Hey brother, I am a farmer from the state of delaware. I've always worked on my own equipment but back when I was doing it it didn't have all the electronic stuff like they do today. You are a outstanding mechanic and you've got a great attitude and are what a man is supposed to be. I really hope you continue to make videos as I have learned so much from watching your work. Don't worry about what anybody says, like you said it's easy to sit on the couch and criticize someone else's work. You just keep at it like you have been mine and everything is going to work out just great for you.

I just stumbled across your channel this past week. Watching your videos brings back a lot of old memories. I ran a field service truck in the Klamath Fallls area about 40 years ago. Our service area was about a 200 mile radius. Got to see a lot of really beautiful country going up to mountain logging sites. The work was hard but I really enjoyed it. I am retired now but am enjoying watching your videos.

Old school mechanic here... I understand. Big outfits are spoiled, they are used to paying in cycles, net 30, 60. As a sole proprietor, you're stuck in this game.
Great video. As a native Californian I've seen our state government whittle away everything they can. Agriculture is all that's left after driving manufacturing away...and they're conservative...so the state has a bone to pick. See the problem?
If these guys are so smart, which they've proven to the contrary, immigrant visas for agribusiness should have been handled decades ago. Sanctuary state?
Look, I'm a simple guy. All the technology in the world just can't grow and harvest a crop. Yes, technology can help, but it takes hands on the ground and equipment. Oh, heaven forbid! It also takes irrigation.
Your words are spot on. Some day California will figure it out. If they can't understand why so many are growing south of the border, they should understand that we can grow our food at home, all it takes is common sense. And they've proven this concept to be totally alien to their understanding.
Oregon? Aw hell, they're a case study in why legislators can't function. These twits have no clue where the food comes from.

Warren, this is the first time I have ever commented on any video and I have watched quite a bit of YT. You’re a rare breed and a true inspiration. Honesty is the rarest of of all attributes and you my friend have it spare.
    Thank you for posting.
I enjoy watching an honest man put in an honest days work.
You inspire me to do the same. I worked for many years farming strawberries and got pushed out by all the things you mentioned. I continue to work for a large corporate grower shipper and I can tell you that you are spot on.
    Thanks again

I am a one truck operator ,had to change my business operations many times. Seems to go with the territory of being self employed. Just keep going and change your business if you must. Warren, a perfect video of business, working for yourself, waiting for invoice payment, chasing money without falling out with the customer. After 30 years as a mobile mechanic I am now retired, do not miss the paperwork side myself. Felt guilty taking a day off or half hour to eat my lunch. As a former biz owner and now disabled I thank you for this vid. I was a owner operator truck driver. the FING DMV shut me down because I am over weight or fat as hell as some will say. I was top on the board for on time delivery and pic-up. After 6 years in and out of court. All while fighting depression from losing my truck trailer and biz. I get $650 a month on disability. Just deciding what biz to get into. In other words I can't stand being on disability. On the other hand I have friends that if they worked at there job as hard as they work at trying to get on disability they would probably be rich. I was disabled before the F%^*ING DMV pulled my class A licence. I worked with my disability for 10 + years.

I can only speak for myself Warren. I cannot speak for anyone else. But, what I can say is from my perspective. I value your knowledge, I value your skills, I value your sense of humor. I watch this channel not for money, not for anything other than to see another episode in your day, I watch this channel for YOU because of YOU. It is the same for lots of smaller business's the bigger ones always delay in paying yet expect top rate service. You were honest in what is happening. But really, that is your personal affairs, it has nothing to do with anyone else. In saying that, I am honored that you think your community meaning us makes you feel comfortable and happy about telling us the truth and how reality is. It does not make you a weaker person, It makes you a stronger person. Thank you for everything you have done for us all in this community as realise it is a lot of work making the videos and also uploading videos etc. There will always be others who fail to do their job and create more hassles for you. I would be very surprised if that does not happen all over the world in every city... I hear you about immigration, it is the same in this country... immigration with a battery up their butt forgetting that while they are getting paid in their nice warm office farmers are struggling while someone still in nappies without any knowledge of the job or work involved in that industry makes a decision on yes or no

There are a lot of good people in Washingfornia, but the population centers decide the rules, the rural areas get no say what-so-ever. This is a by product of the 80's amnesty, Now thier children are the ones being elected to office, and making sure the "United" portion of the United States is worthless. Just my personal opinion. Saw my dad go through this 55 years ago, Every Christmas he was broke because everyone that he did work for in November and December wanted him to wait until Feb. to pay him. I enjoyed working on equipment and got a job working for a oil refinery in maintenance. Good job, long hours but good pay check on time every 2 weeks, if equipment had to wait 3 months for parts so be it, we had plenty to work on. Retired early after 32 years of being with them. May have had to work many Christmas and holidays but the checks were always on time. I saw what my dad went through and what we had to go through as a family, I just said no way. With you skill of being able to work on anything, you can make way more working of a big company like a oil company without having to put up with what you are putting up with. When you are your own boss, everyone you work for and deal with is your boss because they decide when you do their work, when you get your parts, and when they get paid and last when you get paid. Good luck.

