Good to see young folks at the conference. Our farmers here in the US are aging out and the younger folks have little interest. Food just comes from the Supermarket over here.....The number one thing any person can do to help is to KNOW YOUR LOCAL FARMER!! Tom...you open that door for folks in the UK.....KNOW YOUR FARMER!
Great video Tom, your a great speaker keep up the good work👍
FARMER PHIL Cheers Phil 😀
Out here in New Zealand and we call milking parlours milking sheds and most of them have thoes rotary systems in them because of how many cows are in New Zealand
How can anyone hate what your doing, I’m inspired by what your doing and how your farm is👍🏻
Tom love your videos and the life you live,i worked on a farm all my life an every night i went to sleep smiling thinking about next days work, such a beautiful life Tom.
As someone who has no clue about farming and stumbled over your channel from the hoof gp, i think what you are doing is amazing! My son loves to join me and watch what your doing today?😊 we as society are so distanced from farm to fork so to speak! You bringing what you do to us the general public through you tube is fantastic! Keep it going, shame we're not closer would have definitely have come to your farm shop! Thank you for all your content and sharing all you do
You're right I love watching your video's because you let us see what it's like to farm for the food we consume. It's also a big help that you make your videos fun to watch and educational. Your dad is awesome to tell us how things work. You're both great teachers.
Tom, I'm pretty new to your channel but bingeing hard- I know this is old content to you. When you were at the conference you said 1518 (the start of the farm in your family?) and 5th generation? What a history. Hat's off to you and the Ginger guy. What a job and honor it looks to be holding up that family tradition. Thanks for sharing authentically.
Great job Tom. I am a 62 year old retired special needs teacher, and love your videos!!!
Thanks Tom for giving the Irish dairy/agricultural industry such a positive image. It’s really needed and even more appreciated . Well done.
Whats wrong with its image? I know beef farming is in trouble buts thats been the case for the last 25 years, the worry now is beef men all entering dairy farming which could capsize the whole industry in Ireland on top of brexit and looming CAP cuts, Glanbia is only paying €0.28/ litre currently and restricting the volume of entrants to dairying. One wonders is the financial return worth the risk, considering the levels of investment being made at present.
DJ wait till next spring is over before casting aspersions about image.
“ beef farming in trouble” is proof that if you always do, what you’ve always done, you’ll always get, what you’ve always got.
“Beef farmers..... capsizing...” it took 30 years of quotas to realise that farmers have to have the right choose whichever enterprise, for the industry as a whole to prosper. That debate is over.
“Brexit” and “CAP” are external threats outside of farmer control. Any sustainable business model and industry strategy mitigates against threats on an ongoing basis. The question is,, where is industry leadership, to lead this?
Shiobhan, Boyle, Healy, Creed?Their silence is deafening .
“Glanbia” well all I can say is that it is a lost cause.
The unfortunate reality is milk is a global commodity. Ireland still produces less than 2% of global supply and we have failed miserably to differentiate our milk as a premium product.28 cent is proof that we are a one trick pony of low cost at any cost.
“Financial return worth the risk......of investment....”
DJ seams to me, and absolutely no offense intended whatsoever, that you got sucked into the food harvest propaganda and Teasgasc’s mob mentality. Focus on your own vision, strategy, business model and it will work out. AKA love many, trust few and always paddle your own canoe.
@@seansexton729 well said..but no i didnt get caught or sucked in by anybody, the whole dairy expansion thing just smells a little like lrelands house building bubble (2003-2007). I felt that the quota system offered control, regulation some security etc. We see the effects on the pub trade at the moment when every retailer is allowed to sell discount alcohol from their premises. Whatever our place in the world dairy supply ranking, it still costs us a fortune to produce a litre of milk, giving our volatile unpredictable winters, high feed, energy, insurance and day to day costs, while on the other side of the equation we have dairy and beef cartels dictating the paltry prices that we have no option but to take. and no....farm efficiency only mitigates so much ....not enough to offset against potential disasters like the weather events of 2018,2013 2012, 2009 prices etc, Let alone Brexit and the looming CAP cuts/ future.
I agree with everything you have said.
The demise of the Irish rural pub is very sad, regrettable and unfortunate reality like it or not.
We should be very thankful, that we don’t operate in that industry. We have to appreciate that. Think positively.
What I am trying to convey, is that the “bubble” the co-ops, the politics and the industry treats farmers with contempt full stop and absolute.
We won’t change that by just complaining about it. Individually and collectively as farmers, we have to start focusing on solutions outside our comfort zone.
E.g look at Mr Tom Pemberton and what he is doing in marketing and promoting what he does, whilst still retaining control off the end product using his farm shop. There is no runaway nonsense of milking 100’s and 100’s of cows with the silly mantra of “low cost grass based” BS narcissistic egoism.
Brilliant advice Tom, hopefully with the increase in social media exposure we'll see more into the world of agriculture. Couldn't help but laugh at the accent issues 🤣
Sean Swinton 🙈
Corkonians have a language all of their own as do all the other counties on the Island of Ireland .
