Old video, but the reason the dorsal plates are different is because the older figure was from the Toho Kaiju Series line and when MMS came to be sometime in 2001, most of the TKS/GIS figures were given slightly bigger molds and different paintjobs with some given altered molding. Granted think it's more noticeable in the MMS 1954 Godzilla from the 2005-2006 pink tag line of figures.
not gonna lie he looks better in person rather than the promotional pictures. 1954 is one of my favorite design and i'll probably buy this one and i'll just paint the claws and toes. Great review Rob!
I never acquired the Japanese Bandai '54, so regardless of this redundant reissue, I'm glad to be given a sense of variety (original release, theater exclusive, memorial box, or 2019 reissue versions). Now that I think about it, how cool would it be if Bandai rereleased their memorial box 1962 Goji, along with a 6 inch version of their '62 Kong, for Godzilla vs Kong? That would be stellar!
get the 2005 version, it has practically the same colour as the 2019 reissue but with better paint. the claws on the hands and feet, the chest and top of his head are nicely painted. plus that the dorsal plates have paint only on the edges like it is supposed to have.
Wow, you got it pretty early! I was thinking about getting this one but...eh. It's pretty annoying that they REMOVED articulation. If the joint is an actual joint, why glue it?
Ryan 7811 a little crazy due to copyright issues (I think), but I want a reissue of the 8 inch 1962 Kong or a new 6 inch version of it. Also I want a Godzilla 1962 release for the movie monster series I don’t remember replying to this comment at all lol
I still don't understand their rationale for adding all those white highlights on head, chest, knees in the first place.. I don't remember the original suit having any of those.
I don’t think the highlights were ever meant to be there for accuracy, the suit was brown at the end of the day lol I think it was all a stylistic choice and not much else.
Indeed it was. Glad I have my past releases as well. This is probably MMS’s most laziest. Sure, it could be said they were going for a screen accurate portrayal of the figure. But even NECA have proved that, it can be done with different shades and a little bit of a wide eye.
I got the new one From 2019 for only 13 bucks off of amazon I don't know how much it is now,my uncle has The OG one I wish it was like his with the new 2019 one
I don’t neeeeeed it, but it looks just different enough from the pink tag I own. Having the 65th anniversary mark on the tag is probably the biggest draw for many collectors, but I agree with you, we could have had literally had any other figure. Heck it would have been cool if Bandai, for Godzilla’s 65th anniversary, re-released some of the 50th anniversary memorial box figures in the standard line. Mainly milestone figures, 64, 74, 84, 94, 04, 14. That way those who have the memorial box (or just some of the memorial box figures) don’t feel cheated, yet others who want those figures but don’t want to pay insane prices can get some cool Bandai figures.
The only dumb question there is, is a question not asked! or something. This is from Bandai & their newer line of reissue figures! Sofubi are normally bigger and have more extravagant paint jobs, availability and prices.
Just saw this appear on ebay and nearly lost it. Definitely getting this, and I honestly like it better than the original. The paint reminds me of the Bandai America version, and while that figure is utter garbage, I did always like the paint. The grey helps distinguish it a bit better from other godzillas. (Though I do GENERALLY prefer old Bandai. Movie monsters. Not America. Kinda hate those figures. But I digress)
hope ya didn't pay $30 for this. (edit) - sorry just saw the rest of your comment the lighter tone does indeed distinguish him from the rest, i'll give ya that.. it's just a little underwhelming. idk. ya know what they say, different strokes for different folks!
@@ShinRobjira I haven't ordered it just yet. I do want to wait until it hits Amazon stores, as seemingly all of their newer releases have. Lmao, sorry. Should have posted it all at once, instead of in edits. But yeah, I like it but I get why it would be underwhelming. I did skip out on the new destroyah for an older one, but this one isn't so bad that Id feel the need to spend extra on an old one.
may i recommend picking him up from HobbyLinkJapan? He's only $15 there, i imagine you'd have to wait around the same time as ordering from amazon and stuff. Just want to save ya some cash here!
@@ShinRobjira Oh man, I didnt know about this store. Its got the 2019 Godzilla and Ghidorah as well for really cheap, so Ill snag those too. Thanks dude
This was my first figure, the 2019 one, I was so happy with it until I saw this video of yours :( I live in south america and the shipping fees are insane, so its really or spending hundreds of dollars in figures that you get cheap, or getting bootlegs... I like this channel, but I feel like it only works for USA audiences... :(
Yeah... considering I don't have a 54 Goji figure, and that, due HLJ being kinda inconvenient for someone who lives in my country... would you say this dude is worth $20, maybe...?
If it means you’ll have a figure you don’t have already, then go for it! I’d still say to exhaust & lurk eBay for a earlier release for a decent price, just because (personally) the older ones look way better.
I mean it's all personal preference. if ya like it, ya like it! "Bandai's Dead" while annoying at times, is somewhat true. SOME of these reissue figures & the KOTM line were rather unsatisfactory and pale in comparison to Bandai's earlier stuff. Reused molds, less paint, lazily applied paint, lack of articulation (which seems to bug a lot of people) and then some, have a lot of people just turned off to them nowadays.

Tbh, seeing as the movie is just black and white, I don't despise the lack of colour.

Instead of giving us 54 so many times why dont they reissue more showa monsters and showa Godzilla designs
Very. Much. Agree.
While I ain’t complaining, it would’ve been GREAT to get a new Showa Godzilla instead of 54, again.

I saw this one in the mall, but i bought the millenium instead of the 1954 gojira
even though the reissue has more poppy dorsal plates which looks good the original's darker fins are movie accurate
I think he's more lack luster on paint then the older ones is to try and give off the black and white effect honestly!