But like you said they want their money now. And they know you need them and know you will wait because you can’t afford to lose them. The one guy from the school finally stop doing work for them he just couldn’t do it anymore. He was having to buy parts and had 30 days to pay but he would’ve to wait for 60 to 90 days to get his money so that money was not doing him any so he was out of his money during that time

The numbers look great because they include what is called the rentier part of the economy. We never used it until recently because it isn't productive. It's the part of the economy where bigwigs are getting free money from the Fed, and using it to buy back their stocks. The economy is only booming in a superficial way. It's the same in many other arenas. They have the numbers fixed. It takes a lot of time and effort to figure this shit out. People who work can't do the research. I feel ya bud...I closed my business in 2017 after 12 years. One of my big mistakes was simply that I never charged enough. I'd always tend to not charge for all the extras...I always thought I was investing in people's "Good Will" but in the end that was total BS! Just be sure you are charging what you should be. I went back to working for a dealership and I started doing the $$$ math as far as how much "Good Will" I should have in the bank. Turns out I'm busted...what a fool I was. Like you said there is a lot of overhead! There is a reason the Dealership is still in business and has been for 50+ years. And I gotta say nobody bitched about how much I charged.

The new service truck looks great! I know how you feel about getting paid. I work with some contractors and they pay months out when you expect the money sooner. North Carolina has a pretty good economy now. Farming is drying up everywhere. Can't afford to do it with the cost of equipment and little to no profit made. I hope things pick up, I enjoy watching your projects, maybe get your parts from Amazon, they have two day shipping... ha ha. They wouldn't know the first thing about tracks.

Come to Iowa, I have been thinking of starting my own shop here because any place you call about getting a semi worked on they tell you 30 days before they can see it. That and the John Deere dealers consolidating and changing policies, we have one around here that has a variable shop rate by how many years of experience the tech has. It is ridiculous what some of them charge for what they do. Most shop rates are up to $130 an hour around here now.

I have kept away from the bigger trucks because of what Oregon charges for commercial license.
Also entering my 23rd year as being a independent, one guy can't afford a shop & big truck. It scatters you out way to much.
I use to operate like you are, now I have 2 big customers, work out of my truck, in the field or their shops..not huge money, but steady.

Everyone thinks because you are in business for yourself that you are getting filthy rich. Everyone should be in business for themselves just once to learn exactly what it is all about. Dad and I had our own auto and truck repair business for 10 years. I definitely understand where you are coming. Hang in there. I appreciate your knowledge of everything and anything.

I agree with you completely. That is what the welfare state has accomplished in both USA and Canada. Why work when these schmucks can sit on their ass and let the WORKING TAXPAYER pay for everything? What does SECTION 8 alone cost the American Taxpayer every year and that is just one program funded by taxpayers?

Decades ago my family employed local help, over the years locals became less eager to actually work for a living especially on a Dairy Farm. In the late 70’s we transitioned to a primarily Hispanic labor force all of which lived here full time on a work visa. Up until about 7 years ago we had a stable full time “migrant” labor force with a few local semi-skilled hired men as well. It was actually Obama era immigration policies that hurt our ability to maintain a migrant staff. I now employ 8 Hispanic employees, all of which have became legal US Citizens with my help financially. That hasn’t been cheap let me say....but motivated people like the ones I have don’t come by everyday and helping them fulfill a dream was worth the cost. I voted Trump, I will Vote Trump again and I support building the wall. I’m sure I will offend some with my stance but oh well!
On a side note Michigan could stand another skilled Diesel mechanic.....just saying.

I understand you probably don't want to move to find steadier work, but if you get a chance take a look at the Columbia basin in WA state. It is a large and diverse agricultural area and not a lot of individual contractors like you. If for some reason you need to sell the freightliner service truck, I would be interested. Thanks for you time making these videos.

Hello Warren. My name is Richard Gwinn. I am originally from WV. My grandpa owned a H/D shop there. He worked on mostly cat equiptment, and worked for the big mining companies there. They payed really good but they would hold your money for three or four months before settling up. My grandma quickly learned to be a lawyer and a collection person, she went to the mining office quiet often with an attitude. I certainly would ask my customers to put some money up front for at least the parts needed for their job. Just hang in there Warren things will get better. I am totally blind since I was 12 year old, will be 64 Feb 6. Grandpa fired me when I graduated from high/school told me to go to college and get a good clean job. I worked in D C in the food service industry, it had ups and downs as well. I did okay though payed for my house and sent my daughter to university. Dow am thinking of helping to send my grandson threw college, he is only five years old now, so have a while to make sure I have money for it. Sorry about this long message, wife says I talk to much, always have been like that. I don’t know your area there but I think if you can’t raise your fee’s then at least get some money up front for expenses. Hire your wife as book keeper and bill collecter. Always helps when the hole family pulls together. I really enjoy your vids, the d8 k cat trans pump replacement was a really good and the d7 f was a good one as well. Enjoy all of you vids and will be rooting for you. To many lib’s in charge of things, seems to me like the hole damn world has gone fag!