Great to meet you Tom, glad you enjoyed the conference, the farm walks and the night life
saw ur silage and slurry analysis's people today they were really friendly in the welsh dairy show
Ur guide was my lecturer in Agricultural college. Brilliant video, love your work.
I think I’m going to have to start driving the 50-60 mike round trip to get to your farm shop for my beef and milk. I’d rather get my food from such an open, honest and capable source than a faceless slab of meat in the supermarket
Glad you were able to get on "the flying thing"!
You poms sent the kewis into nation morning!! At one stage we milked 500 in a 20 aside swing over took 5 to milk the whole herd. We upgraded to milk 600 on a 60unit Rotary . Bloke near me is milking 900 on a 50 unit.
Well done Tom,gutted I couldn’t get down 🇮🇪🇮🇪
Will done 🇮🇪🇮🇪
in our milking herd we run two seventy rotaries and we put through about 1200 head so roughly 600 each shed, and Tom even though your all the way over in the U.K its great to see your following and it hopefully appeal to the next generation so keep on doing your great job Tom
5000 cow farmer Thankyou 😀
I've been watching your videos for a while and your music choices are the best, they make your videos even better.
Flown many times with Aer lingus,,, and quite a few on the aeroplane you landed on.... Get yourself off to Dublin if you get chance,, fantastic place...
Great video Tom I actually work on a farm in the Waterford area we are milking 460 cows in a 44 a side herringbone parlour and it takes us 2 hours for milking and cleaning up
Shane Mcgrath Nice!!
How do you sustain a herd of 460 in the event of a winter like 2013 or 2017 with current milk prices and CAP cuts looming?
Hi tom, greetings from cork!! I work on a huge dairy farm with a 36 unit parlour and over 360 cattle to milk every day and that is considered nothing on our farm😂
Well done Tom, onwards and upwards. Pass port control guy wasn't too pleased haha
I really like the diversity of your farm. Sheep, milking cows & beef.🐴 (Horses) You have a store where the public can come and buy. 🐮🐄🐑Hard work and these things equal success. Thanks for taking us along. Oh did I mention your Utube channel success in your Family enterprise! 🤗🍻

Great video Tom that's my local Mart glad you enjoyed cork
Great video Tom. Keep up the great work and hope you enjoyed your visit to ireland. 👍👍😊😊
Well done Tom grate video . Helps keep every one informed as to what's out there 👍
Tom don’t be surprised be the level of technology and investment in the dairy industry in Ireland when I was a student at Reaseheath in Cheshire in the early 90s I was surprised at how large dairy farms there were often behind in infrastructure compared to smaller ones in Ireland maybe more eu money was spent in Ireland through grants for reduced pollution schemes
Kerry Agri Business.
EU had production quota's, if you exceed it you pay for the privilage, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milk_quota
Awesome video. Look like a great experience for you. Thank you for bringing us along with you on the trip.
I milked on one of these rotary parlours the other day... 60 cows on one full rotation..... Its really efficient and effective, but you have to be able or fit enough to keep up with it.... We milked 650 through one of these was amaze for sure
The rotary parlour is crazy there’s a Irish farmer in Cambridgeshire that has one. Fits 80 cows and it’s bloody hard to keep up with it 4 sets of cows I think they said they do around 800 took us 4/5hours to do all of them but that included washing down and repairs I done 8 hours on it and was bloody shattered great bit of kit if you can keep up with it
Well done Tom. Im from Brazil and like what you do👏👏👏
Thank you for showing us this Tom. Your talk was great on the stage. That was some set up for the cows on the second farm and was wondering if it would be the kind you would like to have on your farm? We just have a 8side parlour no need for robots yet! lol
Glad you enjoyed.
Very interesting to see other farms and farming methods you also deserve a break . Shame about the ticket keep the videos coming and Happy Farming
I like the rotary over the automated machines.
6th comment.Great vid Tom I am irish we have a farm in Tipperary.Love your channel I started watching in march this year.
“You recording ? “Yea” ”
A sour welcome to Ireland , not our usual form .
Nice name
Looks like you had some fun . Got to see some great stuff .
I’m from California which should explain why I havethe hardest time understand English! Ha! Ha! Honestly, I get about 75% and fill in about another 10%. Part is the problem is the speed at which you people in the north of England, and those in parts of Ireland, speak. Please know, I LOVE❤️ all the content-especially all the animals. Two thumbs up Pemperton Farms👍👍
Hi Tom, I'm an Irish Dairy Faamer. I love your videos. did anyone mention Brexit on your visit to Ireland and what's your opinion on its affect on agriculture.

Rotary parlour was a beast great video tom
Hairs looking fresh Tom👌
I used to milk 8 a side in stalls, it used to take 3 hours morning and night, different world now, you don’t think but we held them in the yard, so that’s 6 hours not at grass 😳.
Hi Tom we have zero grazers in irland love your videos 👍
What a great video, your knowledge is getting very good with these speeches you do. Like the look of the carousel 60 cows one go,you only have to stand one spot as they take their turn. You will get used to all these different accents eventually.
John Powell 🙈
