  • One of the forgotten Tudor Queens was the very first, Elizabeth of York who married King Henry VII. Their marriage united the House of York and the House of Lancaster, and in effect brought an end to the wars of the roses. The first Tudor royal couple would have 7 children together, and they had a very happy marriage. Elizabeth did not involved herself in matters of the state and seemed to have little interest in 15th and 16th century politics. But Elizabeth was a princess in her own right, being the daughter of Edward IV of England, but at the age of 37 inside the walls of the Tower of London, Elizabeth of York tragically passed away. Her death left her husband distraught and devastated, and she was buried inside of Westminster Abbey. But the first Tudor Queen’s remains were disinterred and were disturbed a number of times throughout the century, including in one mans quest to find another King and England. But what is the story of the times that Elizabeth of York’s tomb was broken into?

James VI/I was a descendant of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York through their eldest daughter, Margaret who married James IV of Scotland. He was their great grandson, hence a direct line descendant of the original Tudor monarchs. The ancient Scots/Celtic peoples recognized matriarchal descendent vs patriarchal because one knew who was their mother (as a rule). Maybe James was recognizing that tie.

Literaly thought the same thing 🫣😅, it’s a mystery….no he wanted to prove his connection to the English throne by being put with his great great grand father. His grandmother was sister to Henry VIII

He was their great great grandson. His mother was Mary of Scots, her father was James the V and his mother was Margaret Tudor and his father was James the IV.

Elizabeth was the daughter of a king, the wife of a king. the sister of a king, the niece of a king, the mother of a king and the grandmother of a king.

It's interesting, because if you compare official portraits of Elizabeth, her father KIng Edward IV, and her uncle King Richard III, you can see the strong family resemblance amongst the Plantagenets, especially around the eyes. Also, it looks like she was a brown-eyed natural redhead, rather rare and unusual.

More attention should be given to Henry VII & his amazing political skills, especially from 1485 to 1499. That he timed his marriage to Elizabeth of York only after his coronation, speaks volumes of his political savviness! Truly underrated monarch!

But the English history is so shallow (Compared to Italy, and especially China) we have to hear the same stories of tudors over and over….

@@KellyinMemphisDD214 Don't get me started on medieval Irish history, the natives not the English in Ireland, it's very tribal filled with minor kings and chieftains it's hard to keep track of who married who and who held a grudge against who over something their great great grandfather did.

I would love to go to England to see these kings and queens burial sites. I do sometimes have a lay over for about three to four hours at the airport in England. I figure it isn’t long enough to see anything while I’m there waiting for my flight to take me to Germany. I think next time I go overseas I’m going to try to take a longer layover in England to see a little bit of England.

King James was a direct descendent of Henry and Elizabeth through both his father and his mother, so perhaps that is why he chose to be buried with them.

If the etched year was 1645 then it was probably not James the 1st's wish. Far more likely is that he was moved from his own original spot during the Civil War.

it's always some guys! You don 't see women doing this shit, breaking into graves or digging them up. Gotta tell you, don 't like men much (mostly blame women for their troubles and problems). Just leave the dead alone, this is sickening.
