    Rockfishing and Poke poling videos are always so interesting. Seeing structure and uniqueness in species and spots always gets my view. That and rockfishing is hard so these kinds of videos are much appreciated!

    No better time for a wonderful lesson on poke poling! Today I am presenting my local vet tech with a brand new Rod Buster Fishing Academy 10' bamboo poke pole. I will direct him to this video for a lesson. Hey! Congrats to Mimi Fishfish and her winning the coveted Rod Buster Fishing Academy 2021 West Coast TH-cam Fisherman of the Year! Good show Ed!

    Edward, great video. Having people mic'd is VERY HELPFUL and takes your video to the next level. Monica is very gracious to show us all these tricks. Sounds like she's the local expert. Nice job pulling all this together! :)

    I have been a poke pole fisherman since I was 6 years old with my dad and I just learned something after 41 years at the 8:27 mark!!!
    Thanks for the info on that rig. Gaffing is illegal and who would have thought that that is a gaff.
    It was even better with the women teaching you bro🤙

    • @Hook2Cook
      @Hook2Cook  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha good change of pace having Monica and Veronica as the focus on this episode huh? And yea, that’s why there’s string there. People back in the day would just gaff the creatures in those holes. Octopus specifically.

    Great Tutorial on Poke Poling~ which is my preferred method of fishing. Just a few "rules" might want to keep in mind with Monkey-Faced Eels & Poke poling 1) make sure you have a place to "land" the fish. Say you get a nice 22 inch fish and have no place to land it? 2) Net that fish ASAP even before removing hook- I've had far to many unhook themselves , get back in water and laugh as I curse them.. a lot! I use a mesh bag and so on, Heck leave hook in and re tie as are going to clean it up anyway so no big deal. 3) With all beach stuff watch the waves never turn your back to it. With Squid I tend to cut it like wide strips of grass easier to hook a long piece on than a chunk.. but just me. Should not need more than 2 maybe 3 squid per person nor more than 4 hooks total for a day..unless try to bring in actual rocks like me to often. Have fun after all. Expect to be soaked waist down when done and have a change of clothes in car shoes and socks as well. If do not need great if do and are freezing butt off well now it sucks. Like the Video keep it up~

      I think "foraging for fish" might be the correct term for this.
      It's more collecting than it is fishing because the fish are trapped at low-tide

    I like to use squid or mussels till I find a good spot
    Then I switch to gooseneck barnacles.
    The gooseneck barnacle (cut open to expose the middle) stays on the hook really well.
