brake burnouts. Chiseled looking with a cool rear tire carrier too.

      @@PRviewsvlogs Which is why is should be off by default when the driver selects any offroad drive mode. The driver should not have to turn it off manually after selecting an offroad mode.

    A front-wheel-drive (or AWD) cross-over may be labeled a Pathfinder, but it is more a bloated minivan than an SUV.

      My daily-drive is an '88 2-door SE. With rear positraction and 4WD it gets through almost any situation.

    SUVs like this should have 8" minimum ground clearence to improve the approach angle. It is not much of an ask compared to the 4L transfer case.

      CUVs like this dont really need to worry about approach angle. If you are worried about that, get a more appropriate offroader.

      100%. They are not mini vans. They should have some practicality of "SUV" though they are not really. Should have minimum 8" clearance imo as well. People like to take them for activities like camping and hiking. Nissan should look at other competitors.

      It really seems like the best way to rule out variables and just get down to the meat and potatoes of the capabilities of the drivetrain.

    Dont underestimate the second gen because of the unibody, they were light, had the solid rear axle, plenty of pep and reliability and were available with a manual. Great little things.

      I have a 2002 lifted with 31's and its great, and wheeled a stock 97 for a long time, it would get me further than most guys were willing to go, my 1000 dollar r50 got there rear lsd, solid axle, incredible low range, high stock intake, the second gen did not get the credit it deserved was better than a cherokee in every way other than after matket support

      @@quinnycoleman7214 yup, had an XJ, 02 Pathfinder and 02 Xterra. The Xterra and XJ were a tad better off road, but the Pathfinder was 100% better on road than both and could easily be improved off road. Super underrated. If I had to go back and choose just one I'd choose the Pathfinder.

    I have a 2017 Nissan pathfinder AWD Platinum SUV that I brought brand new Dec 2016 which is the best SUV I've ever owned for the money. I paid 39,000 for it brand new, it's loaded with creature comfort like adaptive cruise control, it can tow 6000 pounds easily, and because of the CVT the AWD version gets 22 to 24 miles per gallon on the highway. Never had any problems since purchase and have 80000 on it. With all terrain tires it does well on muddy dirt roads on my property and has never left me stuck/stranded. Only time it's been in the shop is for oil changes and new brake pads.

    I still prefer the first gen. I still don't know what android auto or apple car play is, so I can do without that. Can you turn that screen off so you don't have to look at that all the time? If not maybe you can make a cover to put on it.

    1st Generation was the best. I owned the last year it was made and I do miss it. However, for a mall crawler, this version does seem to be back on track. Cannot think of a better person than Roman to go mark the territory. ;)

    I have the Platinum 4WD fully equipped. This type of SUV is best with 4WD. For the winter I put in the 18 inch wheels with heavy duty mud/snow tires. For the summer I will be using the 20 inch wheels with all season tires. I will not be going off road with this Pathfinder. If I was going to go off road I would get the proper tires on heavy duty 18 inch rims. This vehicle is not a heavy duty type off road vehicle. I found when on soft surfaces and in snow I got better results when turning off traction control in the menu system.
    The skirts are too low to be practical for true off road driving. For true and serious off road I would get a Rubicon or an off road 4X4 PRO-X type pickup truck.
    I bought it to use as large 4WD vehicle for winter months. In the summer it will be for regular urban driving. I like the size and the comfort. Great vehicle for general SUV type use.

    Generation 2 was very capable, but here in New England they rusted out bad quickly like Subarus, Tacomas, and most pickup trucks of that era. At least Toyota replaced the rusted frames under warranty. Toyota reliability is more nuanced than most people know or admit.

      What interesting is the Nissan D40 platform made in Spain suffered from terrible frame rot issues, similar to the US Toyota trucks or around the same era. The US D40 frames were made by Dana and they are very good. I have a 2011 Frontier in the northeast and there really isn't much rust to speak of under it. Just they typical surface rust that's unavoidable in the salt belt. If you search for "Navara rust" you will see what I mean. As you said Toyota had the same problem in the late 00's early 10's.

    good v6 and no more cvt Nissan is heading in the right direction also Nissan I would like to the 3.8 v6 in the frontier in this pathfinder at least offer it as an option and maybe vice versa for those complaining about fuel economy on the frontier offer the current engine in this pathfinder on the frontier I think if you offer both of those engines on the frontier and this pathfinder or at least give us the option it would make both vehicles more enticing

    Just gave my wife a down payment for a new crossover/suv for about a month ago. She came back with the base model 2022 Outlander! 28k! No mark ups!
    Great vehicle so far after just hitting 2200 miles. Would love to see more videos of the 2022 Outlander, it’s such an upgrade from the previous models!

    The R51 was the last good Pathfinder.

