@GL Block its obviously assuming the players being compared are fit. And James hasn't been injured all season. Not like he's been on crutches and missed every game. He's still made 18 appearances it's just he got injured before the World Cup and therefore it feels like he's not played any games at all. Either way most people would agree he starts if he's fit.

Pickford has undeniably been unreal for England... but surely Ramsdale deserves a chance. Arguably he's a better goalie who plays for top off the league?
I think he should get a start against some teams in friendlies or some smaller teams in the Euro qualifiers like Malta but you can't drop the keeper who has never let England down since Southgate's appointment.

The biggest problem Southgate has is he doesn't play winners or talent. Trent and Foden have won the most Trophies and are the most talented players in the England team and they never play, Trent is having a bad season and football is so reactionary unfortunately. Trent has won every trophy achievable and broken multiple records and he's still only 24.
Starting Pickford over the other 2 because “what he’s done for England” despite them being in better form, then when it gets to englands player of the year saka its “but rashford is in better form”
Gareth Southgate needs to start focusing on the future because he is not giving the new generation any game time by picking the same players every single time. We should be playing a new generation not the same old usuals playing it safe because in 4 years time you will have an inexperienced team. France main defence is average age is 24! In 4 years that back line will be experienced and still relatively young! In 4 years time all of southgates main defenders that he picks all the time will be in there mid 30s!! Trippier will be 36, Walker 36, Maguire 34, Stones 32, Dier 33 Pickford 33 and Coady 34. All of these players need to be fased out of the squad to introduce a younger generation who literally have no caps because southgate literally picks the same players every single time. Guehi, Trent, White, Tomori, Colwill, James, Rico Lewis, Foden, Gallagher, Smith Rowe, Balogan, Ramsdale, Nketiah, Gibbs White, Saka, Bellingham will all be prime age for England in 4 years they should all be playing major minutes now to be ready by then and not pick players who won't be like Henderson Walker and Maguire 🤦♂️

Why does my t matter if they're doing well? The small chance at marginal gains from the replacement, whilst risking the big chance of unsettling the chemistry of the team. And this is usually only because the players from whichever team that fan supports isn't playing.

Why on Earth would you take apart a working defence just to accommodate slightly more in form players at club level. Stability and experience are the most important things when it comes to defence especially in international football. I'm all for slowly easing players in (e.g. Tomori). But there's people that genuinely want a whole new backline every international tournament like Ramsdale for Pickford, Stones for Walker, Tomori for Maguire all at the same time and then 3 different changes the next international tournament because obviously player's form changed over the last 2 seasons.

Pieface will go on about Tent also being able to play in the midfield and I have not doubt he be a great option there. However, they never play him there and if so, you'd drop a midfielder. Make it make sense. The point of connection being important was brought up, highlighting the quality that Ben White and Saka have produced throughout the season. That alone would at the minimum have Ben White on the bench. Just because it doesn't look like Pickford is making mistakes doesn't mean he's contributing enough to win anything, clearly. He can't kick a ball and keep it on the pitch to save his life. He instils zero calmness in the defenders in front of him. Goalkeeping is about more than high profile errors.

I hate this gk debate. The argument of 'he's never let England down' means that ppl are OK with us being a team of steady Eddies and never actually evolving as a team. Ramsdale is clearly the better all round keeper at this point and hes significantly younger and is on the verge of winning the league. He saves arsenal from certain goals on numerous occasions and has EXCEPTIONAL distribution especially in starting quick counters which should be our MO with rashford and saka on the wings. Why do players need to make errors to be dropped? Players can just be improved upon and therefore replaced. Ramsdale has never even had a chance. Pope has had more of a look in despite having a glaring flaw to his game in his footwork. Give the boy a chance. Same applies for tomori, white and foden (in the 10)

However I would still take Ramsdale because all the best teams, including national teams, play possessive footie. It sort of cements his position if we want to play with any flair or domination

Trent has been awful since the start of 2022. Add 20/21 to that and he's been poor for the majority of the last 3 seasons.
He has 5 assists since January 2022 and numerous horrendous defensive performances, he's also had more crosses and more touches in the final third than every player in the league. He was in TOTS in 21/22 but James, Trippier, Walker, Tomiyasu and even Matt Doherty missed nearly 50% of the season due to injury, that's the other RBs in the top 6 last season (Wan Bissaka excluded).
He's also lost possession more than every player in the top 5 leagues.
Everyone else is to blame for his bad form and lack of assists but on the other wing, Robertson has 17 assists and Tsimikas has 9 since January 2022.
Bobby Charlton has never let England down either