      Its too big, also underpowered with the v6. Decent offroad capabilities but couldnt do what 1st and 2nd gen could do because of its size. Lack of manual transmission was also a minus.

      @@digitalmdrealmd9124 While I don't disagree with everything you say especially about the off road capabilities (at that point then you might as well talk about the Xterra) the 4.0L V6 was decent for it's size. It also has the option for the 5.6L V8 after 2008. The 5spd auto transmission which was also used in the Frontier and Xterra is known to be bulletproof so as long as you do your due diligence to avoid PMOD.
      My 2008 R51 is about to get to 160k, all I've done was replace the radiator, and regular maintenance. With a set of all seasonal and winter tires, It's done nothing but get me from point A to B with little to no problems.

      @@HotSneks I don't disagree that it is a decent vehicle. It's just the ones I have driven all had the v6 and seemed sluggish because of all the extra weight and were harder to maneuver offroad because of their size. Also I'm very partial to a standard tranny. Have never driven one with the v8, I'm sure theres plenty of power but then you are probably at 10-12 mpg. Have been out with a couple that had offroad mods but they couldn't follow my 02 through the tighter trails.
      BTW, I think this new '22 gen is still a piece of crap like the cvt disaster and is a disgrace to the pathfinder name. A stock '98 R50 would leave this thing crying at a trailhead. I can easily see it stuck in a 2in deep puddle.

      @@digitalmdrealmd9124 oh without a doubt, the 1st and 2nd gen Pathfinders were off-road beasts whereas the R51 was where it started to become more of a minivan, but is good enough for light off roading (the IFS and IRS were clear indications for this) Regardless, it still was far from a bad Pathfinder compared to this current gen and the previous CVT shitbox.
      I can only hope Nissan at least gets their R&D team to consider a next gen Xterra that continues from the N50 or is based off the new Frontier.

    Andre's sign is awesome. The Pathfinder was surprisingly good, too. Most "SUV's" anymore AREN'T. They are just bulbous kid haulers, which is fine. But is nice that this one can actually do something. Next time I am renting a car, will keep it in mind.

    We have a 2011 Nissan Pathfinder SV 4 x 4 149,000 miles and still going strong of course on a truck frame why I kept it and no CVT our last Maxima had CVT and it went thru 4 trans before we got rid of it

    Those tires would have to go . I run a set of Falken wildpeak AT3 on my pickup .they work well in the dirt and snow with out giving up much on road. . its my go to tire . the perfekt tire Upgrade for somthing like that.

    There should be a class action lawsuit for the rear brakes wearing out at 15K miles in normal driving conditions. Stay away from the vehicle. Passenger seat is so low the passenger can't see anything. I hate the fact that it can't recognize a bike rack or trailer and slams on the brakes when backing. Have to disable the rear emergency braking every time you start the vehicle. Nissan really didn't think through it's engineering on this one. Did I mention I have had to pull over a couple of time to reboot the vehicle due to every idiot light coming on and erroring out!!! Took pictures and show my Nissan dealership maintenance and they replaced my battery thinking it would resolve the issues. NOPE! It still does it especially up in the mountain passes. Once again stay away for the POS.

    What a piece of junk. An embarrassment to the Pathfinder name, should still be considered a mallfinder. Even with A/Ts or M/Ts that thing would struggle. My old stock ‘99 would get out of those “obstacles” without an afterthought. My “new” spring lifted 5spd ‘02 would make that course look like driving down the road. Nissan hasnt made an offroad vehicle since they killed the xterra.

    I understand technology in cars save lifes, antilock brakes, airbags, etc. But modes???, I have a 2013 pathfinder a lemon but in 4 lock got out of worse stuff with worse tires. Next thing you know they're going to put dumbass mode.

    Everything would’ve performed much better if the tires were different. Those smooth ass tires got no grip bruh😂. In terms of the vehicle itself, it did exactly as is is expected to in order to move the power around

    it looks decent but id prefer the clearance plus higher bumpers from my 4runner, those fenders sit too low to throw it around in deep snow banks or other terrain like with my truck.

    How do they think this is better than taking the cars on Colorado trails?? This just looks like riding around your yard in a SUV. This is not translating well at all. I could take my car through this.

    Maybe take an older version pathfinder and compare it to see if they went forward or backward of capabilities and well see if it's worthy of off roading

    A lot of people criticize the Pathfinder for what it's become as they see it as solely existing to be a competitor to the 4Runner. This, however, isn't and never really was the case. The Pathfinder has always been a trend follower having debuted in 1985 on the heels of every other compact to midsize SUV of the day including the 4Runner, yes, but before the 4Runner was the S-10 Blazer, not to mention the Jeep Wagoneer which was a smaller than any midsise SUV today as was the original very small Bronco before it went full size in 1978. Other small SUV introductions in 1984 were the Jeep Cherokee XJ and the Ford Bronco II. So Nissan was trying to get in on a trend the way Toyota was trying to get in on the same trend by converting the small pickups they already had into small SUV's.
    Jeep had been taking the SUV upmarket with the Grand Wagoneer and Land Rover had been doing the same but when Ford introduced the Explorer in 1990 it really changed the mass market SUV game. Better ride and handling (it still wasn't great, just better than others) more features, still enough off road capability to be useful for the majority and a lower price tag than the luxo utes. Well, when it became clear that this was the future Nissan followed Ford, not Toyota, and introduced a much more refined but still capable Pathfinder for it's second generation while Toyota kept the 4Runner mostly as it had been and introduced the Rav 4 to compete with the like of the Pathfinder and Explorer. As time marched on and the three row, mid-size SUV game came into existence Nissan tried to play along by converting their 2005 Pathfinder into their 3 row competitor based on the same platform as the Frontier, the Titan and the Xterra. A money saving measure to be sure not a grand plan to keep the Pathfinder off road ready. In the meantime Toyota had introduced the Highlander in 2001 as a larger and more refined version of the Rav4 and they put this extra size and refinement to use as a 3 row in 2004 with no expression of off road intent.
    Nissan realized the Pathfinder was not large enough, comfortable enough nor did it contain enough features to compete with it's three row competition so they did a short run in comparison to the other models on the F-Alpha platform and introduced the Pathfinder as we know it today in 2013. It had no other purpose than to sell as many copies of itself as possible. It wasn't a competitor to the 4Runner but rather the Traverse, the Highlander, the Explorer and the Honda Pilot to name but a few. Having finally introduced the class competitive Rogue in 2008 Nissan felt that was enough and let the Xterra do it's thing until 2015. With the second generation Xterra having declined in sales dramatically each year since it's 2005 introduction until it leveled out in 2009 at just 16,455 units sold with a bump the next year to just over 20,000 units and then a steady decline until just 10,672 were sold in 2015. If you really want certain cars to remain available for purchase you have to actually purchase them, not fuss about their departure when they're gone.
    After the CVT debacle Nissan knew they couldn't bring out a new generation of Pathfinder with the same tired transmission so we got the 9 speed which is great and so far has been trouble free. Otherwise the running gear is almost the same with some new tuning and some minor revisions. Nissan has tried to play up the rugged aspect of the original Pathfinder as if it just recently lost it's way but the Pathfinder was intentionally taken down the path it's on so as to have a competitive three row SUV while sharing as many corporate parts as possible. Until Ford brought back the Bronco Toyota was the only manufacturer that I am aware of still producing a mid-size body on frame SUV in the 4Runner. And despite all the press it gets the 4Runner is not a major seller for Toyota so there is very little reason for Nissan or anyone but, trucks - R - us, Ford to bother with one. And for all the hate it gets the fourth gen pathfinder was the highest selling model of the Pathfinder ever at 70,632 on average per year compared to the second best selling generation which was the second generation at 60,564 on average per year. If Nissan hadn't been so concerned with saving a buck and more so with quality control the fourth generation could have easily topped 100,000 sales a year but when word gets around that the transmission in you 40 to 50 thousand dollar SUV is a ticking time bomb, well, sales start to fall. If Nissan keeps the quality up and refreshes the new Pathfinder like it's competition does their 3 row mid sizers then this generation will easily out sell all that came before it.
    So quit thinking that any new Pathfinder is intended to be anything more than a family hauler as that has been it's "Path" since the second generation. Instead, hope that Nissan sees enough in Ford Bronco sales and interest in a more rugged SUV to actually think they can sell enough body on frame mid size SUV's to make it worth their while. The new Frontiers is more than refined enough now and Nissan has some decent interior design folks on the staff these days so it could be done but is the financial risk worth it? Keyboard warriors always say yes but they don't buy enough of anything for any major manufacturer to worry about. A manufacturer can't worry with a hundred million in supposedly lost sales on a product that will cost them three or four hundred million to bring to market.

      @Pro4x Trdpro Trendfinder, I like it. And yeah, all but the fourth generation are great vehicles for what they were then and are now intended for. But I just don't see Nissan ever making the Pathfinder anything other than what it is now. If there is to be a more rugged SUV from Nissan it won't be called Pathfinder again. But I don't care what they call it as long as they do it right.

      My daily (6+ years going) has a port injected V6, a 7 speed AT and single CD slot + USB/MP3. My Summer weekend car has a port injected V6, a 5 speed AT and in-dash Bose 6-CD changer with MP3 capability. Simple is great. That was 2000-2015, ish. Take out the old blueprints, Nissan...
